I think this video is pretty misleading. make a basic box but you need a table saw and lots of technique. I'm sure there is a better easy way to make a box than this.
ОтветитьAm I blind or does the description lack the plans he had mentioned?
ОтветитьSorry. do we make our own measurements? You seem to indicate measurements were somewhere on the page, but I have yet to find them. I'm a newbie, so sorry if I got this wrong. Thanks for the video. I'm just starting and have limited tools. Wanted to start something and see if I would continue, before I spent hard earned on more equipment. Thanks again.
ОтветитьHi Steve. I looked all over for the instructions for the basic box but can't find the plans anywhere in your description. How can I get them?
Ответитьnice
ОтветитьThank you for sharing. I am new to woodworking and will definitely be making one (if not more) of these boxes.🙂
ОтветитьBecause everyone has a table saw.
ОтветитьGood video.
ОтветитьHelp! I can't stop making small wooden boxes.
ОтветитьMaybe it's just me but it seems like a race to get things done in a shop using tools such as a table saw is asking for trouble. Losing concentration for just one instant could be catastrophic.
ОтветитьSo cutting Rabbit joints - What If I don't have a router table neither a table saw? :)
ОтветитьWondering why for a basic not just put two thin pieces of wood to make the lid hold instead of the big piece?
ОтветитьWhat did you call me?
Ответитьnice
ОтветитьThis mere mortal does not have a table saw.
ОтветитьThanks a bunch for a great video - especially liked the rabbet technique...this answers a lot of nuanced questions I had (e.g. how tight to go with the clamps).
ОтветитьAny beginning woodworker I've met doesn't have a table saw; I know I don't!
ОтветитьThank you for all your videos! I made my first box today!
ОтветитьI did my first box with your instructions. Thank you very much. God bless!
ОтветитьThe link for the plans doesn't work. :(
ОтветитьI only have hand tools
ОтветитьWhy do you rip the sides at the beginning??
ОтветитьSo let me get this straight: I`m starting in woodworking, my first project is a simple wood box. I buy my lumber, and take it too my $5000.00 wood shop (that I don`t have), and start cutting it up with tools I don`t know how to use. Especially if I am going to do a basic Rabbit Cut (whatever that is), instead of Doo-Doo Cut, and then use thirty clamps of different sized and functions to press everything together. Yep. Simple. Excellent for novice.
Ответитьthe link for the plans doesnt work...
Ответитьdo you still have the free plans available?
Ответитьokay bro ffs we don't all have a full toolshed - just wanna make a box with some wood. jesus.
ОтветитьHello Steve! Thanks for the amazing video as usual. I have a question regarding the table saw for beginners, since I'm not from the US and there's no Ridgid distributor in my country. Do you think a Dewalt DWE7485 will be enough for "fairly" precise woodworking? I hope to start making some furniture in the future once I'm more experienced with the tools and I'm wondering if that model is good enough for doing precise and repeatable cuts to build cabinets etc.
ОтветитьThe bow in the top could be solved by flipping one side over. The variance in Blake angle will be cancelled out. No bow
Ответитьdo all beginners start with owning table saw or its just me to start from tools like jigsaw?
ОтветитьUse a biscuit
ОтветитьIt's great you did this with basic tools. Most tutorials out there are using 7 high end machines in a 20K workshop for the same purpose.
ОтветитьTablesaws are in excess of $3500 , and they require a workshop , this isnt really for me
ОтветитьOmg this so typical American... zero imagination... can you imagine making a small box and you need to buy all the tools
ОтветитьHey just came back to say thanks, I follow your metric template and manged to finished my first hobby project.
I also gifted it to my mum, she seemed impressed!!
Kind regards
Is this achievable with basic hand tools?
ОтветитьPlease take a moment at the start of your "basic woodworking" videos to go over some safety tips that might help your audience keep all their fingers. Such as the gripper your using.
It would not surprise me if this video inspired some to go out to their garage and fire up the table saw that has been rusting for 10 years to try to make their own box.
My riving knife is higher than yours and stops me getting a full pass on the rabets (rebates). Any tips please ? (I've resorted to my tenon saw to finish the cut but for the base I can only get about 2 inches along. Thanks in advance.
ОтветитьThis man is obviously very knowledgeable.
Ответитьa little box trick some may like: make your box, glue and screw all the joints, and glue on the lid too. set the table saw if you have one for, say, 1 1/2". this is a place your screws do not come to from the top or get put in from the side. saw the 4 sides. now you have a box with a perfectly fitting inset lid. even a hand saw can make one, and you could use nails, but i like sheetrock screws.
ОтветитьWhy did you have to use two pieces of wood for the box lid?
ОтветитьAll the people complaining about expensive tools apparently don't know you can get them used. I bought a complete in working order craftsman 113.298720 contractor table saw for $100. All it really needed was cleaning the table top rust and a new blade.
ОтветитьCool video, what kind of stain do you like to put on the wood?
ОтветитьBasic instructions and basic box for an old guy with very basic skills. Valuable for me. Thank you!
ОтветитьI just went through and love the “Equip your woodworking shop for less than $1000” document referred to in the comments.
Are there any advantages of Dado Blades versus a router table combo other than lower initial cost and less storage space? I have never used either Dado Blades or a router table.
I am also curious how often people still use their Dado blades once they own both?
For background, I am a woodworking newbie. I have a table saw but not a router.
Never measure, nibble alot
ОтветитьLove it ❤
ОтветитьWhat is the yellow thing called you guide your wood with when you're sawing? I neeeeed to get one.
ОтветитьHi Steve. I really appreciate that you provided the plans in metric, too, but I did notice a small error on page 2. You show the board size to be 19mm" thick. Just thought you might want to know.
