As Priscus and Verus each drew out the contest
and the struggle between the pair long stood equal,
shouts loud and often sought discharge for the combatants.
But Titus obeyed his own law
(the law was that the bout go on without shield until a finger be raised).
What he could do, he did, often giving dishes and presents.
But an end to the even strife was found:
equal they fought, equal they yielded.
To both Titus sent wooden swords and to both palms.
Thus valor and skill had their reward.
This has happened under no prince but you, Titus:
two fought and both won

We were in Rome a few months ago and refused to go into the Colosseum as it should be respected as a grave site and with more reverence than that of the Vatican. Anyone can pray anywhere they want as it's is a private matter between them and God, where the Colosseum saw so much death yet treated as just another tourist trap and income for a corrupt government.

It never ceases to amaze how they employ actors that do NOT portray the appearance of the actual emperors. Nothing against the actors, but there are MANY busts of Trajan with a much different appearance and build. Other than that, a great presentation and glad to watch it.

I think the way the Romans perceived the gods and its relationship with them is quite rational. Romans were very spiritual. They wanted their favor and so built them temples. Old Roman forum is mostly a collection of temples for one god or another. Rome gave itself a leg up over other cultures it wanted to rule over by not staying devoted to only one god but a multiplicity of power sources from heaven. The more gods at home in Rome, the more luck and prosperity for Rome. So, all citizens were required to worship the gods. The Christians, initially, political outsiders used as scape goats, when they were persecuted. First by Nero for his burning the city down. Their standing was corrected over time but was initially seen as a threat to Roman spiritualism of heavenly power by with its monotheism, focusing on only one, seemingly weak and pathetic god that was nailed to a tree. Rome would not turn its back on its multitheism spiritual strength in numbers philosophy ingrained in its culture for centuries but melded the Christians in alongside the others. That all ended when Rome began to lose anyway and after the Third Jewish revolt discovered an advantage to Christian philosophy that Vespasian recognized and began an imperial endorsement of it allowing Christian church more dominance in Rome that continued for until Constantine made it the primary religion of Rome, even though he remained a pagan follower of Mithraism. It prevented civil revolts. Rome was sick and tired of revolts. The key to Christian survival in ancient Rome was this, "Love thine Enemy as thy Self." Which provided Roman Emperors a unique benefit, in that it damped civil strife resulting in revolts against them. Which is another reason why the emperor was so involved in developing the Bible in its present form. Sponsoring not one, but two conferences for its standardization. In fact, officially, the Roman Emperor was the Pope. He was Pontif Maximous until Rome fell. If one goes to Rome and visits the Catholic Church's and shrines, the similarity to Roman pagan temples is striking! The beautiful sacred apes holy of holies in the center similar to what one would have similarly in ancient times in the pagan temple of Jupiter. The buildings are beautiful, but one hard to assimilate to the spiritual perceptions and teaching of a Jewish carpenter that lived far away in the hinterlands of small villages of Palestine. Who owned nothing Probably why it is still called the Roman Catholic Church.

This episode show how politics are allowed to infect, change or lie about how our history is told. Its really really not a good thing. Western politics not only allow historians to make up ppl and happenings and/or overdue their meaning, western politics proactivily work to make it seem like todays politics has always been there. Its making history political correct, i actually lost bit of my interrest for reading modern books about history after this episode. Darn why!!

Man when you look at how brutal white Europeans treated each other throughout history it’s no wonder they were so vicious and demonic in their treatment of indigenous groups around the world. The Romans perished and were plagued by diseases like many of the early white civilizations were. The Black Moors saved them in 711 but when left to their own devices they simply lacked the ability to create a disease free sustainable progressive society. The building of America through 246 years of chattel slavery is another example of this. Without Black people there would be no America and all the starving down trodden European immigrants that came to America to benefit from the labor of Black people would have starved to death in Europe.

These early Roman Christian senators were certainly a bunch of hypocrites that in no way were living up to the supposed peaceful philosophy of Jesus! Much like so many of the so called Christian leaders of today ! Just business that has to be maintained as usual !

Of course the historical irony of all this is that there are No God's on either side as there is no evidence of such deities other than what has descended to us thru myths , fables and shamanistic inventions of the causes of phenomena to which the ancient seers determined were caused by supernatural agencies ( gods ) ! To which today we aught to know better thru our scientific discoveries of the natural world and cosmos ! We still as a Species have a lot of Growing Up to Do !
