In 1905, Mr. Alfred Buchi designed and build the turbo for redial engines so that airplanes could climb higher. Meanwhile, the first powered flight took place in 1912.

I really hope the future is in turbo hybrid systems I want to keep gas powered engines but I can see where the car market is going and why so I would atleast want that future instead of EV only

Bro I dropped out of college: electrical engineering just to pursue tuning. I started with programming and diagnostics so I can make some money to fund myself and you are blessing me with this education. Please continue this series brother you are a real motivation to keep learning this stuff. Although you didn’t touch on it, your videos got me very interested in the whole ideology behind this which is called mechatronics (which I plan to go back to school for; maybe ecu in Australia because they have dual degree for motor sports) for those who don’t know. Keep inspiring man much love from New York

Has anyone ever considered having a turbo shaft setup like on a inline four or six that bolts straight onto the exhaust manifold, so you have a small turbo connected on a shaft for every exhaust port, may have better heat distribution rather than concentration? Also if you have like a butterfly type shaft spindle it may deliver a more uniform boost more compatible with engine without lag?

I think the best turbo setup would be a turbo that feeds power directly into the crank via direct gear as your going to have to gear reduce maybe with a torque converter with computer controlled electric powered forced induction.

Biturbo, I think maybe it means "by-turbo" since it is a double turbo setup?

One would think that turbochargers are a more modern invention, and then you look into the history of their development and find out that inventors were messing around with them in the 1870s. Incredible to think that not long after the American Civil War, that somewhere dudes where strapping turbos to engines. Mind blowing.

It’s also incredible that the first flight the Wright Brothers took was in 1903, and yet only 2 years later the first practical turbo was patented for aircraft engines to overcome power loss at altitude. The rate of technological advancement, especially in the early 20th century is staggering. There were some absolutely brilliant minds at work all around the world.

I would say that the introduction of the wastegate in 1977 (Saab) and the PID controlled boost pressure in 1981 (Saab) massively contributed to the turbo evolution and improved engine behavior, quality and efficiency for daily usage.

I wonder what major innovations.there have been or potentially can be in large marine turbos since big cargo ships aren't going anywhere and need to do their job with less emissions.

Turbos are a must on a diesel, but are still troublesome on gasoline engines. Until manufacturers make turbos serviceable as spark plugs, they are costly and greatly reduce the reliability of the vehicle. Ford has gone very turbo. They are great fun, for a while. For now, I would rather have the larger naturally aspirated engine, especially in a pick up truck

Love the video but I need to say the reason carb before the turbo is unreliable is because it freezes the fuel and you get not regular delivery to all ports

The Germans also used water methanol injection to boost performance of their aircraft engines during WW2, either in 50/50 (MW50) or 70/30 (MW30) ratio. Allowed them to raise power by about 50%, and basically eliminate any issues with overheating.

I'm not sure if you mention this later, but the wait..wait..wait..boost thing is called boost threshold. Lag only occurs after boost is generated but before the manifold sees full pressure.

It's fascinating how turbo technology was pioneered in aviation and heavy industry before later being developed in the automotive industry. It seems like the centre

m advances shifted between different applications, namely aerospace, heavy industry, and then the consumer automobile market.

And then the technology was developed by different regions over time. You can see the centre of tech development shift from America to Europe and then Asia, and more recently into "internet world".
