Good review. I’m still torn between EV and ICE but videos like this make me sway towards an electric vehicle.

It’s hilarious that whenever you look at a non Tesla and the dealer sees you Tesla outside they say they are a “software company” and don’t know how to make cars! Unfortunately for the legacy OEMs Tesla DO know how to make cars! Shame Musk is a “challenging” individual to like?! You’ll soon hit 50,000 and you’ll deserve it!

I’ve had mine for just over 2 years. Love it. Been all over the country and no problems.
Called Tesla out twice for wheel rotation, both times not required.
2 years and no servicing, no road tax.. cheap motoring.
Agree about leasing, especially if you run a business. It’s a no brainier!

Everything confuses the wipers, I have covered 100k in my m3, wipers are crap, headlights are less crap than they used to be. Handling is questionable, I also agree that charging is now too quick, it’s a nice problem to have.

It would be a concern to me that there is only 1 insurance company that will insure you in your situation? Really one? They can set their own price or simply 1 becomes zero then what do you do!

I've had my Model 3 RWD since March 2022, and I have had no issues. with the car. I agree with you on the turning circle, and I wish the exterior mirrors were a bit bigger. As far as the wipers go, I always use voice command. My range always shows 258 miles summer and winter. Would I get another one? Possibly, I would like to check out other makes before I make that decision.

I have to turn the wipers off too. I just push the screen wash button on the stalk and then scroll down to off on the left dial of the steering wheel, no need to touch the screen.

I’ve had a model 3 for 3 years in December on a company lease. The cars great, the tech is fantastic. One year in I thought I would never buy another brand, 3 years later I’m a little bored of it, the model Y new shape isn’t until next year.

It feels like Tesla stagnated after Elon shifted his focus more to X.

I think they’ve allowed the competition to catch up quite a bit over the last 3 years.

I now find myself with a Kia EV9 on order. The tech isn’t too far off, they actually have some wins over Tesla and the design of the car is better.

The range in miles you talk about when you toggle the battery icon between % and miles doesn’t vary with conditions or driving efficiency. It is a simple calculation of Teslas static presumed efficiency multiplied by what the car believes is the available capacity of the battery in kWh. So when it reduces it is an Indication of the degradation of the battery. The battery management can get a bit out of sync depending on your charging patterns and this is why it is recommended to charge the LFP models to 100% at least once a week to help keep that calibration accurate.

Long time listener, first time caller. Serious question Jim…does Musk being an absolute and total see you next Tuesday somewhat taint your view on this vehicle…? Pretty damn toxic, fuels hate on X…does supporting him via car ownership concern you or do you just look at it as - it’s a good car that’s right for me?

Lots of speculation about pay-per-mile (for EVs maybe for all cars), since the lack of fuel duty revenue is sending the treasury into a rage. Factor in pay-per-mile, road tax on EVs next year (inc luxury car tax on many) and insurance, do you think there will still be any financial gain over ICE cars?

The 283 miles range is using the WLTP standard and the 260 mile range is using the EPA standard as used in the USA. Yes you have lost 3 miles due to battery degredation.

I have the same car. Agree on the space, it’s amazing., as is the efficiency, the tech and the value for money. Worst thing about it for me is the ride. I find it way too stiff round town or B roads. It’s been back to the dealer 3 times for boot rattles! Its not too bad when it’s warm but when it’s cold it bangs and rattles like mad. Would I have another? Maybe but only if the comfort was sorted out massively. My wife hates it.

Interesting Video. Calculations on TCO would be interesting as this would be the real world cost. I am guessing the model Y circa £45k. Kia Sportage (or Similar) circa £30k. Insurance , fuel costs (electricity), tyres, servicing, residual value and so on. Maybe over 3 years, possibly 4.

You are the only reviewer who mentioned about the auto wipers, I cannot agree more! I rented an M3 for a week in Toronto, straight out of the airport, I immediately struggled with the air vents as the car starts to mist and i almost crashed trying to find the blower setting while already on a motorway! Also immediately struggled with its navigation because it didn't have signal and the car doesn't do CarPlay/AndroidAuto! I wonder what network is Tesla UK with? I recently went to Cornwall and Vodafone is hopeless where as EE is fine. Me and wife are always on different network for back up, but Tesla doesn't do phone connections! I also wonder what data roaming will it do while in Europe?

lastly I think it will help your car to recalibrate battery if you drain it low and recharge to 100%. LFP battery has a very flat voltage curve below 80%, unlike NMC. So the car needs to count the amount of current charged to 100% to recalibrate range estimates.

Had mine almsot 3 months. Agree on wipers, still think some key controls should have buttons. Or at least ability to move screen.

Although its not that quick off the line, instant torque helps. Mkd range its mkre than enough. Handling is berter than you would anticipate, given weight and shape. Feels safe and predictable to drive. Interesting to see what cbanges they make in the new model Y.
