Sorcerers are my least favorite classes in 5E. Yes, even lower than PHB Beast Master Ranger. They need an expanded spell list.

Someone needs to explain to me why a character that can inherently cast magic needs to do verbal and somatic component s like a wizard does to access the magic forces. All Sorcs should have the subtle meta magic 24/7 IMHO. Empower is a joke meta magic. Ohh you get to add a few more hit points of damage (maybe). Careful meta magic--worthless, be an evoker and get it all the time with every spell. Sorcs are only there for roleplay, but in every situation, you are better playing with a wizard if for nothing else, more versatility and ritual magic. Sorcs should get the elemental affinity feat as a meta magic so that they could overcome resistances, that might be worth the trade-offs.

Question, if you say have a 2 level dip into sorcerer with the metamagic adept feat, that means you have 2 sorcery points and 2 sorcery points that can only be uded for metamgic.

If you say transfer a 3rd level spell to regain 5 sorcery points and you expended all of them already, would you be able to regain 2 (just the points from the class dip) or 4 (2 from the class dip and 2 from the feat but you may only use those two on metamagic and say can't turn them into a first level spell)

Cause I can't really find an answer lol

Protip on Subtle spell: It is the only way you can cast Counterspell without being countered. Or if you just ABSOLUTELY need to cast Teleport to send the McGuffin somewhere safe, add subtle spell and you will be sure that the BBEG can't counterspell you.

I might be late on party, but few comments that could be helpful.
DSS-Sorlock and extended Aid or Death Ward before long rest is worth of mentioning and if you manage to get Astral Shard subtle spell is must
-> mobility you get by subtly Shielding first hit makes huge difference on encounter (also Absorb Elements would if enemy starts with elemental damage).

I think what Metamagic you choose is partially reliant on your subclass.

Draconic bloodlines tend to focus on one type of elemental damage, so Transmuted Spell (for when you face an enemy resistant or immune to your damage type) and Empowered Spell are really good, but a subclass like Aberrant Mind which uses a lot of Psychic damage wouldn’t be able to use Transmuted Spell on most of their spells.

Aberrant Mind Sorcerers also get Subtle Spell for many of their spells as a feature, so they don’t need it as a Metamagic as much.

Extended spell is completely busted on clockwork or divine sorcerers due to their access to cleric spells like aid
If you extended before a long rest you can give your party deathwards and aid hp increase after the rest your team has pre fight buffs for more of the day

Quickened spell is amazing. I like it as almost a cunning action for sorcerers. You can use your action to disengage or dash and still cast a spell or cantrip with your bonus action. Greatly brings up mobility.
