I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

document yourself extensively and try harder kid because your info is misleading and this topic is so extensive that it can be hardly explained in 2 min ... (the time before you "show us" how awesome and modern fedora can be)

-Mac OS isn't influenced by Unix it is Unix. It uses the Unix Kernel
-Windows neither uses the Unix Kernel, nor does it run a Unix-Like Kernel (free/openBSD or Linux) rather it uses a kernel developed in house by Microsoft called the NT kernel.

Hooman: "Linux is a UNIX like operating system"
Me, an avid GNU/Linux user: "Linux is NOT an operating system... it's a kernel"

Uh Mac OS is directly related to Unix, not influenced. It literally is a version of Unix. And calling Windows a Unix-based OS is like calling a dog a cat. It simply isn't a Unix OS. Finally, Linux IS a Unix version.

1. First thing, there are Unix-Systems which are OpenSource (for example "Darwin" = "MacOSX Kernel").
2. If Unix wouldn't be a trademark, there would be 3 real Unix (FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD), which are fully OpenSource and real Operating Systems with far more freedom in their source code, than linux has with the GPL, because of BSD licensing.
3. Linux is a kernel and ferdora a distribution. distribution != operating system
4. Windows has nearly nothing to do with Unix ("nearly")

So, could you basically consider Linux to be a clone of Unix, and that it's basically a free and bootleg version in some senses?

I'm still confused. Was Unix an operating system or was it a kernel? I've heard that Max OS X uses a Unix kernel... So I'm confused.
