The reason why I switched from Vegas Pro to Premiere is because of its superior performance, I don't know about DaVinci Resolve's performance but people say it's more superior than Premiere?

I've told myself for years that I was going to switch to Final Cut or Davinci, and yet I'm still using PP. At the end of the day, I'm still able to get the job done and there's no real need to switch.

The most important one: Its integrated with the powerful After Effects!!! Resove has stupid system for animations.

Hi Matt. I switched to Davinci a few years ago and I love it. I own the studio version, but for a while I used the free version of Davinci and it was more than enough for me. I do miss certain plugins in Premiere, but considering the fact that Davinci barely crashes on me and with free updates without a subscription, it's a monumental win for me. I hope that Black Magic continues on that route. I also have Final Cut but I always end up using Davinci Resolve. I have nothing against Premiere. I do miss it sometimes, but I got tired of countless times crashing on me.

1. I dont care for customizeable panels. Davinci's layout is enough. Cleaner look than premiere.

2. Media encoder? I dont mind getting rest while my video is rendering. And my machine is capable of exporting a video within a minute.

3. Dude, davinci has database library. You can export project, and save it to another folder or drive. And premiere doestnt have thay. You dont have to backuo your library

4. Plugin? Who cares?? Autopod? I still prefer manual editing

5. Yes the best color grading!! If you dont know your tool, meaning you are not willing to learn your tool. Come on men. In davinci, no CRASHING! It saves AUTOMATICALLY!!

And premiere charges you what? 29$ a month? Subscription? That crashes multiple times and forgot to save it? Screw your subscription 🤣

I've completely switched to Resolve for a couple years now and I still miss 1 unique feature from Premier: Unlimited timeline zoom. My work sometimes starts from 24+ hour screen recordings for a single project and it's a pain not being able to zoom out far enough to see the whole thing. Resolve still runs noticeably faster to me though.

Thanks Matt, how about price point? Premier is expensive on a continued basis. I also think you've just given Resolve the key on how to gain their competitive edge.Nothing personal, I still think you are an amazing presenter.

I agree with everything you said and these are exactly the reasons why I still use Premiere and have no intention of switching. You only forgot to mention the dynamic link. Having the whole Adobe suite at our disposal blows Davinci out of the water. I'm convinced Davinci's success lies more on its free option than on its inherent qualities. Outside of color grading, I see nothing that makes it significantly better than PP. And glad you mentioned this ridiculous database system rather than a simple file. It drove me nuts when I tried it. Also, when it comes to cost, if you're a professional you can claim it in your taxes so there's no difference at the end of the day.

So basically what you’re saying is… If you’re stupid premier pro is the program for you. If you’re smart, intuitive, like to be challenged, want the best of the best… Then go with da Vinci resolve. And all of these reasons are stupid… Big deal I can’t move my layout around. That’s a reason to go with an inferior editing system?

The reason why there are more Plugins made for Premiere Pro (yet) is because of the wide adopted use of Premiere Pro. For years that Software is in many Productions still today the go to Software…. Same with Android vs iOS… First App will mostly be created for iOS becouse of the wider range of users that will use it. But all of that will and can change when the market shifts.. And it shifts rapidly. Resolve is better in so many ways. And the business model behind BlackMagic not even need to charge for the base Programm. We get Resolve FREE… with like almost 95% of all the Features… this fact alone will over time push Premiere to the side… But yes.. Premiere Pro is still market leader in active users. And i started my Editing Career in Premiere Pro aswell. But im so happy that i switched to DaVinci Resolve… Cheers ❤ Good Video

Idk Premiere Pro and its constant crashes and performance inconsistencies draw me away years ago. I don’t agree with the premise that Premiere is more user friendly. If you see Davincis modules are made for each stage of post production with the UI optimised for each step. I think it is just something to get used to. Also it seems that you are very biased with your personal experience and unless this is a sponsored comparison for Adobe I don’t think that a lot of people who have switched would agree with these points.

#1 is THE reason I can’t switch. I edit on 3 monitors with a highly customized layout. It makes my work so much more efficient and clear cut (for me).

I feel like I’m editing on a tiny laptop screen when I try to use Resolve and have everything crammed onto one screen.

Also #5 is part of it for me. I’ve gotten to a point where I’m happy with what I can VERY quickly get good results with Lumetri color. I’m not a colorist, I don’t need most of what Resolve can do with color.

Pretty weird that you forgot to mention the graphics tab capability, resolve lacks in that territory, the dynamic link to after effects which is way better than fusion, the audio auto remix tool, and the option to drag over to an already animated video or image another one which keeps all the attributes, in DaVinci you don't have drag n drop only copy paste attributes.
But yeah, unfortunatelly that's all, other then this DaVinci is ahead. 😢😢😅

I didn’t see a single viable reason Pro is better and half the information is incorrect. I can’t remember my rebuttal to anything except the last thing you said because I forgot what else you said.. However, Resolve coloring is even easier for beginners with a little know how.. Take Apple log footage for example. Resolve already has the profile for it baked in.. All you have to do is add a CST node in and change the Input Gamma to Apple log. Done.. Doesn’t get any easier than that.. Any node based program is going to be better. Layer base is good for photo, not video

When it comes to working with other designers (almost all of them will work with PS and Illustrator), huge timeline with lots of effects, text animations, plugins, back and forth with clients and so on, Premiere Pro just blows Resolve out of the water. I'd love to fully switch to Resolve, but I found my peace and am currently using both (Resolve for color heavy work, and Premiere Pro for text heavy animations, 2D motion design and so on alongside with AE).

@Dano-Media
@Dano-Media - 17.01.2024 04:38

Reason #1.1: besides the interface being customizable, it also feels simpler and less cluttered, and feels easier to find tools, while Davinci looks like it's trying to copy the modern aesthetic of an iPad UI, or final cut pro. It's personal preference, but for me prefer the Premiere look.

Reason #6: more people use Premiere, so if you ever need to share projects with other editors, chances are they're using Premiere (or Avid if you're editing for bigger gigs).

Reason #7: After Effects is more user friendly as a VFX software than fusion (although layers are a bit more limited with compositing), but it's also WAY more user friendly as a motion graphics tool. If you wanna do anything half-complex that's motion graphics related, you'll have a much nicer time in AE than in Fusion.

Reason #8: (Another personal preference thing) Captions feel easier to create & modify in Premiere Pro.

Just TWO simple perks of Davinci Resolve 18.6
1. Its "FREE", even if you got the Studio Version bundled from some of the products theres NO Subscription
2. Less "Death Screen" while editing and you can return from where youve left
** Davinci Resolve keeps my "Sanity" and money from my pocket

I use both premiere and resolve and the one thing that really annoys me about Resolve is that theres no guides that you can drag around to line stuff up. There is the option to use an adjustment clip with a grid effect on it, but onestly that is awful compared to just quickly dragging them out like in Premiere

The color management and grading options in Resolve are light years ahead of PP. I’ve used both for years, and appreciated my time in PP, but when a better tool comes along, that serves you better in your work…you’d be a dummy not to pick it up

I would argue that FCP is likewise a more robust, plugin friendly and quick on CC, esp with HSL correction as much as PP is compared to Resolve. FCP while having been completely reformulated, is still my goto NLE, not having traditional audio and video tracks is such a freeing thing for an editor. But that's just me.

The comments are wild here:P It’s crazy to see how quickly Resolve has taken over in the prosumer editing space. Adobe was great back in the heyday of Canon 5D Mk 2, but I’ve never had Resolve (the free version) crash on me ever. And exporting multiple cuts or specific parts of a timeline is my bread and butter. Adobe walked so Resolve could run

For now the only two reasons i am not switching to Resolve is :
1. I have loads of motion graphics and other files specifically for Premier . It will be pain in the ass to find them for Resolve , download , look for something again , as i believe Resolve is pretty limited with it (at least was before ) it was hard to find some motion graphics (especially freebies )
2. I am currently traveling and editing on the go , so i dont have time to learn another program as for now .

But some of the points make me want to switch .
- you can get better color grading .
- one time payment
- i have Dehancer for Resolve, which i would love to try tho .
