it’s honestly funny people in the comments who have never climbed mountains thinking these people don’t know what they are getting into 🤣

So Pemba made it to the summit, then back down again, WITHOUT fixed ropes, then BACK UP to rescue Marco and back up a THIRD time for Wilco (sp?) Absolutely unreal, what a tank. Indestructible man.

Gere's a suggestion.
Anyone intending to undertake this sort of climb signs a binding declaration that, should they die in the process, under NO circumstances should ANY attempt be made, voluntary or otherwise, to have their body retrieved from the point where they died. Rescuers are grandstanding at best, otherwise in need of psychiatric care.

Very, very sad outcome. But it feels like the death of the Pakistani (while trying to bring down Dren's body) could easily have been avoided. Very noble but very strange decision to go up and do that. I think everyone who goes on a trip like this understands the risk they are taking and should accept the possibility of not getting a proper burial (should the worst happen). RIP :(

Everyone who climbs on this mountain knows the extreme dangers. But they go anyway. People die. Get over it. It isn't some kind of tragedy.

I think the lack of oxygen makes people disregard safety. They take such bad decisions that it makes you wonder about their sanity.

These are all examples of entirely "NORMAL ACCIDENTS" (it's a textbook on the subject of accidents). The deadly days on all these mountains have a single common denominator: disorganization. These teams don't train together and have an ad hoc approach to planning and coordination. If the mountaineering industry would adopt CRM and proper administrative training/practices, including checklists, rehersed emergency protocols, predetermined abort criteria, the ability/responsibility of any team member to declare an emergency, and practicing drills and decision making at higher altitudes but not in the death zone, the death and accident rates would plummet.

Should be logical - more people less work load and problems the individual. But - as well, more unknowns. With unknown people, it is difficult to assess how they react and function in exceptional, life and death situations.

I'm not surprised that some of the versions of what happened are conflicting in some parts. You have people who were up there suffering from altitude sickness, snow blindness and a lack of oxygen. Some events that happened one way, actually seemed like they happened in a different way to the people who were involved, and witnessed it, because of those factors.

well 1st of all,, why you would risk yor life to give someone a proper burial is crazy, and carry a dead man down is crazy. A proper burial would be to bury him where he died, say a prayer and be done with it.

For all their professionalism as mountaineers, the constant mentioning of "less oxygen" at those heights is misleading. The oxygen concentration in the atmosphere at 8000 m is the same as at sea level. The difference lies in partial pressure.

So many don’t realize at that high of an altitude every breath you take brings you closer to death you oxygen intake you get from each breath is slowly starving your body of the oxygen you need for your body to live! With that time is not on your side if you do not reduce your altitude you WILL die that’s a fact!

Seeing Rolf and Cecilie chatting and climbing together — oh my heart. That invisible clock above Rolf’s head almost out of time. I hope he is in heaven smiling down on his wife and the happiness she has managed to create. Ah the whole things is just so sad. And still, knowing what the mountain takes, I want to climb it.
