How does a Steam game get the OVERWHELMINGLY NEGATIVE rating?

BEFORE YOU LEAVE THAT COMMENT, this video was finished the day Overwatch 2 hit Steam. It is NOT an Overwatch defense video.

Also, to add a correction: For a game to be received Overwhelmingly Positively, it needs to have at least 500 reviews in total, 95% of which must be positive. Overwhelmingly Negative requires 500 reviews with at least 81% negative. Valve doesn't actually publish these numbers anywhere, so they had to be sleuthed out by the community.

And, yes, Overwatch 2 is officially Steam's lowest rated by an EXTREMELY wide margin. This video has been in the works for over a month, and pre-production started back in like, June. We finished editing it on August 11th, which, coincidentally, was the same day Overwatch 2 hit Steam, so it really couldn't have been worse timing. On the one hand, it's a topic I could have covered... but on the other hand, I've never played a single second of Overwatch 1 or 2, and Blizzard fans scare me, so it's probably for the better I stay away from it.

I don't even play the game, and it still manages to let me down...

Battle Operation 2 sucks because everything handles like ass. Mobile Suits are way too slow and clunky compared to how fast they move in both the show and in other gundam games even.

Negative reviews tend to circle around sentiment around a game as you found.
Overwatch 2 is the most downvoted game on Steam. That is not the worst game on Steam.
It's downvoted because community trust was broken, which is a valid reason to downvote, but it just goes to show that the ratings aren't necessarily tied to game quality.
OW2 has problems, but none that make it worse than the shovelware P**n games all over Steam.
It's more that the people who make OW p**n work harder than the design team for OW2.

the range on "mixed" rating is so huge, that's a 29% gap.
I can't see why a game rated at 40% positive should get the same rating as one at 69% positive.
That's a huge difference.
Honestly there needs to be a sub category for when you hit 60% - 69%

Seeing that gundam game makes me appreciate armored core 6 even more

It's just a pretty bad system to judge a game just by good or bad but I am not sure a 1-10 scale would give a more realistic grade

500 hours into GBO2 right now, it's actually a decent, strategically slow game. The wait times aren't as bad as they were at the release of this video aynmore. Though, you'll need to play according to timezones.

Bad reviews typically stem from disappointment. People have to passionate and hopeful about something to feel motivated enough for a review

The saying "in order for a game to be really bad requires it to have been good" fits this scenario perfectly. If it's a game that has something going for it, the dissatisfaction is even more

spacebase df9 got the rating it did, because the developers abandoned a half baked game, declared it finished, and ran for the hills.

The real BAD exploit is to make a shitty asset flip, and only sell of tor 63,50 dollarbucks, so no one will be able to rate this negatively, except for your 10 bot accounts, quickly grading any crap as an overpriced and overrated game.
That does not want to sell this game directly on steam, because that earns proper-shit-reviews for your shovel-ware asset flips too quickly, but to steam-key-resellers, that heavily rely on gambling, and on not having ANY quality-control, besides easily maipulated value+review-scores.

Steam is not flooded with overrated asset flips, sold for over 60 dollarbucks per asset-flip.

this upper pricing limit (for non bundles) exists because of steam filter options by price, for the purpose of hiding its existence as much as possible, without sounding way too ridiculous at first glance.

The games that get the worst rating are always the one's that glimpse greatness. Everyone KNOWS the devs are capable of making the pile of sludge into something FANTASTIC, because they have experienced at least some of it. But they either don't listen, or don't care enough to listen. And that's when it REALLY starts to piss people off.

The problem with Space Base is that it falls into the "why play this when there are so many other, better games in the genre" problem. Couple that with the Early Access mess and...well...toast.

No mention of "War of the Three Kingdoms"? It's a Chinese-only game, but it holds only 9% positive reviews out of nearly 40k total, and it hit bottom and stood there pretty much the game's release back in 2021.

Fun fact: O2Jam Online at first got hit with even lower % than Three Kingdoms by the second week, but Chinese players engaged in review manipulation to bring the score up to over 20%, just to keep Three Kingdoms as the lowest rated game on Steam.
