Touchpads suck. TrackPoints rule. :P Seriously, you guys really need to daily drive one for a month, with the touchpad disabled and then do an update here. Just because you're not used to it doesn't mean it's 'weird' or 'just about hyperefficiency.' Touchpads are the least ergonomic, slowest, sloppiest, most annoying thing ever. Don't knock it 'til you actually try it!

growing up, we had the trackpoint on our school computers in the 90's. i cant find anything quite like the ones from the old windows XP era. the nubs were not rubber but more like a hard felt, and stuck up from the keyboard more than the modern ones allowing a bit more control, or even 2 finger use. never drifted or had any problems clicking with them.

Maybe ask someone who knows how to touch type why it's there.

I have used Trackpoint for years on a T40p, working now with trackpads is really painful to me - the time lost!

it's not .75s - it's much longer and causes errors. People who really type do it without looking at the keyboard - like I just did.

"It's less intuitive than a touch pad" - no, it isn't! I hate touch pads. The first thing I do with a Lenovo laptop is disable it. The nub is soooo easy to use and you don't have to move your finger.

I dont use it in my thinkpad, but I think if I took the time and patience to learn it I would enjoy it.

I have a ThinkPad model that was bought 6 years ago, and is a refurbished 11-year old model. It still competes with modern laptops to this day with Ubuntu Linux set up, assuming the user doesn't plan to use graphics much higher than Minecraft.

Mouse>TrackPoint>Touchpad. If using a laptop on your lap the TrackPoint is immeasurably better than a touchpad.

I played classic Doom online with a TrackPoint back in the day on my 2008 ThinkPad. I wasn't very good to begin with but I was able to quickly get as good with the nub.
I think people who crap on the nub don't realize how trash-ass touch pads were back then. So some folks got used to it, as it was vastly superior.

Wait they still include them? I thought they dropped it quite some time ago cuz most laptops I've seen with it are from like 2013

I do have a Thinkpad and it features this input. However I rarely use it. But I really got used to using the mouse buttons above the actual touchpad. And multi finger gestures.

Kinda feel like my touchpad does sometimes fail to pickup my fingers, so it's a backup. Or I should get an RMA.

I've bought my first ThinkPad less than a month ago and already using the trackpoint is in my muscle memory, whenever I try to use my gaming laptop (which is also from Lenovo!) I instinctively go for the "nub" and it's so frustrating because it's not there

For power-users, keyboard-shortcut fanatics, and excel users, the trackpoint is ideal. I do use a wireless mouse for some tasks but for 75%+ usage, I like to keep my hands on the keyboard at all times. I cannot go back to a pad or rely solely on a mouse. Trackpoint fo lyfe

It doesn't move, it ain't a joystick, all it does is register pressure, and you can learn to use it during your everyday tasks without any difficulty, it will take at most 20 minutes.

And at least in the thinkpads, it is also the best scrolling device ever, regular mice have this gimmicky side scroll barrels or levers to horizontal scroll, while just by pressing the middle button of the trackpoint, bellow the spacebar you can turn the trackpoint into a scrolling device. Is so much better than the tilting scroll wheels and belive me because I got two trackballs with them.

On my office (Lenovo) laptop I made more use of the trackpoint than the trackpad. I found it get for writing documents without the cursor mysteriously jumping to another position. My last personal laptop to have it was a Fujitsu.

Trackpoint is it's proper name. If you know how to use it is far more efficient & precise and the other thing to remember was that the first track pads were terrible which is why it lingered around. Toshiba used to put track pads on their consumer focused laptops and trackpoint on the business series. Having had the Toshiba Portege where the Trackpoint was the only option I got used to it very quickly and now I disable the trackpad on my Thinkpad's and exclusively use the trackpoint. If Lenovo removes the Trackpoint somewhere down the road the will be a very vocal revolt of Thinkpad cultists.

I call it TrackPoint because that's what Synaptics called it.
And on the IBM ThinkPad R52, it was way better than the touchpad for playing Quake 3
I wish consumer laptops had that option as it's pretty useful.
