I put my bread in the freezer, when it’s ready to use, use the softner on microwave for 30 seconds, then toast it. Good as new!

I make my own! Takes no time and minimal ingredients 😋 I’m sick of eating whatever this mess is…(it’s not feasible to keep bread fresh ) keep it in the freezer, thaw it out a few slices around a time, and it is perfect!

No no no! Bite a piece of that hard inedible crust and just start chewing. As it softens in your mouth a wonderful sweetness will start to emerge. Have faith. CHEW. Also, try a no-knead recipe, it stays fresh longer. Try Jenny Can Cook.

The other key difference with American sandwich bread is that it is incredibly high in added sugar, something which you don't find in sandwich bread in other countries. To me American bread tastes and feels a lot closer to brioche.

To make quality bread last, put it in a poly bag - ! I do this with the sourdough loaves I buy and it can last five or six days without any undue degradation.

They focus too much on a quick rise. It doesn't have to be quick, you just need to have more storage for the rising bread. Ooooh soooo difficult and expensive to have an extra storage building full of rising bread, no we put lots of extra chemicals in the bread instead.

My mother bakes her own bread, and it doesn't really go stale unless it's uncovered, and I cannot remember a single time it has started molding ever, in the 14 years of my life that I remember.

I don't like hard crusts, so I actually prefer cheap factory sandwich bread to "artisanal" (but probably still made in a factory, because of course it is) breads. One thing that's happened during my lifetime is that it's gotten a LOT more shelf stable. Sandwich bread used to get stale/moldy in about a week; but for the last decade or so they've seemed to stay just fine for two or even three weeks. I'm not sure exactly what's changed, but I'm not complaining.

@Cototto
@Cototto - 10.01.2024 13:56

Ciao! Actually... the 2 days old bread gets usually hard only on its external sliced face! Slice it off and the inside will still be alright and delicious. Yes, the crust also gets harder but that's a plus. And there are toasters, also invented to "fix" a hard slice of bread and make it more appealing texture-wise. Simple! But if you have been brainwashed for years that things must be extra sugary, extra cheesy, extra coloured and extra soft... then European breads will never do the job for you ;)
