I understand the historical relevance of " Forbidden Planet " I have to say it's one of the most depressing , convoluted , anti climatic , unenjoyable , pseudo Shakespearian disappointments I've seen .

So glad I found this! I have always loved 50s sci fi movies! They are the best. Being in my 60s I’ve watched most of them on TV. I like your list, good job. I really like the Blob, but have trouble getting past Steve McQueen as a teenager. It just doesn’t work.

I remember war of the worlds and godzilla as having the most profound impact on me when i was a pre teen watching them from the livingroom floor while eating popcorn with margarine melted on it.

I highly recommend, if you can find a copy, the book "Keep Watching the Skies!: American Science Fiction Movies of the Fifties, The 21st Century Edition" by Bill Warren. It's an exhaustive labor of love that covers literally every SF film released in the U.S. in the 50's. But only the versions released in this country.

What about ‘The Monolith Monsters’? That was a unique approach which badly needs a remake! 😀

When you didn't put invasion of the Body Snacthers and didn't put The Day The Earth Stood Still at number one, I knew Forbidden Planet would be number one.

1950s, there is no apostrophe. It's a plural, not possessive.

No, I won't be listening to that loop of music for over half an hour. Why do people insist on doing this? I can't be the only one who hates this music trend. If I want to be driven crazy by repeating music, I'll call customer service and ask to be placed on hold.

I've watched a lot of top ten lists and was sometimes disappointed that something I liked wasn't included or got a low rating. Before watching the entries in this video I guessed what they might be. I got seven. As the video progressed I kept thinking, "Man, you'd better not forget Forbidden Planet " and was afraid that it might not be included in the list at all -- which would have ticked me off.

As I got to the end of #2, I chided myself for getting so prepared to have a fit. Then I saw the title for #1 and let out a loud "Yesssss!!!" Now I feel silly for caring that much, but this really was a good movie, and you gave it the credit it deserved. It was a great story and Walter Pidgeon was excellent as Dr. Morbius. The special effects were also superior for its time.

What added to the mystique of the movie was the musical score. It wasn't actually music, but tech-ish audio effects. I'm reminded of Andromeda Strain which did the same thing.

Now for a fun thing: anyone reading this so far, who would you cast as Dr. Morbius if the movie was re-made, today? It surprises me that it hasn't been. They did remakes of War of the Worlds, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Thing. Why not Forbidden Planet ?

All that having been said, I am surprised that you didn't include the 1954 Disney version of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

The Day The Earth Stood Still is my favorite movie because of the message it brings to earth. I also love a lot of others on this list.
