Here's the thing. As a rule, burglars don't pick locks. The point of picking a lock is to open things without damaging them. The burglar is there to rip you off. He doesn't care if he tears up your property in the process.
Lockpicking is sort of a Zen thing. Only through practice can one develop the "feel" for it.
Most residential grade locks I've picked, I've used a simple rake or a bump key.
Commercial grade locks are made to last decades and built of better materials like solid brass, or nickel-silver, as opposed to residential hardware, which is generally made of Zamac (pot metal), thin steel and plastics.
Also, because high quality locks are made to closer tolerances, they are tougher to pick, as well. This calls for real picking skills, like single pin picking 😊
