Standard bluray is made for hdtvs

720p 1080p 1440p acer monitors.

Hd bluray Looks like shit on 4k tvs That's why I had to go back on 1080p tvs And it looks much better on that kind of resolution than on a 4k tv or 4k monitor Cause It is the same resolution as has the 1080p bluray disc.

When I play a 4K disc as opposed to a Blu-ray, the picture is often much darker and I have to make big adjustments to my settings, mainly increase the contrast, and it still usually isn't as bright as the Blu-ray. Anyone have any suggestions for this or has tips on proper TV settings?

My main problem with 4k is it’s way way overpriced.

Double the width double the height = 4x more pixels. For every 1 pixel in FHD you now have 4 pixels in UHD.

So I just recently bought Resident Evil: Death Island on Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray UHD and I booted them up on my PS4 and PS5 to compare. I'm watching on an HDR capable 55 inch Hisense U8K that I bought recently. The picture quality is almost identical. The 4K only slight shows more facial detail on characters by like, slight more clear or prominent freckles or something. There's one thing the 4k version does that is worse and it kind of upsets me. The Blu-ray produces a higher brightness than the 4k Blu-ray. I thought it was the settings, but I literally have both images set up in the exact same way, the 4k one while being in the full HDR mode. I don't like this. The box even advertises the 4k UHD version as "brighter and sharper." It's honestly been very underwhelming in terms of movies. The 4k HDR UHD has only been impressive to me for gaming. Sad. If I'm doing something wrong, please do let me know.

Blu ray 3D format is better 😎

For example Avatar the Way of Water (and the first chapter) is better on blu ray 3D than 2D 4K

If I see a movie that I only kinda want, not a high priority, I’ll just buy the standard dvd, but if it’s one I loved, plan to watch again and again, I’ll buy the blu ray/4K

I am an old cartoons collector. I seriously would not update it all to 4k if they came out on 4k. I have these on dvd. DVD is still around. Some you can't get. I don't think they blue rays i own. I would throw away for 4k. I can't be updating my dvd and blue ray collection every 10 years just to see a better sword or get better music. All I care is about the movie itself. Very informative video. I bought warworlds on blue ray since i don't see much diffferencce between 4k and blue ray. But the 10 dollar xtra tag lol. Thank you. This video saved my life.

Questions:

1) Is 4K Ultra HD still considered to be a version of the Blu-Ray format technology?

2) I own a standard Blu-Ray player. Can I play 4K Ultra HD discs on it?

3) If the answer to question #2 is “Yes” - then will I lose any image or sound quality when playing a 4K Ultra HD disc on my standard Blu-Ray player?

1080p Blu-rays are primarily made for 1080p TVs, which have a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. These Blu-rays provide high-definition video and audio quality, offering a great viewing experience on standard HD televisions.

However, they can also be enjoyed on 4K TVs, which have a higher resolution of 3840x2160 pixels. When playing a 1080p Blu-ray on a 4K TV, the TV will upscale the content to fit its higher resolution. This means that while there might not be an increase in sharpness or detail compared to native 4K content, you can still enjoy the movie or show with good clarity and colors.

Keep in mind that for the best picture

I’d say the biggest incentive you have for upgrading to 4K is that you’ll get Dolby Atmos, which means the 4K UHD Blu Ray will finally be cinema quality. And the biggest incentive to go with 4K UHD for all new movies you’re adding to the collection is that you’ll get Dolby Atmos and also 4K.

I have finally learned something here . I have had terrible experience with 4k . I even sent my 4k version of "The Ten Commandmente" back to the seller because the colors were so bad and dark . But I NOW believe that it is my DVD player ! I got it second-hand and it was supposed to play 4k disc's . I thought that if my DVD player did not play 4k's it wouldn't play at ALL . But it did play the 4k but the quality is terrible . But I have been reading and listening to reviews about 4k's and their supposed to be so much better . But on my DVD player the colors are faded and the picture is dark, dark, dark . I am going to take a chance and buy another DVD player . Thank you so much for all of this information . It was very much appreciation . Bob "Ziggy" Anderson

Only buy a 4k disk if you love the movie, the standard blu ray disks are absolutely fine and much cheaper. Only upgrade to 4k if its on sale or you actually like the movie alot.

For example £1 blu ray disk secound hand vs £15 for 4k.. is it really worth that much difference?

It would be cool to have 4K to show off. But I'm fine with Blu Ray. It looks just as good in my eyes. The reason being I feel is because a format like blu ray is lossless. Like Audio CDs are. So if there is already no artifacting in the video and the audio is amazing sounding. Why go up to 4K? Other than to show off to others?

That's my take on this. I could possibly be wrong on the lossless part. So let me know what you think.

There's no benefit from watching 4K from far away from TV, and it's not just resolution, Bit-Rate is also as important. For me, a high Bit Rate DVD may look better than a 4K streaming service movie. Not to mention how expensive the 4K players are, Also not everyone can afford a 1000$+ HDR TV, In practice Most people are better let alone with SDR since HDR content on a non HDR supported TV looks like crap. So no thanks, I Love SDR & 1080p High Bit Rate Blueray and DVDs.

I notice low res in some 4k blu ray so it sometimes makes be feel i wasted my money. Some look really good then some others are extremely overhyped. For example home alone looks great in 4k but then i put the blu ray disc in and i actually couldn't tell the difference! Maybe im missing something. Recently watched harry potter trilogy in 4k and it didn't impress me, alot of the time i was focused more into the movie instead of inspecting the resolution in every scene. I buy most my movies in 4k and i noticed its usually the newer movies that benefit more, standard blu ray is such a steal for older movies because can be bought at a second hand store so cheap!

I only ever buy 4k if:
1. I don't already own the movie or show on any previous format
2. The item at the time of purchase is 20 dollars or less
3. The price of the 4k is no more than 5 dollars of the blu ray version

Honestly the difference in visual and audio quality isn't that large to justify breaking any of these rules

I'm happy with whatever my streaming service provides me these days. I've been around for too long and have spent a fortune upgrading from, vinyl to tape, to CD. I always wanted to enjoy either music or video at the best quality within monetary reason, but I've stopped collecting all media. That's just me. Next thing will be 8K then 16K, yada, yada, yada. Now I'm not putting anyone down who wants to collect physical media, it's just not for me anymore.

Being honest, I really have no interest in 4 K. No. It's not because I feel DVD is good enough. It's more that when I have the opportunity to watch something good, I need the flexibility of being able to play it on my DVD laptop or tablet. I think we're in an age now where portability trumps quality. It would be foolish not to take advantage of the DVD format that can be used on my laptop or tablet and that I can carry with me.

There are so many variables to the whole home cinema experience it's crazy. IMO, only a properly set up dedicated multi thousand dollar home theater may be able to actually see/hear the difference between a good BD vs a 4K movie. Anyway, I thought the "p" after say 1080 was a carryover from the old analog SD format. I remember "p" stood for Progressive scanning and "i" was for Interlaced scanning. I remember seeing an improved picture on my good ole tube set watching a DVD vs off air TV signals. It's because with a DVD (which mostly used progressive scanning), every trace line had information vs every other line with interlacing. Now, with digital, all that "i" and "p" stuff is history. Am I wrong?

Take care.
