Nicholas the First, maybe the wisest & best emperor ever. Standing up to the Napoleonic subversion of his own, and saving Holy Russia. And right after saving the Austrian Throne agains the same masonic rabble too, only to be betrayed by the Austrian emperor a few years later when the French & English tried him attacking Crimea.

I haven’t seen this film but that is definitely the most realistic artillery depiction of the period I have ever seen. Props to the director/effects ppl.

I know this is just a movie, but Russians must be the most servile people to ever live. The tsar was overthrown and then a communist dictatorship was installed lol.

"They won't dare to fire at us!"

I mean... You already capped their horsemen at the start of this rally, so in this situation it's one of those "an eye for an eye" concepts.

Russians are cowards. On one side, there are the decambrists who do nothing except fleeing. They didn't even try to kill Nicolas. On the other side, they shoot at their brothers in arms instead of arresting Nicolas or shoot him.

An accuracy recreation how the field artillery goes before the 1850's. And in this case the grapeshoot bullets. Sadly, the Decemberists falled apart (low noblity, petty and some high officers, and the incipient middle class)

I think grapeshot is only for infantry and roundshots are for large battles and cannisters are for smaller size armies

A pet peeve of mine in historical movies (and in actual textbooks!) is the confusion over the term "grapeshot". (Thanks mostly to Napoleon and his famously (mis)translated "a whiff of grapeshot".)
"Grapeshot" is a naval term, and it doesn't refer to the shotgun blast of small projectiles we see here. Grapeshot consisted of smaller projectiles fired in a single shot, but the individual projectiles were still substantial. It was used at close range between ships, but it was still designed to damage the ship more than wreak havoc among the crew.
Field artillery fired "canister". This could be a leather canister filled with musket balls, or one made of tin and packed with horseshoe nails. When fired, the round exploded at the muzzle of the gun and spread out to form the familiar "cloud of death." It was used at close range by guns all the way through the American Civil War against assaulting infantry. Even today the same principle is used in a wide variety of nasty anti-personnel devices.

In the interregnum of December 14 [O. S. December 26], 1825, a group of officers raised an uprising against the autocracy. They wanted to establish a republic in Russia, or a constitutional monarchy and destroy serfdom (almost eighty percent of the inhabitants of the Russian Empire were almost in the position of slaves) The uprising was suppressed, the leaders were hanged, other officers were either sent to hard labor or to the Caucasian war as privates. Soldiers who participated in the uprising were beaten to death with shpitsruten (a standard metal ramrod for muzzle-loading firearms.)
