They really need to put the 3 cylinder gr Yaris engine in this.
ОтветитьI don’t know if I’ve ever seen a car review with so much footage on only three wheels 😂
ОтветитьMazda with their MX5 have known this for years…sometimes less is more 👍🏻
ОтветитьPorsche owners are loosing it with this statement
ОтветитьTotally agree. I have more fun in my 86 than I did in my F type or the 911 I had before it. Running costs are low so I don’t care about tire costs and fuel. Don’t think I have gone anywhere without a sideways giggle, even at 25mph.
ОтветитьExactly the kind of car we want. Will last a lot longer than any EV too unless you bend it. Hopefully we'll see a u-turn on the current ridiculous legislation soon
ОтветитьHi Chris, I remember you epic comparison between the GT86, the Cayman and the 350z. The new car still stands it’s ground, it seems. It’s great to see them around, despite the sweeping legislation. I had a BRZ for a decade, before eventually selling it.
ОтветитьChris Harris driving the original gt86 was one of the reasons I got an 2013 FR-S used. It was one of my favorite cars.
ОтветитьEverybody praise it, no one is buying it.
ОтветитьI bought one and it's like learning how to drive all over again, just so much fun and so involving.
ОтветитьI've always been curious as to why, given the success and positive reviews on these cars, Toyota and/or Subaru have taken the platform and put a more practical body on it. A small 4 door sedan or a 3/5 door hatch. I reckon there would be a huge market for it. Yes it would steal some coupe sales but how many people would love to buy one of these but don't because its just too impractical. A modern day MK 2 Escort or a Datsun 1600 (aussies will understand), or Hot Hatch with RWD. I honestly believe these would sell.
ОтветитьThis is a baby Manual F-Type
ОтветитьDear Mr. Chris (so called) Harris… well done sir
ОтветитьGR86 owner here, 20k miles in. I can very honestly say that, out of every car I've owned (all RWD coupes), the GR86 beats the life out of the rest. I've never had this much consistent fun with a car, nor had an affordable car feel so special to drive. This review is spot on. It doesn't have a flashy interior, it doesn't have break-neck acceleration, but what it does have is the fundamentals down to a T. So happy to hear the automotive community seems to agree. Can't wait for the next generation with a true Toyota engine, even if it does mean we'll have to have it turbocharged. The original designer of the GT86 said something along the lines of his design being a love-letter to older sports coupes, and you can definitely feel that in this one too. Go team GR!
ОтветитьWhen more manufacturers built these kind of cars, we didn't buy them. But the cars with MORE power, MORE tech, MORE Torque, MORE Grip, MORE mass, MORE excess do sell.
ОтветитьIt needs the engine and running gear from the GR Yaris. Modern day Celica Gt4 anyone?
Ответитьit still baffles me how the biggest car manufacturer, a huge burocratic and conservative japanese company which is knows for boring but reliable cars, makes the most fun to drive affordable cars atm ...
ОтветитьMosca
ОтветитьLove this review of the GR86. Chris saying all this good stuff probably made sales rise which Toyota deserves them for coming out like this.
ОтветитьWhy don't other manufacturers build this car?
There isn't any money in it for them.
This is a gift.
Here’s a comment to bring up oil starvation. Because im a parrot who squawks negativity and likes to ruin peoples fun. I personally can never touch one of these cars because I am a low life but yeah oil starvation don’t buy it!!!! Im sad please help!!!
ОтветитьIt's why I love an OG Mx5 mk2.5, because, unlike an M3 or something more significant, you can have fun between 20-60 mph instead of only once you get above 90...
Ответить...aaand sold out in the EU... Because the production volume of this model is too small to accomodate the required "nanny" systems the suits want on all cars :(
ОтветитьBut you cant take it on track as it will shit itself....
ОтветитьHaving the rear seats folded down will definitely increase interior noise.
Ответитьsupra is bmw and this is subaru so quit calling them toyotas. These are not built by toyota and is why they are shit cras. Shame on toyota for putting their name, known for reliable cars, on these hunks of junk. I love toyota I hate these imposters
ОтветитьI knew it
ОтветитьChris, I insist you give the MX-5 ND a go if you haven't, I know your stance, but worth questioning again
ОтветитьThe GT86 was good. The GR86 is better. But an IS300 is better than all of them.
ОтветитьChris is just great or the best to bring out what the car is about in words. Especially such jdm models made with a purposeful intention, sports car.
Ответитьnow the nd miata chris, please and thank you
ОтветитьBrilliant reviewer
Ответитьmine just arrived a week ago.... i now have 1500kms to break it in before i am allowed above 4k RPMs! Great review.
ОтветитьI absolutely love every moment that i share with this amazing machine. Love love love this car.
Ответитьrx8 vs gr86. rx8 wins
ОтветитьMan's physical and mental ability hasn't moved on at the same rate that horsepower increases have. Manufactures give you gazillion hp then make it manageable by putting in driver aids, 4WD etc. A car like this in reality is all we need and can cope with without having help.
ОтветитьNow they need a gt3 version of this 86.
ОтветитьI purchased a Series One Toyota 86 GTS in 2013, tipped in after watching CH's cheesy grinned review. More than 10 years on and I still have it and still love it. I also have a 200 series Land Cruiser which CH also adores to go bush with. Don't get me wrong, I'm actually not a CH fanboy, more another "difficult bastard", but thank you CH for real reviews with proper, real world feedback. I may just go to the showroom re the GR. Best all. A man from Oz.
ОтветитьGet Chris to do videos on some of the cars that you talk about in the podcast - e39 M5, RS4 B7, etc. would love to see Chris revisit these more affordable and nostalgic motors, with a nice link back to the podcast too.
ОтветитьIt basically been an arms race for the last 40 years - more HP, more top speed, more skin-melting acceleration. It's all actually very boring and programmes like Top Gear have egged that race on. Of course, that's progress.... I guess, but then we've lost the very essence of "sportiness". I remember how much fun I used to have throwing my Mini Clubman around the country lanes... didn't need some wallet-emptying monster to get the heart pumping.
ОтветитьThis car is old News now.
ОтветитьI used to think these were the bomb until I grew up
ОтветитьGrowing up in New York in 80s and 90s there were so many cool little sports cars around, all relatively affordable. 240sx, Z, Integra, MR2, CRX, etc. Glad to see Toyota is putting something out there with a similar recipe. Also... Chris can you please review every single car on collecting cars because if it's not you, I turn it off immediately even if it's a car that I'm really excited about. 😜
ОтветитьSo many over powered, overly c9plicated, heavy cars out there there. None are fun. All you have is bragging rights.
ОтветитьGreat review, but realistically how many people are going to be sliding around corners under power. Sadly, the vast majority of purchase decisions are made on looks and image, not on track ability.
Having said that, I've nearly always had rwd manuals.
Interesting to hear Chris contrast the H4 sensation of the Toyota with the H6 sensation of a Porsche.
ОтветитьGreat video
ОтветитьIn before the oil starved engine dies
ОтветитьWould love to get some other and older cars woth aome tastful mods. E92 with quaife or even e46
Ответить
