Aww thanks for the shout out! Did a great job on the video, especially with the data. VERY interesting seeing Beko in dead-last. Ouch! One thing about the data set you had: it'd of been interesting to see warranty calls on all brands with and without icemakers (since we've both mentioned it), then service calls by freezer placement (top-mount, bottom-mount, side-by-side). We don't do many new units + warranty calls so my sample size is pretty limited, but if you ever do a follow up on this, that's something I'd be interested in. Same thing goes for an even larger company like, say, Yale.

There are more digital and electronic parts in a fridge these days. It's important to use a quality surge protector to prevent expensive circuit board replacement.

Amana, Frigidaire, Electrolux. Yeah, But the stores in my town don’t really sell these. Almost all LG and Samsung……maybe 1 Amana so people buy LG and Samsung. Side by side….yeah, there’s not enough room. We use a lot of ice. Should I use my non-Ice maker side by side freezer to hold ice trays? Don’t know, yeah

The girl and the information she provides is awesome!! Loved the line "But at the end of the day the reason you're buying a fridge is to keep food fresh... not split an atom" That was FAH!!!

My current fridge is 29 years old and still running great. i am scared of buying a new fridge, as you say, they will only last a few years, and they are disposable. I guess I will do the same thing with my wife, just dispose of her and get a newer model every couple of years.

I've had the same GE fridge, stove and (above stove) microwave for the last 17 years with no major issues on any of them, but I'm thinking they may be coming to the end of their lifespans, so perhaps it is time to start looking for at least a new fridge? The worst time to buy one is right after your old one has failed and you are in a hurry to replace it... now, do I really need an older beer fridge in the garage? hmm.

Had a Samsung Fridge. Worked great (had it for 14 years and left it with the house). LG dishwasher. Best one I've ever owned. Have just got a GE garage ready fridge. Will see how well it works.

If you can locate a fridge where it can “ breathe “ as in not sticking into a box cupboard kitchen cabinet design then it will run cooler. The less work a compressor must do the longer it will last. I realize that having a foot of distance between the back of the fridge and wall and having nothing on the sides thereby reducing airflow can be difficult to achieve. In a perfect world a fridge should sit in the middle of the kitchen with tons of airflow. This is not practical so what people do to their fridges is like keeping a car engine on a dyno forever, excruciatingly detrimental to the life of the compressor….

Pro tip from a former luxury appliance salesman (Former NKBA member). The more basic the refrigerator, generally the more reliable it is. No ice maker is reliable, especially external dispensers. You sacrifice quality for convenience with external ice dispensing. Internal ice makers are the most reliable automatic icemakers, the most reliable is an ice cube tray.

Mechanical refrigerators (only top freezers) are the best for reliability (typically Frigidaire or GE/Haier). Look for internal cooling dial controls, not digital temp controllers.

Right on the money. Our LG needed the compressor replaced twice in the first 5ish years. Yes the part was warranted, but not the labor, which was about $350 each time. It’s now about 7ish years old and the door seals and torn, the door hinges are bad and and the flap in the center of the doors (French door refrigerator) is broken! Never again!

Meh. Half-cocked data, half-baked analysis of the data. You (correctly) tossed in a few important caveats, but many of the commenters here are not very discerning - meaning they don't understand how those caveats hugely impact your "opinion" of who makes the better appliance.

I've had two Samsung fridges over the course of 5 years and they both broke down so many times that with the warranties I bought for them, I was able to replace them both times. I then bought an LG and I LOVE it! Never had an issue in four years I've had it.

All of them. Unless you are ready to fork out unrealistic money for a customized refrigerator, they are ALL garbage.

Edit: That is actually true for EVERYHTING. If you didn't get it custom made for you, to fit your specific needs(and wants), and out of the highest quality materials and components, your "whatever it is" is garbage. Straight up.

Us poor people have to settle on everything.

Big issue for me: COSTCO! They promote massively SAMSUNG and especially LG refrigerators. I purchased one a few days ago, still waiting to get it installed. The refrigerator is a phenomenal buy---$3000 marked down to $1400. With a bundled deal another $175 off for adding a Samsung microwave. It was just impossible to turn down this deal. I will purchase the extended warranty good for five years, but honestly, it is not enough of a warranty. Good useful video. Thanks.

This is what happens when we let corporations become monopolies. Only 3 major players, selling many brand names leads to no competition/poor quality.

I got all kenmore elite appliances that have been working great. Got them in 2013 and finally fridge compressor failed last year, not bad for 9 years. Got that replaced and working fine. Also last year the microwave magnetron failed, replaced that and been fine as well. Dishwasher and oven had no issues.

All of the new fancy fridges are trash. The simpler the design the longer they will last. Get a top mount. But even better than that dont get a combo fridge freezer at all if you have the space. For the price of these new fancy fridges, you can get a stand up freezer and a fridge only fridge and put them nex to each other.

In 2016, we went all in with Samsung in our kitchen remodel. All 6 appliances failed within 5 years. The oven and refrigerator ice maker failed within warranty. The refrigerator needed constant after market fixes. It was the worst and most costly. The worst item was the dishwasher. Although I could repair it myself. I had to blow on a pipe every 6 months, even after changing our washing habits. Turns out the Frigidaire we got to replace it doesn't get anything dry, so we aren't just po pooing Samsung. Bottom line use Samsung for tvs screens and phones - not kitchen appliances! The applicance that lasted the longest was the microwave. But the turntable broke. Samsung is junK.

LG: my LG G4 failed because of improper soldering. Two friends' LG G3s failed for the same reason. Yes, LG didn't fix this in the next generation and just decided to silence the problem. Since then I haven't bought even an LG pencil. I''m sorry for the people who had their LG refrigerators replaced.

Absolutely…LG and Samsung. Remember, LG is the rebranded GoldStar, the cheapest crap you could buy at Walmart back in the 80’s and 90’s. Oh…Millennials can’t remember back that far. Stay away from the Korean crap. That goes for Kia and Hyundai, too.
