Looking forward to a Shenmue 4

Didn't Yu Suzuki state from the beginning, back in the Dreamcast days that this franchise would be something/ somewhere around 6 or 7 games..? That's what I recall anyways.

What if they used Dragon Engine from Yakuza? That would be tight.

Shenmue 3 was good why so mutch complaining

The idea of a continuous sequel that doesn’t wrap the story isn’t far fetched. Yu Suzuki did say he’d try to wrap the story by either 4 or 5. Shenmue is a written novel and the remaining chapters have to be adapted into game playable format. I don’t know if this info is true or not but please take it with a grain of salt. Shenmue wasn’t the big failure some believe as it was the top 4th. Dreamcast seller. People criticize the crowdfunded 3rd. But they ignore the budget/time constraints. Still true fans should forget the mishaps about 3 and move forward to the conclusion.

They should really think about letting RGG studios work on shenmue 4 and using the dragon engine, the game would look beautiful and it could be a breather for them between the Yakuza/LaD games.

Shenmue is 5 games. Lan Di is supposed to get beaten on the 5th game. I doubt they won't finish the entire story even if it taken many years to accomplish. Shenmue and Yakuza are hot games. They have many fans, and the Shenmue story till this day is very unique. There is no other game like it. Yakuza is the closest to Shenmue. With that said, everyone is waiting on Shenmue 4 and a Shenmue 3 update.

Yes i would like to see shenmue story end. If they cant afford to make the game make a movie and finish the story that way

Cool,, Shenmue is the father of all open world games including Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA. May the big developers support and fund it.

It's the only open world game RPG by far that doesn't feel like a grind like GTA, Fallout or BatMan: Arkham Knight (amazing games but still grinds) and leaves you with a good emotion.

I would absolutely back anything Shenmue. I actually really enjoyed my time with Shenmue 3 and even if it’s more of the same (even though he did say it would be different) I would still back.

Why arent people talking about the fact that this series needs virtua fighter 3D fighting game mechanics to be unique! It cant be a brawler like yakuza

Good luck with a Kickstarter, considering the last one was a disaster and the final product was a disappointment. This guy needs to write a book of the story, not make a game.

The animation deserved more attention

As a fan, I hope not. Yu Suzuki can’t be trusted to actually finish this story. Shenmue 3 did near-zero to advance the plot at all, and aged like milk upon release. He had the chance actually end the story with the anime, and decided to just cover the existing games story yet again instead.

I only would like more of the first Shenmue. I don’t care about the story personally.

Problem with the sales numbers is they do not include the "sold" copies from the Kickstarter. Also, this was the fastest funded video game in history at that time. Big mistake, Sega would never touch this as long as Yu Suzuki lives.

Lets get Shenmue 4

One of my all time favorite franchises, they just need to modernize it but without losing what makes it Shenmue.

They need to bring back the old fighting mechanics and no hunger system! If they want new mechanics then at least give us Yakuza style mechanics. It would only make sense.

I think if they do make a 4th game, they need to take it in a different direction. Open world games have evolved to a point where shenmues feel behind on the times. When the first game came out, there was nothing like it, but we live in a post-red dead redemption and post-grand theft auto world. I don't think shenmue 4 should be like those games but I think shenmue needs to be something completely different from its former self.

I played Shenmue 1 when i was 19 Years old. 2 Years later i played Shenmue 2. 18 Years after that i played the third Shenmue and thought the story had finally been told to the end. Now i am 43 years old and i want to kill Lan Di before i die.

If the next game is actually the ending of the series, then I think more loyal fans would purchase the game…don’t know if it would be worth the financial risk though…if I were sega, I’d try crowd funding again.

I certainly hope that for Shenmue 4 we get a more fleshed-out story with memorable key moments for Ryo. As fun as Shenmue 3 was to play I didn't feel any key growth with Ryo and Shenhua as characters compared to the first two games.

Yu Suzuki is delusional if he thinks Mue 3 catered to hardcore fans. It was abysmal. Terrible combat, forced training, rubbish side content which was most of the game, stamina and eating, and zero story movement. Not even close to the originals.

yeah they'res clearly a point in making it, the fans will buy it, The anime did well and if it gets a physical release the fans will buy it, and the new fans that have joined the community that only ever watched the anime will also likely buy shenmue4.

of course there is a point to it - every other game out there is utter crap compared to the shenmue series (yeah)

Shenmue is a gem. I need a fourth I could live in them forever. Thank goodness I found yakuza. I am starting shenmue over.

Why are they keep making yakuza games but not shenmue? They should remake shenmue 1 and 2 or making 4.

Is so easy to spot people that were there and lived the moment, from posers that get their info from 2nd rate internet sources and create twisted narratives about one of the most influential and impressive games of all time. That games have evolved for 20+ years since, that's a very different issue.

Bring back the throws. I loved Shenmue 3 but not the actual combat.

Shenmue had next to nothing to do with the production of Shenmue 3, so I doubt they‘ll have a say in Shenmue 4.
We‘ve known that Shenmue will be 5 games at least for 20+ years, so the cliffhanger ending is expected.

I was really hoping Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio would work on Shenmue 4
