This was a very helpful video and so refreshing to here a complete pros and cons. Some other videos I’ve seen seem way too sponsored and only give you the pros!

I would really like to switch to divi as I’m a beginning blogger, however the shortcodes thing is preventing me because the content can not be at risk to lose. If I were to use divi to only build my site and write my content on Gutenberg or Elementor would that be a safer way to keep my content if I ever wished to switch to a different theme?

Hi Adam, As usual you present good understandable content for us "non-techies". One point I cant quite understand. I use Flexsquees 2 WP theme - but wnat to change. Do I just use a Divi plugin on my present theme (to keep content) or go the whole way and change the theme to WP Divi? Hope you enjoyed your week end - your videos made mine more enjoyable down here in sunny South Australia - regards,
Will

Why oh why can't all page builders either conform to one standard of short codes, or, just create web standard coding?
That would be a killer product if anyone is capable ;-)

Well, all these "you are stuck with Divi for life" nonsense is just that. I checked out Elmentor and Beaver Builder, even though the content they left behind is more legible, they are not portable - meaning the pages won't work in any other theme or page builder platform, so you have to recreate them anyway. So in the end, what is the difference? No matter which page builder you use, if you leave it, you will have to recreate your pages in your new theme/page builder.

As a Divi user for several years right now: I will be getting out of it as soon as I can. It is a pretty great builder, mostly user-friendly and the sites look very good, BUT, the support is sub-par (they often don't even answer questions, you have to click a button saying your question wasn't answered yet) and, a biggie: it is WAY slow in loading even with minimal pics, image compression, no extra plugins and minimal site design. It's a huge-huge flaw, since google penalizes slow load time, and Elegant doesn't put any focus or attention on this huge flaw. My sites are fairly small, so I will be getting out of it soon expecting to have to rebuild, which will take just a couple days per each project, which will be worth it.

Whistles and Bells Galore ! - but that doesn't translate to ease of building. DIVI is complicated to use and really slow. I really wanted to love this theme and I bought the lifetime membership. I wish they would spend more time on function and less on new inventions. Why not smooth out the builder first and add features later. That is the problem here; features are not prefected before rollout. Like I said I wanted to love DIVI but I find it clumsy. It's like building a site with a rubicks cube

Hello, I am slightly confused. In one video you said that they have made it easier to change themes or discontinue to use Divi by adding a single line of code. You mentioned that previously people were upset that Divi made it hard to switch from divi, and your response was that they have changed that.

In this video, you mention that you can't switch from Divi, you would get that block of code and you would have to re-upload all of your content.

Please let me know which one is true, I think it will be my final decision maker for which builder to use. Thanks!

I'm having this issue now. NOT a techie, don't get CSS but been using Divi Extra since the beginning. Visual builder crashed my server when activated last year (red-lined so was taken down and had to be totally re-created...ET was no help) so I only use back-end editor (wireframe). But loading speed is 14 seconds - no exaggeration - on Pingdom. Looking to change out to Elementor and Astra for speed increase, but the changeover is BRUTAL (49 content pages, 52 blog articles). Don't want to use the Divi builder plugin because the short codes seem to be the cause of the slow load, along with Javascript. So yeah, this is a big issue for non-techies that can't afford to hire someone. Wish I had known earlier... Thanks for the video!

A+! Fill the Dammmm! Looking for comments on the D based Magazine theme EXTRA.
My impulse is to go for DIVI, and deal with the issues, based on the thoroughness and focus. But I have to check out your other tubers on Elementor and BB. Will definitely use your AL so I can take advantage of your very cool offer.

Being stuck using Divi...why is that a problem? I've had to pull content from other themes with even worse short code setups. In fact all WP themes lock you in in some way with bloated code, short codes or plugins. It's a weak point and a mute point since they also have a page builder plugin that can run your divi layouts on other themes.

okay you recommend elementor. when i went to check it out it says it only gives you 1 year of updates and 1 year of support?? what happens after a year? how do i get additional updates and support?? divi 3.0 is a one time price and it is lifetime support and lifetime updates. that makes it sound like a better option. am i missin something ?

I bought the DIVI lifetime licence a few months ago, I was initially impressed as I was new to wordpress. I noticed that my sites were a bit slow and I did not have much content. I really like the Extra theme with the Divi package as I created a review site and posted some sample posts. It is very slow.
I tried Elementor free and bought GeneratePress and my test sites are very fast. If I can recreate the extra theme layout with GeneratePress I will switch over.

1st of all I am not from the Elegant themes 2nd I am using Divi from day one and customer for the ET for the last 7 years. I never having an issue with them and their great support is unforgetable. You mention there that "you stuck for life". Divi is lifetime licence almost 60% or equal to others who you trying to promote (Beaver Builder or Elementor Pro) because I went to their pages and they are offering not only the base but renewal commission as well. So as a customer I have to pay every year for the support and updates for beaver Builder and Elementor pro on the full price all those years. Normally in the digital world, it's between 20-30% for the maintinance cost.

Hi, great videos! Thanks a lot!

I have some Q's.
1: i'm not a shark to css. Is it then NOT recommended to dive into divi?
2: i have a redesign/remake of a website I guess i will do in divi if i get there. But it will contain a blog. How can one solve that issue? I mean how can i combine the them builder and i.e Extra theme plus then make the posts/blog with out using that theme? Is it possible? Can you make a video/tutorial about it? Look forward to your answers!
Best wishes,
Mark

A very nice video with some really good conclusions. For me.... I'm not going with Divi because my website has a large amount of content and if I ever wanted to change to something else in the future - it would be a nightmare. Like Adam says, if you are doing a small brochure website - go with Divi, but for anything bigger and more complicated, perhaps Elementor or Beaver Builder. Oh - and these new pages have a lot of flexibility that is being added to continuously but with Divi, you have to add custom CSS code here and there. I'm not up for that.

I love Divi, I never touched the front end editor for about a year, I now use it and love it, it's so fast to get things done. The Library for loading pages and modules for the clients really makes it easy for them to build pages. Its improving all the time and for small websites (99.99%) of what I do it's a godsend - its the best money I've ever spent. Im sure there maybe a rare case when content may need to go on another site but I'm not losing sleep over that scenario, the support and community for help is excellent as well. I now concentrate on my video photography and graphics work and webdesign has become that web 'design' I also find I'm steadily using less plugins as well. I only think they are going to get bigger and better, longevity was a decision also why I went with them, initially it was a choice between Divi and Genesis, I could code but didn't want to I just wanted to spend my time designing when ever possible. I'm so glad I went with Divi.

Hey Adam! Great review, just wanted to say that you can still use the Divi plugin in case you wanted to switch to other themes, it's just a small plugin which you can keep even if you canceled your membership with ET, so the idea of not able to move away at all isn't really accurate, I feel this is an important note that you've missed. The second thing is you said ET increased their plan prices, actually they didn't, they removed the 69$ plan which didn't include plugins like Bloom and Monarch, so they just kept the dev and lifetime plans the same price.

Ok so now i watched it, you rock Adam...your ability to cover things and not leaving out important stuff is inspiring! So my question is, even if i know you prefer beaver builder for your site because its rock steady, would you recommend divi to build a course website with membership area? or is that what you would categories as a BIG website?? I think I know the answer, its just that I know how to use divi now after 6 months of usage at work. Do you think the short code issue will dissapear soon? I also experience bugs during updates with divi, not so cool!

I used to be a Divi hater, but your page builder comparison last fall helped me see it in a different way. I also had some clients who needed re-designs of their websites, switching from one theme to another, and I realized switching themes is a lot of work no matter what you use. Every theme and builder is going to have its unique quirks that don't carry over, so you might as well use what you're comfortable with. I purchased Divi early this year, and it's super fun.

Hey Adam!

I think you missed the point that using the Divi Builder plugin you dont have to stick with the theme. By activating the plugin, all the shortcodes will be interpreted even with another theme.
I recently changed the theme for a client and activated the plugin - it worked like a charm.

Greetz!

Hey Adam many people in divi including me face a problem in divi and i.e is sidebar and main content area( left bar) doesn't physically look separated there is just a line before sidebar and it doesn't look good blogging sites. There was no way to physically separate sidebar and content area but recently i did some testing with CSS and i got a really amazing CSS which can do that. After this CSS, divi looks completely a blogging theme. Adam, I would highly appreciate if you share my CSS with your audience because many people want to use divi theme for blogging as well.

I am using Divi for quite a few sites these days. My way of avoiding the future shortcode problem is to use Divi for the "high design" pages: Home, About, Contact, Blog Listing, etc. That usually doesn't amount to that many pages on most sites. Then I just continue to use the default Wordpress editor for all blog posts and other more generic pages. In this way, if I ever have to change themes I won't have to make that many adjustments. And like Made By Sallory said.... you could just use the Divi Builder Plugin to straighten up the leftover shortcodes. I'll bet they end up changing the shortcode thing later on. They are doing so much. It's pretty exciting.

Divi says they support RTL. But they don't. So I use Elementor. Elementor is RTL in its nature

I tried to use DIVI RTL 2 years. With their backend and now with their visual. There are a lot of bugs and a lot of CSS code to insert.

.In the positive side their visual interface is amazing. You can edit text in the visual mode exactly where it is. I did my last LTR site with DIVI

They have history on their visual operations and you can go back and cancel any change you made or all of them
