If I understand it correctly you never found the drone. By using snapshots from the video 25 seconds apart it is possible to plot the drone course. Taking into consideration its speed (10Km/h = 2.7 meter/s) and its heights drop of about 27 meter during the 25 seconds you can do an estimate of where it land. Based on this I come to the conclusion that you looked in the wrong spot. The drone should be located in the big dense high tree cluster close to the gravel road. With the gravel road I mean the road with a U-turn (Circular) that also has as it seems a flat gravel parking lot. You were looking too far in from the gravel road around the “dead” tree as it seems. I tried to find your email address to send a picture of my graph without success.

i think i would do this test in sport mode. 1.: it can fly faster then 2.: sensors are turned off so i can save some additional power. // in the states should be a battery available with a higher capacity then in europe. the "european" holds only 34 minutes. i think on cold day the range is even higher because the air is thicker and you need less fans for cooling.

I was hoping you find it. Lost my drone in Vietnam a week ago. Fly out on the 25 floor of an apartment. Before it locks on satellite the wind took it around the building and all signals loss. Walk the ground for hours. Unable to locate it, now save up to get DJI 4 pro.

A built in noise maker would help. Bright fluorescent orange tape would help with finding them.

Would be cool if it could conserve enough battery so that there was a high frequency alert that could be emitted, similar to how Apple Watch Ultra has.

Looks like your drone at the bottom of the frame sitting on a branch at 59.45….. if you have not located it…. Would an Apple air pod make a difference in locating the drone when lost ?

Nice test. I advise attaching an AIR tag or SmartTag to the drone, so you can find your lost drone in woods, when you get close to it.

Fantastic video...gives me flashbacks to my drone falls from the sky.

My drone loses were with the mavic 1 and mavic 2mini for me....since those days ...with the new drones...only 2 adventures with the mini 3pro....

I was very lucky...I found all my mini3 pro falls and my mavic 1 one falls.
The mini 2....was never found...but I sent the logs to DJI and they stated it was not my fault and sent me a new drone even though it was out of warranty and no dji care.

I would love if you could go behind a tree or tilt the controller or turn around or get the drone to hover over/inbetween tress when it is that far out because we wanna know where the limit is :)

In the app it should give you last known GPS coordinates. That's how I got mine back. Plugged it into google maps and off I went.

Seems like painting it flourescent orange might be a good idea for the next time, grey is probably the worst colour to look for.

Question : In a search and rescue scenario, does the drones location ( the drone locates a subject ) show anywhere on the control module ?
ie, is current UTM or Lat / Lon show anywhere on the control module ?
Any info on this is appreciated.

Hey Dustin, your advanced settings will determine the drones behavior after the point of disconnect. You can manually select to have the drone either RTH, immediately decend, or hover.
So your drone may have plotted a course back to "home" for the remaining 3-5% battery life. Hope this helps you find the M4P

Those test needs a device like bt key finder

A cheap vifly buzzer would be cheap insurance for sure. And maybe some reflective tape on the arms

10% battery left. Basic math would be to use half of the 10% (5%) to fly further, half to fly back. Then of course save some for margin of error. You could also have a preplanned area to land in case you get in this tricky situation. Another idea would be to think about putting an Airtag on it. Seems like some people have no issues with an Airtag on drones.

woud be good if they could link up with the "what three words" app and give those as the last known location. Whether thats better than gps location though i dont know.

Just think how easy that would have been with a single apple airtag (or samsung if you're non binary) 😝🤣

I’m at the 1 hour mark and have the same feeling when I lost my mini 1. It’s the only thing I could afford. Lost it a year ago and honestly cried. I’d be devastated to lose something as expensive as a new drone :-(

Seems like using RTH is not the best way to push max range, since it forces obstacle avoidance sensors on. Manual flight would be most efficient.

Can’t the drone controller show the actual height of the drone over land ? That 5.6-5-9 feet is confusing while flying.

Very impressive edge limit testing on your battery. Thanks for sharing. The way you went to try ;locating was informative. I have had my drone stuck high in a tree once and only way to get it down was by throwing a stick at.
