The BEST RECEIVER for Home Theater? ONKYO TX-RZ50 REVIEW - 8K Receiver

I Just pick the TX-RZ50 Love it, but one question I have is why on my Sony TV when go to turn on an app I get NO sound. Picture yes. If I turn on TV speakers mode yes, I have sound out on app mode and tv mode. No Sound on the Onkyo for apps on the Sony TV.. Help PS I made sure I check all my setting

I just got one it cannot find the audio from an older Blu-ray player picture works fine speakers work fine what am I doing wrong? Player only has 1 HDMI out jack.

Thanks for a great review. Got the RZ50. Happy with everything, except one inportant point. I would have liked to use an external 2 channel amp (older onkyo receiver) for powering LR channels. But on doing that I cannot process 11 channels .. only 9. To get 11 channels I have to use my fairly powerful NR636 to process only back surrounds or one if the atmos heights. That does not take enough of a load off the RZ50 to make any difference. Simply adds the two channels. I feel if we could take the LR channels to the external amp. the performance would be a lot better with a lot more wattage available to drive all the surrounds. Thoughts?

Onkyo is one brand I will never waste money on again. My amp had to be sent in for a recall warranty service, it broke within 4 months, and they wouldn't do a thing. Waste of money.

It is 2023 Sept. Compared to the RZ50 What is your take on the Yamaha - AVENTAGE RX-A4A .
Do you have a 2023 preference? I have an Onkyo TX-SR804 that is flaming out. It has been a jewel for many years. Thanks for your time and effort put into your opinions and reviews.

First off, thank you so much for the videos, I’ve learned so much!!! I have the RZ50, sound is amazing, I love Dirac, but I’m having constant issues with AppleTV4k and my Panasonic 4k Blu-ray player not recognizing the signal and just leaving a blank screen. Sometimes right I the middle of a movie! The Onkyo Screen goes blank, (speaker configuration gone) then it will try to a few times and most of the time, after 5 min of off and on it works…I’ve tried different HDMI inputs, even bought super fancy HDMI Cables. I do not have this issue with my xfinity cable box, works perfect every time.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. And thank you again, the content has helped me so much.

I purchased the RZ-50 earlier this year based upon your recommendation and have been having mixed results with the quality of the Dirac room correction. I recently took another deep dive into the manual and was surprised to learn that for over half of the listening modes, "The speaker calibrations measured with Dirac Live are disabled." This includes pure audio and most of the music related listening modes. Not sure why Onkyo disables Dirac for listening to music, but it certainly restricts how the unit fits into my system.

How does this compare to the Denon AVR-X3800H

So this review is a year old, so is there anything else that's eclipsed this receiver from a value perspective? Have some of the issues been fixed via firmware that some people have reported? I'm usually a Yamaha fan but need a 5.1.4 + 2.0 zone 2 receiver with Dirac and this seems to be one of the only ones to fit the bill in my budget.

Ok I was all in on this review until she just said she liked the sound of the Yamaha v6a. Low key bit of a head scratcher.

I’m actually returning this receiver, I have never owed an item so glitchy with switching inputs, hdmi handshake incredibly slow and frustrating

I bought this model and my new iPhone bluetooth connection drops here and there while connected to play music. My iPhone works with bluetooth with other receivers and my car.. never drops.. it is only this receiver.

I am currently in the market to replace my Sony DA3100ES AVR which I've had since 2007. My set-up is somewhat unique in that I run a Jolida JD302CRC integrated EL34 tube amp with my Ascend Acoustics Sierra Towers for vinyl & CD listening. The Jolida features HT Bypass, and is connected via RCA cables to the Sony's 'Surround' pre-out. For Home Theater, I switch on the HT Bypass, and the Sony takes control. Connected to the Sony is a 10" Mirage Subwoofer along with Ascend Acoustics Sierra Duo center channel, and Ascend HTM-200'S for the rear channels. Also; a Sony Blu-ray deck. 😎 So, I run 5.1.
Moving to a modern AVR, I'm wondering how speaker set-up with Dirac or similar will work with my configuration.
Right now, after a little research, including your review, I am leaning toward this Onkyo. 👍

Is there any receiver out there that supports 6.1 with a single center rear channel? Didn't know DD-EX or DTS-ES doesn't exist anymore.

My last Onkyo actually started to smoke and had a burning smell. Scared the crap out of me. Never buy one again.

Andrew, which one would you recommend? Onkyo NR6100 or RZ50?

Just bought an Onkyo TZ-RZ50 with the following:

Klipsch RP-8000F II (front towers), RP-504C II (center), RP-500SA II (Atmos up firing), RP-502S II (rear surround), RP-140D (side surround), and 2x R-12SW subs.
Is this receiver adequate for this setup? Should I consider additional amplifiers? I'm new to this...picked out the system myself, so I am not sure if I have the right components. It sounds superb, but maybe it can be better (not that it really needs to be for my current ability to listen critically).

Onkyo has a lot of features to offer but their reliability sucks. I've Purchase two brand new units and they both failed due to HDMI Card issues, even after they replaced the card under warranty they failed again. Enter Emotive separates...

I just bought the RZ50 as a secondary receiver for my basement recently. Nice impression. ( don't know all the ins and outs yet) Only got two Polk audio Tower speakers + a center and two rears + sub. The sound is very impressive.

but. a month ago I bought a Yamaha RX-A6A, which is just about identical to the RX-A8A. with a different price tag.
with all due respect to Andrew and Kristi who do an awesome job. Prices have come down dramatically in the last 2-3 months. and while I only paid $1299 for the RZ50. you get a lot for this receiver for its price point. nothing can beat it.

But. if you"er an audioholic like me. then you need to hear the Yamaha RX-A6A. it's a game-changer. It's currently about $1000 more than the RZ50. especially if you own 4-6 Ohm speakers.
while the RZ50 will probably is suitable for most. the Yamaha is in a totally different league.

if you have high-end speakers and a good listening area with proper acoustics. then you will immediately notice the difference between a high-end receiver and a good bang for your $ receiver. I can say the Yamaha RXA6A is on par with the Denon a110 amp. there is no magic here. you get what you pay for. it all depends on your budget and if you're looking for top end audio.
the RZ50 is a bargain right now at $1299.

I just bought this as well as the Elac Uni-Fi Reference stand mounts and center channel for a HT setup. The Elacs are currently on sale and I couldn't pass up such a good deal and just rushed to buy them. Anyone else have this combo and can report on the performance using the internal amp? Given the reviews saying the Elacs require a beefy amp, I've budgeted for a possible addition of an Emotiva Basx A3, but obviously I'd prefer to spend that money elsewhere. I'd love to hear from someone who has done the same thing and can comment on the difference.

Hi great review but the rz5100 is a processor only

Bought an RZ50 to go with my LG C9 OLED (2019) and have a weird issue with connected devices. When I connect my PS5, PS3, Apple TV and Nintendo Switch, the LG can display the devices plugged in to the RZ50 as individual, selectable inputs. Problem is, when I turn on CEC on the PS3, the Nintendo is no longer selectable on the LG input menu and will no longer auto-switch to that input when I turn it on. So I have to choose btwn the PS3 and the Switch for CEC and power state matching. Anyone know why this might be?

Bonus:
When I switch from the Nintendo to the Apple TV, I can no longer switch back to the Switch from the LG TV input menu. I have to manually change inputs on the Onkyo receiver

What is a receiver in the $2500-$3000 range that has a solid phono input but can also handle surround speakers? I have a nice 2.1 stereo amp, but the sonos system I have for tv and movies (arc and sub) loses connectivity a lot so looking for a hybrid that is of higher quality than this Onkyo?

I’m asking cause my current Marantz SR5006 is not powering the speakers well. Tried a borrowed high end old Yamaha and the difference was literally night and day. And prior to seeing this I was convinced I should go Yamaha.

so its 2023 and I think I am ordering a TX-RZ50. Modest speaker setup 5.1 channel and this receiver is still relevant enough for years to come I think. Great review.

Sounds like an impressive beast, and currently priced here in Australia exceptionally well! Might just have to be my new upgrade now, because i can't justify an extra $1599 for a Yamaha RXA6A...

Did you mention you have to add a secondary amp to make the RZ-50 a true 11 channel receiver? It processes 7.1.4, but to output the last two channels, you need to plug in an additional amp. Boo! Anyway, I plugged in my old Pioneer receiver for the rear surrounds, and all is good. The RZ-50 does run hot, though, so I also had to add two external fans. Bought them from Amazon for, like, $30. Now I'm still trying to mess with Dirac and subwoofer placement, but I do like the Onkyo RZ-50. I bought it just before they sold out in Canada, where I am. Thanks for this review!

Okay. I have a pair of KEF Q350s, a KEF Q650C, and 2 RSL Speedwoofer 10sMKii on the way in a 7.2 system. I'm currently using a Pioneer VSX-LX503. Would this receiver be overkill for that speaker compliment? Mostly movies and concert discs. No 2 channel listening.

Great review , thanks for the info, so thinking the 7000 over Marantz and Denon? Very bold, is the 360 mapping that much of a game changer? Really wondering if this strong enough of an improvement with regular speakers, will check out more of your reviews the Marantz and Denon, love to see some sennheiser ambeo reviews with new sub and multi sub performance.

Now using JBL Quantum Duo Gaming Speaker for my gaming PC.
Sound much much better then av receiver.

It is $960 refurbished from Onkyo with Warranty! Insane deal! Still an amazing value even now.
