looks like every game shown here was made for the dreamcast and was a port to the PS2. hardware wise the PS2 is has 5-6x the graphical power of the dreamcast. that said its impressive how well some of the dreamcast games ran. especially side by side comparisons with the n64.

That’s not true about god of war. They probably would’ve needed more discs but I don’t think it would be a major issue. It would probably have some details missing and run at a lower frame rate but would probably have looked sharper. It’s basically ally like comparing the ps2 to the OG xbox.

I consider the Dreamcast as the 'learning phase' of the 6th generation. It gave developers an early chance to begin testing the limits set by the 5th generation for games without completely breaking the mold they were in. This allowed for the later launches of the PS2, GameCube and Xbox to have games that looked 'Next Generation' rather than the 'Upgraded PS1' type games we saw the majority of on Dreamcast. It's a visibly seen truth that launch titles on newer generations always look like upgraded versions of the previous gens final releases, Having a system with capabilities on par with what would could 2 years later gave these developers a chance to test the waters so to speak. It's still a crying shame we never got to see big developers at the time have the chance to learn and take full advantage of the Dreamcast hardware and show us what it was fully capable of, but we have homebrew who are slowly building up to this possibility.

The only reason why the PS2 won the console battle was because the PS2 was a DVD player too. Dreamcast wasn't. Back in the day DVD players had taken over VHS and were an expensive item. People very rarely mention that but many of my friends bought the PS2 because their parents also wanted a DVD player. Dreamcast looked better even though it had no time to develop games like the PS2 had. Plus... it had... ONLINE GAMING that actually worked in the early 2000s. As a console, the Dreamcast was far better. It just so happened to be a strategical failure.

You are comparing Resident Evil: Code Veronica vs Resident Evil: Code Veronica X ps2 but because you did not compare the extended version of Dreamcast that is the same as that of Ps2 it is obvious that the version you have in the video is not Resident evil: Code Veronica X

Dreamcast is way better because if you start comparing ps2 to Dreamcast you might as well compare ps2 to the Dreamcast 2 aka the Xbox original. Way better than ps2 and it’s actually the Same generation console

sadly the dreamcast kind of sucks the library is weak . the controller desing and the white color of console really did not attract the casual consumers or most gamers. also a very noise fan. the dreamcast looks more like a kids toy. something that i didnt get beacuase previous desings of segas consoles the sega saturn 94 and the megadrive 88 looks more appealing

I was a huge Dead or Alive fan back in the day, and had every game on every format. One of the biggest differences between platforms was DOA2, Dreamcast vs PS2. The Dreamcast version truly looks a generation ahead.

Dreamcast could've done a lot better if it's lifetime would've been longer. In many ways Dreamcast was better. It has double VRAM 8MB vs 4MB. That's why every port I see from both Dreamcast and PS2, PS2 has worse textures, that's because of less VRAM. That's why you never saw Shenmue on PS2. Shadow of the colosus, metal gear solid, and others, could've been possible, maybe with less poligons, but close enough to PS2. But the problem was the lifetime of Dreamcast, it died too soon...

Code Veronica is best on Dreamcast because it was designed for the Dreamcast! That's why the textures show more details like you said in your video and why you can see barb wire. Why was that removed from the ps2 version? The ps2 version is a weaker port. Dreamcast is number 1! I don't understand how you can say you side with the ps2 version at the end of the video when the ps2 version is clearly blurrier and lacks the detail. Is there some ps2 fan boyism showing up or do you really prefer the colors on the ps2 version? I definitely prefer the Sega Dreamcast version and that's the version it was intended to be for. Wasn't Code Veronica suppose to be an exclusive for the Dreamcast until Dreamcast flopped?

Early PS2 Games were....Very Muddy and low res. dreamcast had VGA support too. Only some of games utilised power of PS2 like MGS2 did. PS2 got Shadow of colossus, MGS3 and Gran turismo 4 later of the lifecycle....to see how much graphics improved less than 3 years on sonic adventure 1 to 2(and sonic adventure 1 was on 30fps with some framedrops.... And adventure 2 was run on flat out smooth stable 60fps and cut scenes were actually better than Gamcube's "SA2 Battle" ... We can only guess what would happen if dreamcast lasted longer. Like what if Gamecube launced early and could run movie- DVD... Haha

If you test these with a 4K internal resolution with an emulator, the Dreamcast wins in all cases. The PS2 has nice graphical effects but all games look soft and blurry.

This was an interesting video. You're def biased towards PS2..you mentioned PS2's feats with no caveats, but whenever you mentioned a DC feat, you had to underscore it with a point for the PS2, or why you liked it better. At the end you admit all the games generally look better on DC but then you say that it's because they were developed early in the PS2 days...Dreamcast came out only one year before PS2, these games were made in the early days of both...it doesn't make sense to point that out as if DC had the upper hand from having seasoned developers working with the hardware.

Ps2 graphics are shittier in literally every comparison vs dreamcast, even games that are not SEGA ports. Ps2 was inferior that's all, and sony fans have got to admit this. Only thing ps2 had over dreamcast was the superior DVD storage discs so later they can devlop larger scope games like sotc, r&c, jak and dexter, MGS2 and more. If dreamcast had dvd storage and those same games were on dreamcast, dreamcast would play them better and they would look better.

I think considering how much earlier it came out the dreamcast was a great system, much like the Genesis vs the Super Nintendo
