Most normal people keep all their songs in album subfolders so this is very tedious.

Apple takes pleasure in making shit way more complicated than it has to be. Itunes is a mess, just support the God damn FLAC format. No body gives a shit about ALAC.

Faaoft's great "Video Converter" and "Audio Converter" are probably two of the best commercial choices though. I've been using them for a few years now.
