It's a scam. With this, companies can legally do away with paying workers social benefits and all that.
By working freelance, you are technically not their "employee," and so you have to take risks and pay for yourself and make your own office and give yourself the illusion that you are the "boss." Only a few people can seriously afford that. Just think about how few freelancers out of thousands make it out to comfort.
It goes well with the neoliberal propaganda that gaslights you into thinking that everything is up to you, the individual, when in fact poverty is systemic, by design.
The bgm though
Total vibe
Sponsored by the WEF? How undemocratic and agenda-pushing anti free-speech can you get in 2023? Just ask Julian Assange and Joe Rogan, TED is for the woke puppets who tow the line.
ОтветитьBriefly describe the origin of the word “freelancer”.
Ответитьso freelance gig workers are just unemplyed people too lazy to get a job.....thanks Ted
ОтветитьFor me, the first requirement of freelancing is having a house and a car fully paid off and covered by all possible types of insurance. The earnings may be small to non-existent at times, but at least I am sure about the roof over my head and general safety.
ОтветитьWorld economic forum 😒
ОтветитьYou better off
ОтветитьThere's a few things you can do to make things like Uber or Shipt a bit better, but it takes a little while to pay off. Namely, keep track of how much you drive both while working and not working, and then keep all the receipts you use for gas. The percentage of the miles you drive for work out of your total miles can be taken out of the money you spend on gas when you get your tax returns.
ОтветитьTurn the music down a little bit in the next videos.
Thank you for the good videos ted ed
Side Hustle life
ОтветитьI love the gig economy
ОтветитьThe music is a bit disturbing to be honest.
ОтветитьThis video made possible in collaboration with World Economic Forum 😑😑😑
ОтветитьOh god, corporate art style!!!
ОтветитьApply at kitchens. They’re always looking for dishwashers at least
Ответитьbeing on retainers while doing freelance work
ОтветитьProblems with the structured employment system is that employees are underpaid, overworked while employers are massively overpaid (I would cap at $500k including any benefits from the business) and in certain cases unnecessary for the day to day tasks of businesses.
I’d reckon the minimum salary that the lowest position should offer is no less than $10k per month and no less than $50 an hour not including benefits or any contributions.
In partnership with the WEF, that's me out!
ОтветитьWhen I was 16 I got interested in graphic design and learned about freelancing, but I thought it is specific just to graphic design. Today so many jobs can be done freelancing, but majority of them make no sense, since they were not meant to be done as freelance. Nature of graphic design is that you have many clients and don't need to rely on other people to do the job so it's perfect for independent contracting. But today we have nurses, doctors, architects doing freelance?? This is just a way for companies to cut costs under the pretense of flexibility, so that they don't have to pay extra for these employees. Nowadays to large extend the gig economy is just abuse of a typical worker.
ОтветитьIf you're working a chain of petty gigs from these cute apps, making less than minimum wage with zero employee protections, welcome to 99% of "the gig economy."
ОтветитьNo quotes?
ОтветитьThis movie was good for me.
ОтветитьAnything can be bought, even a Ted-Ed.
ОтветитьNice video.
ОтветитьImo a lot people rely on a gig economy to make it through their day-to-day life but don't put any real effort in finding a sustainable career that will last when they're old and/or pay for retirement. Avoid the low-skill job trap as much as possible.
Ответитьlegend has it that you need to get a job first to quit it.
ОтветитьWhat's this music in the beginning, it's so uplifting. Anyone got it's name?
Edit: it's in the description if anyone's wondering.
The theme is amaznig. The animation is impeccable!
ОтветитьYeah pretty much everything about the gig economy is the opposite of how I could function. I would be miserable.
ОтветитьThe forced representation in these animations is insane. I’ve seen only like 5 white characters. Crazy how 20% of America is representing over 90% of these characters
ОтветитьVery informative video. Well done. True facts. Don’t jump on it do your research. I am happy on my regular job. Freelancing not for me😅
ОтветитьMaybe this video was developed by a Freelancer. It's simply amazing.
ОтветитьI think we just need a post growth economy like maybe then we could more effectively work? blegh
ОтветитьI guess I have to
ОтветитьTed Ed do a video on wet dreams
ОтветитьInteresting to know where the "freelancing" term came from, I had never pondered on it before!
ОтветитьAs a freelancer artist, the most challenging thing isn't showing off skills that I have, it's finding people who are willing to pay me for my service.
Some people do not value my work and think that I have no cost [which I have equipment costs and electricity bills to pay, etc]
I meant if you're practicing something for decades to do a specific thing, and you think that came easily then imagine yourself reading a book, something that's not entertaining sometimes cause even artist has to practice a lot of things they're not good at so they can be good at them. do that minimum of 3 hours a day for more than 2 decades. if you can do that then you can tell me how easy it was.
What's important is
1. Skill
2. Marketing [which some people call them exposure, the more you have the more money you can charge}
3. Self-discipline, you don't have anyone to tell you when or where to work so you have to work on your own schedule meaning you have to plan everything accordingly and have enough discipline to go through with it.
The First 5 years might be difficult but the first 2 years for me were... horrifying and discouraging.
There's one word that I kept speaking in my head. Either I do this or I die. at least I die by my own choice and I won't regret it.
You might have to talk to your family about that as well as you won't get enough income to pay for your living hood so you might have to live with them for the time being as well.
Hi
ОтветитьNice safety net earning $12 per hour and having to work more hours than a traditional job.
No thank you. That's a safety trap.
The most difficult part is that one depends on others needing our skills/services, but when others charge less than oneself, the entire chain crumbles, I used to work as translator (Eng-Spa/Spa-Eng) with so many people charging so low rates, it is not as lucrative as it used to be 10 years ago
Ответитьi guess you were asked to discourage people from quitting their slavery in companies
ОтветитьThese videos are art: the sound, music narration, animation, visuals, aesthetics, and the content. Each Ted Ed has the potential to create a memorable and powerful experience. Thanks Ted Ed for the inspiration, personally, there is some videos that I will never forget.
