I suffered a TBI when I fell down the steps and hit my head on multiple steps. Now I suffer from disequilibrium, lost words and mild aphasia. People treat me like I'm retarded, personally I think it's offensive. I am highly educated and haven't lost my ability to think. Each of us might have different symptoms but we understand our struggles. To all of my fellow TBIers, I hear you and I support you.

I fell from a 250-360ft cliff. I hit every branch and rock on the way down. I didn’t break any bones other than a Le Fort fracture! (Shocking I know!)
I am not quite sure if I had a “mild” TBI or if they just got it to the point of mild, but I hit my head really hard that they even said my face dislocated so I would assume I can only have at least a moderate. My head always hurts and I always have symptoms of a TBI memory/emotional wise and I can never think clearly.

—So can doctors make your TBI better from a moderate/severe to a mild TBI if you got the type of care you needed in a short period of time?

My friend is in a coma right now battling for his life. He suffered severe brain damage. He needed 120 blood transfusions. Had 2 strokes. His liver was split in half. (Caused by motorbike crash into lamppost) It’s been a week now. They say he’s getting better but im just worried about what happens next after surgery. The worst part about this accident is the police took his helmet off after the crash!!!! Only a medical person can do that. They’ve probably caused more damage. Fuck the pigs man.

You dont always have to be unconscious to have a brain injury, for me, it went the other way round, hyper amplified pain or an over signal problem nero issues.

I know a woman with a TBI very well.
She was bullied, with a podcast mocking her loss of memory, stuttering, unprovoked insults about “ institutionalizing. Also, her anger at the intentional criminal violence which caused the TBI,.,, The people doing the bullying are part of an agency where professionalism is expected.
Again, several mocking podcast were made and the extreme attacks were utterly unprovoked by persons with no personal relationship to the crime survivor with resulting TBI.

How do we find out that we have tbi, I’ve had scans MRI done but nothing shows up. I’ve had multiple head injuries from a young age been knocked unconscious over 10 times and concussed over 20 times, led to drug use after leaving the military then catching cerebral malaria whilst working in Africa. I’m in constant agony, confusion, depression and fear. Can’t sleep or make new memories feel like my life never happened. I’m in really bad shape the doctors say it’s depression and personality disorder and won’t entertain the head injurys I need serious help

After many knockouts due to snowboarding and getting into fights, i had issues for a few years in my mid 20s, but learned to live with it.
Last summer i was in a car accident where i wasnt wearing my seatbelt, my head broke the windshield and possibly so vertebrae in my neck. This changed the way i think especially under stress, and ruined my balance. Lost motivation and my job, eight months or so later my drive came back but still dont react to stress in the same cool manner i used to. My hand eye coordination is also kinda wacked now and i suffer from poor impulse control and seemed to have developed a slight alice in wonderland syndrome when i get tired.

The worst part is knowing your not the same or as quick as you once were, that and the stuttering when trying to talk when your excited gets extremely frustrating getting caught on a word you know and know how to say your body just wont comply

Back in 2012 I attempted to self delete by taking all my psychiatric meds at once. I had just renewed the scripts and I was on 5 different medications.

I was sort of successful. I was dead for awhile and in a coma for almost a month with severe brain swelling, liver failure, etc. They had to drill a hole in my skull to alleviate the pressure but for the first two weeks of me being in this coma they were telling my family there was no brain activity and basically preparing them to lose me regardless of if I woke up or not.

They told them I probably wouldn't wake up and if I did I would be a vegetable and severely brain damaged.

Needless to say I survived, and did so without falling anywhere within the realm of what the doctors had originally projected for me.

I basically returned to normal except for seizures. I was having them for the better part of two years. They completely stopped almost suddenly and I was told that sometimes that happens? Sometimes your brain just repaired whatever it was in there broken? I dunno. It was just a possible explanation given to me in passing. The last seizure I had was late 2014.

It was after this I started to loss short term memory. Concentration was gone and it felt hard to focus on things I had formerly had no issues doing, like reading or drawing.

On the other end my family had started to notice I was more emotional and weepy. My own sisters were first to notice this when I started to cry around them and they stared in stunned silence and one broke the silence only to say "I've never seen (my name) cry before..." Because they legitimately hadn't. It was such a drastic change and their reaction to it made me think maybe I was having some sort of mental breakdown.

Years later these problems have pretty much become part of who I am. My husband jokes I am "chaotic stupid" because he will randomly find I put stuff where it doesn't belong, like ice cream in the pantry, or forget something he literally just told me. He says it in a joking and playful manner as a nerdy reference to DnD, not as an insult. He knows why I am like this.

I didn't know that certain brain injuries could pop up down the line even if you didn't seem too badly affected by them at first.

This alone took me 30+ mins to write out because it's like trying to pluck the words from a fog in my head. Otherwise I appear perfectly normal...get me talking for awhile and you'll see I'll be mid sentence in conversation and suddenly forget what I was saying or what we were even talking about. It's like "bloop" someone flicked it right out my head. When I try to recall memories of what the person I was in mid conversation was talking about to remind myself what I forgot I see a foggy imagine of them talking on mute in my head. I have a lot of in person social anxiety because of this. It's a little embarrassing and to the casual observer I am just a ditzy woman.

But it's definitely more than that.

Sidenote: I didn't want to label it a TBI because by the definition given in the video it's blunt force trauma that causes it. Mine was brought on by brain swelling due to a failed self deletion attempt so I wasn't sure if I could technically class myself that way. I believe I can, but not looking to insult anyone who took a truck or sidewalk to the head.

I am still suffering long-term affects from a traumatic brain injury.

I just don't understand why the memory issues and change in personality happened after the seizures suddenly stopped.

2 years ago I accidentally bumped myself into the metal when closing the door. I had such a huge goose egg it left a literally scar I now have an indent and basically it kinda looks like a bump shaped in my head. Ever since then I’ve become easily angered and irritated. I have memory issues and forget things half the time. I have compelled speech where I don’t make sense half the time. I get severe migraines. I’m only 15. :(

So, my son who is in his late 30’s, says he was recently diagnosed with TBI. He said he may have been injured when he was a child. Something I never heard about from his mother, because we were divorced and he was kept from me. He doesn’t show any signs of TBI. He said he will get meds to help him with his short term memory loss because of this diagnosis. No signs of difficulty have been noticed. He had been taking meds for adult ADHD which he also said is why he has short term memory problems. I don’t know what to think because it sounds like excuses to use when he doesn’t want to do anything. Someone help me understand how this TBI can suddenly appear after 20-25 years. (He said he suspects his older brother mistreated him and gave him skull fractures)

Less than 90 days after I got out of the Navy I was hit by a drunk driver. I hit my head on the steering wheel and fractured my skull with a 6" scratch on my brain. That was back in 93'. Over the past 5 years, my head has felt top heavy, kind of dizzy, I'm having short instances of short term memory and loss of words. I'm wanting to go to the doctor about it but I'm kinda scared that it might be something worse.

What kind of bothers man is I know how are used to be and now I am different and I isolate myself and new people that I made think I am probably standoffish and a depressed loner. I just lost interest in everything and I have to really push myself to do things outside of work I’m not a total died but I definitely notice everything and sometimes I just don’t feel like explaining what I’ve gone through. It was a very life-changing day in my life. I see so many of my peers achieving so much more and passing me by and I just wonder will I ever get to where they are. The lack of motivation is probably the worst for me after first brain injury. I used to have friends comment how ambitious I was and that’s no longer….

My TBI was back in 2004 when I was 24 and I was jumped by three 200+ pound man. They kicked and stomped on my head so many times my own mother could not recognize MAN when she came to the hospital. I was in a coma for a little under a month and then I spent another 68 days in the hospital. I had 15 staples in the back of my head, a broken jaw that was wired shut, a broken nose, and I wanted to see pictures and the district attorney showed me and I cried. I couldn’t even recognize her self. My head was so swollen and my face so be it up. But you look at me today and even one year after the incident and you could not tell. I wanna thank prohealth care Waukesha Wisconsin for taking such great care of me during those four months. There are some really good people out there and at the opposite end of the spectrum there are some really bad people out there.

Does anyone remember that ex police officer Jude? He was jumped by some guys at a party. Well if you do know of this than I suspect that you saw his photos after he was beard. My face looked 10 times worse. My incident happened at a house party so there was witnesses and all three of these men definitely spent some time in prison and I got a little bit of money out of it but not much at all just enough to pay my hospital bills and my lost wages while I was in the hospital. So if that night never happened that I would be in the same financial situation. Some pain and suffering would be nice but I’m just happy that hopefully they all learned a lesson or you can’t lay your hands on somebody that you never even met in your life
