5 Things I HATE about the Logitech Shifter for G29 & G920

is the shifter just usb?

It's funny I got a bit butt hurt watching this when I owned a g29 now I've upgraded to a t300rs I see all the flaws in the g29. It'll be funny if I ever upgrade to a DD wheel. I'll probably say the same about the t300rs

Personal opinion for me the downgrade is the worst part they can upgraded the material not downgrade it and the reverse think for me is worster because when i was in a tournament and i spinned out i tried and its getted into reverse after 3rd time and the gears are so close sometimes on a tournament at the start i switch 1 to 4th gear because its so close 10/7

Every car i have ever owned irl has been a manual, this shifter feels like trash to me... Theres basically zero resistance when shifting gears, it's extremely easy to shift into the wrong gear, gear 6 and reverse are the same except the push down which is extremely easy to do.... All round, in my experience, i think its a god awful shifter. I understand its just for gaming but they should have used stronger springs or some way to give it resistance when switching gears.


As someone who despises paddle shifters, i would rather use those than the Logitech stick

(Also if you take the plastic top off and bend one of the prongs slightly in it will make it sturdy

I mean it's a shifter. That's it, there is no reason to have the same amount of buttons on it as a nuclear power plant control room

You can mod it with an H style and there's some internal mod swap it out about $40 upgrade and new knob like a 95cm long tubular style for $10 still cheaper than a TH8a talking by $150 less and looks great and feels better than LT OEM sworn by most who did the mod. I get the TH8 is great! but for a budget LT G29 set up that's almost the cost for that, so makes no sense to get that.

I agree with you but the only shifter worth it is always more money like the club shifter and their are not a lot of people who know how to drive a standard so most of the games are in automatic

Headsup for everyone wanting to buy a budget shifter... If you have the patience to wait until the end of July, Thrustmaster is putting out the TH8S for 70 bucks. It's very likely going to have a better feel than the Logitech shifter. (You can use this shifter with any wheel on PC.)

I get that for someone that is really into sim racing, the shifter would feel toy like, but for me specifically, I only have a Driving Force Pro(Yes, I have a steering wheel that is 20 years old.) which is one of those steering wheels that only has a shifter that clicks back and forth. So for me, the G29 shifter feels unbelievably realistic for me.

Is it better to buy the usb shifter instead?

To be honest for the price i think its a great shifter. Its only 50 dollars brand new in Australia and a great budget option. The quality for that price is exceptional You can't really expect much for 50 dollars and the quality is more than i would expect for that price point

This shifter being so affordable was one of the big factors as to why I bought a G923 instead of spending extra for a T300RS GT

The thrustmaster shifter may be higher quality but its 120€ more expensive on top of the extra 90€ for the wheel

So even if its not great , for that price it will have to do

miss shift happened to me at first, but i got use to the shifter and it doesnt happen anymore. also the R is a pain sometime but its not that bad

It is $50. Of course it is a toy.

It does feel cheaply made, but then its only 30 bucks instead of a few hundred, and you can easily change the gear knob to one you like, and buy a 3D printed adapter with magnets to give it a better feel when changing gears

Dont forget the logitech products are supposed to be entry level not intermediate or pro

These things last a year at most. My second one just started hitting the shitter so I spent the money on the TH8A from Thrust master.


It's a longer throw, but has a sequential and 7 speed manual. It uses magnetic hall effect sensors which means that the only moving part is the stick itself, and there are no moving internal parts to wear down. It's genuinely made out of 99%, the only exception being trim pieces that don't affect anything reliability wise. Had the thing for 12 hours and the difference in quality is night and day.

I have a Logitech wheel and thought I could get a cheap usb shifter but realized it's for PC only. I can't get a thrustmaster so I customized the Logitech shifter. And put a stiffener along with a nice looking knob!

After 2 Years of usage the gear shifter holder on my metal stand broke off.
After a 30 minutes of usage it already bent 45° Wouldn't recommend the official g29 stand

Mostly agree is there any difference between the older generations and the last in terms of build quality, shift feel or faultiness? I'm happy it's available separately because I bought it dirt cheap used and use it with a T500RS wheel and with a DFGT before. They are available as a bundle with a wheel or was before. Not sure if TM sells the TH8A together with any wheel. I had an issue when some gears were recognised as different 2 instead of 4 etc... I've alligned it with a screw on the stick and it was fine but I've messed up my reverse completely and it's such a pain to disassemble and put together so I rather use the paddle shifter to engage reverse. For the shifting feel I've used a ghetto solution rubber bands made it feel nicer and I've used a sparco metal gear knob which is longer so the throws are longer and I like it better now, almost good but I almost could get a used TH8A for the price of everything. So it's not that bad now and I'm happy there is a cheap H shifter available.

Lots of mods out there for the driving Force Shifter like custom Sim Shop H-pattern improvement Spring Clixbeetle-GX & 3DRap mod Cambio V2 & V3.5 gated

trust me it's the worst shifter ever, after some hard core driving with it for 5 years, 3rd gear thinks it's actually 1st gear

With the g25 shifter existing there's no way I'm buying the g29 one. The switch between sequential and H-pattern would make a huge difference if I were to switch from rally to ets for example. I don't understand why I should pay more to get less.

all your opinions!! i just bought one from ebay for a full price of around $30 and i love it, it is what i needed to just cruise on my racing games with my g920 inverted pedals!!! just push straight down to go in reverse without moving into a gear🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
