Sorry, you need to change the title of this video. HMAS CANBERRA is not a LIGHT AIRCRAFT CARRIER. HMAS CANBERRA is a LHD (LANDING DOCK HEAVY). Her flight deck isn’t rated for STOL. She doesn’t have a catapult system. The ski ramp on the bow was left there because it would cost too much to redesign it and maintain strength.

Not an aircraft carrier. The ramp is not used it was part of the hull design we bought and it was cheaper to leave it on. Maybe it will get used someday?

It’s not an aircraft carrier, it’s a LPD. Although it is bigger than the RANs last carrier HMAS Melbourne which was decommissioned in the early 1980s.

Great ships, but pathetic politics did not allow these to be true aircraft carriers like the spanish sister ships. Poor call on every front.

The R.A.N. needs to upgrade this class of ship as Japan, Turkey, Spain, Italy are doing with their LHD's to carry F35b's. Having the Canberra go to war is like sending a car ferry into a war zone with a couple of army helicopters aboard. The Canberra class needs upgrading like other nations are doing with their LHD.s. Depending upon other warships for offensive & defensive action is not the best option. Now is the time to fix these issues as the Asian region is now becoming more dangerous & threatening to Australian. Our Navy brass need to get off their well paid glamorous seats & do the right thing by the Australian nation.
