Love the watch, but for us "older guys," we need the reminder of the date. Missing that....
ОтветитьBest till next generation
ОтветитьI was dead set on getting an Omega Speedy next, but tried on the Tudor Black Bay Chrono reverse panda, and it just looked so much better on my wrist.
ОтветитьSapphire has metal applied Omega logo.
ОтветитьRelatively new to watches so don't bag on me. LOL. But if it's a closed case back who cares about the movement? A modified ETA does an amazing job and just seems that movement upgrades and all that with a closed case back seems like a waste of beautiful technology as it's not visible and also just raises the cost... What's the deal with the horology crew on this?
ОтветитьHow many links do you have left on your bracelet on each side?
ОтветитьI have a Speedmaster made in 1969, the first reference with the caliber 861. I also have several other (younger) chronographs of different brands, and the Speedy has been more reliable than all my other chronographs. If you rotate between a few watches in your collection, you can service it only once every decade or so, and the watch will easily outlive the owner.
A vintage Speedy has only one weakness, and that is the lack of water resistance. Other than that, it's an everyday watch. I use mine regularly.
I am a Daytona guy, but always loved the Speedy. Today I tried on the 3861 version in moonshine gold and green dial/bezel. I thought I would love it, but ended up immediately not liking it. Why? It’s the dial layout, where my eyes were offended by what I can only describe as the dial minute track forcing the subdials inward, making them look uncomfortably pushed too close towards the middle of the dial. I can’t unsee that dial compression, which spoils the watch for me. Lovely movement, great green color, but can’t get over that dial, which wearing highlights more than I pick up in any picture of video.
ОтветитьI just got my SS on bracelet on 10.7.23 and I am very pleased with it. I have wanted a "Moonwatch" since the 70's and it looks like my timing is excellent. The 3861 with all its technical / mechanical advancements is amazing. The new 5 link melt on your wrist bracelet with the recently introduced on the fly micro length adjustment. The new stepped dial, lume, domed hands, dot over 90, etc... is close to perfection. I chose the SS because of the durability and the open case back. I love to look at the movement. I am very pleased. It set me back USD 8,000 and is a tremendous value. Oh, yeah did I say it is beautiful. A classy, humble beautiful.
ОтветитьDoes it irk you that we didn't actually go to the moon?? I want this watch, but the moon landing story is a farce, and so is the marketing.
ОтветитьOmega saying you can swim with it because 30m means 30m under water! Did you try it?
ОтветитьExcellent reporting. Thanks
ОтветитьAnd as of today it starts at 7.500€ 💀(at least here in France).
ОтветитьGreat video!
ОтветитьThanks for the video. I got a Speedmaster Co-Axial 9300 (with 2 Counter and 44,25mm) and Saphire Sandwich. Now its too big for me and i checked out the Moonwatch; now the sane configuration is 7.400 EUR. That’s really a big jump in the last 2 years, and exactly 1.000€ more than in 2021. It hurts.
ОтветитьThanks for this interesting video. I actually just ordered the exact same model, and it is the first speedmaster of my collection. As I live in a hot country where I go to the beach very often, I was wondering how often would I be able to wear my speedy. Honestly, I tend to be quite careless with my watches as sports watches are - to me - meant to be worn in all types of context. I will apply the same rule to my Speedy, and I hope I won't regret it.
I am adding that I decided to go for this model with the aim to become a "one-watch guy" (which I am very far from), so I really expect it to tick all the cases.
Thanks for your input! You never mention what caliber is that? Im new to Omega but how can you distinguish the haselite crystal vs sapphire? Thanks
ОтветитьThank you for the review, as i'm still researching the Column Wheel (vertical clutch) vs Cam Lever (horizontal clutch) systems, do you notice that this 3861 skips when the chronograph is engaged?
ОтветитьGreat watch but how bout the WR
ОтветитьA completely useless review. I expected to hear positives and negatives from a person who actually wore it on his arm for a whole year, but there was only retold information that everyone knows.
ОтветитьJust got the Hesalite version. I love it, but I am not as big a fan of the bracelet as I thought I would be. In my opinion it tapers more than it should, almost appearing dainty on the wrist. Due to the small size of the clasp it is difficult to take on and off when sized for my 7 3/8 inch wrist- it just doesn’t open quite enough. It also needs at least one more micro adjust position. I am a fan of the smaller links, but it makes sizing adjustment difficult for me, I found that the micro adjust spacing was just about equal to adding/removing a link. Other than those details it is fantastic. Since there is no polish on the bracelet it is quickly becoming my durable everyday piece. I also miss viewing the movement because of the closed case back- perhaps Omega should make a sapphire exhibition back available for purchase…
ОтветитьOverprüced
ОтветитьWho in their right mind goes swimming wearing a 15 thousand dollar watch anyway!! These are things of beauty that should be looked after carefully not abused in swimming pools.
ОтветитьThe only Watch you need, Omega Moonwatch and Rolex Submariner. That‘s it.
ОтветитьI am really pondering pulling the trigger on the sapphire sandwich at nigh on 20% below list price from my AD, who has just lost that status due to Swatch Group getting in to bed with WoS Group and stitching up loyal independents like him 😡
Though that said I am resisting till I see what this big reveal is that Omega are going to drop day after tomorrow(26/01) but chances are I’ll finally be a fully paid up member of the Speedy Club in 48 hours.
Fair play for taking the patch off the sleeve on your Stoney sweater by the way, you know when you know 😉
Thanks so much. I'm in the market for such watch....I love the way this watch looks, and I was trying to make a decision on this watch or the Seamaster 300 M. I like the way this Moonwatch looks with hasalite, but I since it will be my first Omega I think I will go with the saphire glass.
ОтветитьI have the 3861 and the 9300 steel version, same as the todays ceramics but it isn't produced anymore. I just love the 3861 more and the bracelet is great, at least for me.
ОтветитьWell, the last Speedmaster was also the last one that was affordable. Therefore the FOiS is particularly amazing, as it has the also the vintage case.
ОтветитьGreat review, thanks. I always thought the older bracelet did not really fit. I had the same one on a Seamaster from 2005 and didn't like it there either.
ОтветитьNot a big fan of skinny strap but good overall
ОтветитьWhere is that spaceman model from?
ОтветитьNicely done, thank you for posting the video. Of course one can say that they sapphire version is not entirely faithful to the original. So I wonder when Omega is going to do a hesalite crystal version with a stepped dial that has also an applied logo. Would that be that hard?
Anyway the watch needs no introduction as it is so rich of history. But since Omega has produced the famous 321 movement again I guess they could also case that movement in such a steel case, with a stepped dial, dot over 90, hesalite crystal and applied logo, then you would have the closest to the original as possible.
One more thing, don't you think that now that the 321 movement is again into production, the 861 has actually become the most rare of all? After all it was only produced for a couple of years, from 1968/9 until 1971/2.
Short and sweet!
ОтветитьIf you didn't have the moonshine gold moonwatch and have to have only one watch rest of your life, would it still be sapphire or hesalite version?
ОтветитьFor me, the Speedy Pro is the Porsche 911 of watches.
ОтветитьI bought this when it came out and was so excited to get it. But when I opened it up, what a disappointment . The tiny bracelet tapers down to 15 mm. 15!! I felt so cheated like I was sold a women’s watch. Also the watch just looks and feels cheap . Especially the action of the pushers felt like a kids toy. Can’t believe the price they sell it for.
ОтветитьWonderful video! I’m currently saving up for one. I probably have 2-3 more years of saving, but I believe it’s worth it.
What would be your 2nd favorite iteration of the Speedmaster? Thank you!
And another 500 euros, fuk omega I swap back to team Rolex, greedy bastards
ОтветитьThey increased the price from €7.600,- to €8.100,- on the 1st of September 2022. The no date Sub is €8.500,-.
I would go with the no date Sub and pay the extra €400,- (if availability wasn’t an issue of course). I can imagine other people shifting the same way after the recent price increase. Even though the watches are different, they share a lot of similarities.
Treated myself to this exact version of the new Speedy for my 50th birthday in 2021, and I'm still in love with it a year later. Considering selling lots of watches from my collection because they just don't get wrist time anymore with this beauty hardly ever getting put in the box.
ОтветитьI don´t get the obsession with the speedy......a so called must have watch for every collector.......so I got one as well and sold it after 2 years of owning it.....I wore it less and less.....until I just stopped wearing it.....it turned out to be a pretty boring and dull watch for me....and winding it every day, oh what a pain.....pulling out the crown to set the time, oh so uncomfortable and annoying how that crown sits, could have broken my fingernails on it......I´m so glad I sold it and didn´t regret for a second.
But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...so enjoy it :-)
I have the Hesalite crystal w/ the Sapphire caseback and the 1863 movement, my 1st "luxury" watch which will never part with.
ОтветитьIs the crown still fucked up to wind? I sold my 2018 because it would take me forever to hit 45 turns for full wind.
Funny, my Panerai is effortless too wind at full charge
You like this or the Seamaster 300 heritage better?
ОтветитьHave you experienced the stoppage problem? Apparently it's due to one of the bushings not being made out of correct material.
The new ones from end of 2021 and 2022 should have the new bushing installed from the factory.
If you don't use the chronograph often you probably won't notice it, as it usually stops after 20+ minutes of running the chrono
Everyone needs a Speedy.
ОтветитьI dont know.. to me this vid is about to beg omega for a snoopy, the watch isnt that good as an allrounder aswell as the one and only watch as f.i. the submariner is, this is just a beging vid
ОтветитьOne of the most iconic stunning timepieces ever made.
