Which sata ports does the nvme disable? I am running nvme and ssd for storage and I can get the mobo to recognize the ssd

I ended up getting the Max version of this board with a Ryzen 3600x and a Nvidia RTX 2060 Super. I'm still gathering the parts and was really thinking about running Ubuntu. I planned on using this for gaming, but I'm not quite sure that Linux gaming is where I want it to be. Not to mention it seems much harder to actually do overclocking with my CPU and GPU. At least without pain. I just wish it was much easier than what I've been reading. Also, it it seems that hardly any companies support Linux when it comes to software/drivers such as this motherboard or even controlling RGB fans in the case. I was going to get a Corsair RGB case only to find out there is no way to control the RGB fans and their software for controlling the RGB is for Windows only. It's very disappointing to say the least the lack of support for Linux. Would love to see you touch on how overclocking is done and how it translates to benchmarks and games compared to Windows.

Whoa! Okay so I just helped a friend get setup on this board with a new Ryzen 3600 and unfortunately, we didn't have a compatible CPU to start with.

A word of caution, the onboard HDMI port will not output video! Use a graphics card when trying to get the system to POST!

We struggled with this for far too long trying to get things working before filling the board!

Do I have to change anything in the BIOS so that I can use two GPUs? I also want to do GPU path-trough, but if I install a second GPU my Manjaro won't boot anymore.

Great review, i`m curious if it is possible to do a similar review to the new Max version? or there aren't enough differences to make a video about?

It should be noted that the Ryzen 3000s are having RAM stability issues currently on the B450 Tomahawk. I did a new build for my mother recently, but the corsair ram can't currently run at it's rated 3200mhz and the XMP profiles are unstable.
The ram ran fine at 3200 on the old i3 Z170 build.
It runs fine as long as the Ram is run at the default 2133mhz with CL of 15. It's only a Ryzen 3 3200G build so maybe the lack of memory bandwidth isn't a big problem.
Also worth noting, is that the BIOS is now stripped down to make room on the ROM for all the new CPUs. So no more beautiful layed out Click BIOS 5 anymore.

Thanks for the great review. I'm leaning away from the asus b450 pro gaming board, mainly because there are hardly any reviews on it. Any reasons you have why i should switch to the MSI board and not the Asus would be very appreciative.

So which processor and memory combo would you go with for gaming?. I just got the MB but haven't ordered anything else yet. I'm thinking of a 6core because I don't think my games are using more than 4.

I'm getting a b450 tomahawk paired with an r5 2600 and 16gb 3200mhz cl16 to go along side with my 2060 I got a few months ago. It should be a big leap from my old i5 3550

It is about a year later now, I'm using this board with updated bios paired with a ryzen 3700x, kingston hyperx 3200mhz memo, 3.5g/s nvme, Raden Rx 5700 and it handles it all on windows and linux flawlessly.

I'm conflicted. I'm building my first PC, & I don't know if I should get this board or go with the Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro WiFi. One thing I like about the Gigabyte is the built in WiFi, which would be useful considering my PC is going to be upstairs & I'll have to run an ethernet cable to it. Besides that I feel like they have a lot of the same stats. Which one would you go with??

Tomahawk is great series line up boards for any chipset, Have Z390 for Intek 9tgh gen it got mroe features for less price. Getting B450 Tomahawk for 3rg Gen 3600x setup today

heard that i can use a usb on b450 tomahawk (less than 16bg) to install the newest bios that support the ryzen third gen (my 3600)
my question is would this build make sense?
am i off with what parts to buy ? or should i be able to make it work?

This is the motherboard I'm going to get for ryzen 3600x or 3700x especially with the bios upgrade with no cpu I seen lots of videos and information today and this motherboard runs ryzen 3000 with no problems.

Hello @Level1Techs, with the flash bios button i can update the bios without a cpu installed on it? my question is, i want to purchase a motherboard to put a 3 gen ryzen and i was thinkg about this one,can i buy it now and then update the bios before installing the ryzen 3 generation?

I ran into an issue when attempting to "overclock" the RAM to 3200 (any amount of overclocking, really) from auto settings. The ram is G.Skill Trident Z 2x8gb DDR4 3600 with 18-22-22-42 timing. This build has a Ryzen 2700 with a Cooler Master ML240L. When overclocking the ram the pump immediately revved up, making the typical rare bubbling of the AIO increase to the likes of boiling water in less than 15 seconds.

Disabled that noise and turning to more experienced tech before proceeding. Is it possible (or even worth it) to try to get these memory modules running closer to rated speeds with the b450 board?

Thanks for the Ryzen 5 2400G and B450 videos. Very plainly spoken and solid advice. You mentioned here that using the primary NVME that we lose some sata ports. If I use an M.2 NVME as the primary drive hosting the OS, will I still be able to have at least one SSD as a main documents drive? sorry if this is a newbie question but the MSI data sheet doesn't make it so clear, thanks.
