[HD] Norfolk Southern H-Line action at Shenandoah Jct, Feat. SOO and Ferromex: 10/24/14

With the FastFlyingVirginian once again, truly railfanning for the first time since May, when we were in the same exact spot. Shenandoah Jct. surely offers the array of NS and CSX action in one location, but we were there for the NS this time.

On our way northward bound to a location disclosed in the next installment, we got word that quite the consist of Soo Line, Canadian Pacific, Norfolk Southern, and Ferromex units all on a southbound 37Q, which was in Hagerstown when we got to Shenandoah Jct.

We took the opportunity to move solely on the NS line right before the big rush hit. We got to a crossing not far south from the flyover and saw 12R in the siding. 211 comes racing south to get an approach at the north end of the switch, this was because northbound 38Q was also trying to fit itself in the siding along with 12R. These 2 trains were able to make their calculations right and both fit in the single-block siding with just about 200 feet of track to spare.

Behind 212 was the 37Q with arguably the lashup of the year with units from 4 railroads spanning all 3 North American countries. Behind him was 228, after those three 12R and 38Q were able to proceed north.
