PLAYBOX Walkthrough | Native Instruments

Absolutely in love with the sound and the plethora of really useful features. The only question I have right off the bat is this: why not allow the user to enter specific chords in real time directly from their MIDI controller or from a MIDI track in a DAW? I understand the importance of having the ability to use pre-programmed chords, especially for those who do not play musical instruments or have limited expertise in music theory/harmony etc. That said, when I have a specific chord progression in mind, I don't necessarily want to go through the extra step of programming the chords and mapping them to single keys or creating MIDI files and importing them into the instrument. Besides, if your song uses more than eight chords (which, I realize, is 2-3 times more than an average pop song would contain these days :), you would have to create another instance of the plugin. This is not a big deal, but it consumes time, CPU cycles, and kind of disrupts the creative flow. Otherwise, an amazing synth.

Just purchased loving the sounds is there a way to export the chords to midi ? Instead of just 1 single note.

I hate that every single thing NI makes is chord based maybe I wanna use it to make single note melodic sounds...spend 1k plus to be limited...aggravating to say the least

6 months in and this has become my go to track starter!

#1 It needs it's own controller.
#2 An FX bus maybe below Pan and Volume so we can cut reverb and delay for specific instruments. I filter frequencies at this point, but adding that would make this more incredible than it already is... Bravo NI!

strange demo, none of the results showcased here are usable.

sometimes when you press your midi key the ball on the xy pad moves. I cant seem to find that setting in order to turn it on.

So when i use playbox the xy pad doesnt change

I found this virtually useless when you use modes that are outside of major and minor keys. Honestly, I don't understand why plugin makers only cater to two modes. It's just odd... The tool has tonnes of potential but only if you stick to boring scale modes.

Elegant but Elephant in da room: Chord names?

Two questions— 1.) How do you save settings that you like, and use them later? 2.) Is there a way to undo a change and 3.) let's say I really like just two of the four layers, can I take 'out' the other layers?

Why do all the presets sound like a pillow in a blender? An out-of-tune pillow. What kind of music are you supposed to make with this? At least the visuals are fitting.

This looks much more pleasant to use than Corg Wavestate.

If I make loops using PlayBox, is that my loop? Or did I just sample Playbox?

SoundPaint can do some great audio manipulation = it imports samples and its free!

Love this plugin, is there any way to use the sounds as one shots that without the chord generator like any other plugin? Sounds are so beautiful and as much as this is perfect against beatblock , using sounds normally would be an amazing feature

Hey guys I'm pretty new at this thing and it's really funny to experiment.
However, on the Samples section I cannot figure out a way - if I don't like a certain sound, how to remove it ? It only seems to be a way to Replace it ? Also the opposite, what if I would like to have 4 sounds on Only one button instead of all 8 ? Is that possible too ?

This is peculiar. NI made a huge investment in the Blocks architecture for Reaktor a few years ago with the promise of an innovative open architecture to support new instruments and FX. Now it's completely forgotten, not even mentioned in the Komplete 14 promo. Instead we get toys like Playbox built on the Kontakt platform. I could ALMOST see it if Kontakt 7, which is coming as a late addition to Komplete 14 was a radical new platform that enabled technical possibilities not possible with Blocks. But the Kontakt 7 promo promises little more than a UI update, and to make matters even more perplexing Playbox, with its art museum worthy UI but monolithic tinkly sound doesn't even require it. It's built on Kontakt 6.7.1. Meanwhile bedrock instruments like Absynth are discontinued and Battery hasn't seen an update in many, many years. NI is truly going for quantity over quality, and has an incoherent development roadmap It's a damn shame.

I guess I'm old skool, but after messing with this for awhile I had to dial up a monark preset & actually play a riff .... much more satisfying than playbox

Sounds very Native Instruments'y.

I like the sounds. My only criticism is that I wish there was an option to not use the chord feature so that I can play my own chords or notes without having to go through the extra step of programming it with the piano feature. Some of the sounds are great to where I would like to use them as lead sounds. In that regard it’s limiting. Great for people who aren’t keyboard players but it isn’t friendly to those who are keyboard players.

Is it included in komplete 13 collector’s edition?

for some reason i cant load it into maschine. just individual sounds. of course there is no tutorial that starts you at the beginning with setting it up.

Am I missing something? Can you just not play it like a synth? I have to use defined chords and can’t play it on the fly?

Loving this plugin. Can each sample be routed on to its own track? It would be great to be able to process each sample note of the chord.
