Why is horse meat so taboo in some countries?

I used to have respect for Jamie Oliver, but now, he's just another prat with no idea how it is for working families. I'd like to see how he managed on the average British weekly wage, living in an average suburban home without all the veggie gardens and other home grown amenities he enjoys. See how well he can cope then, with the cost of living what it is these days.

Jamie Oliver is just another one of those people growing so utterly detached from what real life is like for 99.9% of humans that he's becoming insufferable.

I live in Sweden and yes, for me it's VERY much a choice between eating "unhealthy" or not at all. Fresh fruit and veg has skyrocketed in price. Same with fish, chicken, eggs, milk... ALL of it! Add to that my ill health, and you have a perfect storm of having to eat cheap foods... And whilst our food standards are very high in Sweden, I'm wracked with guilt just fine without some Capitalistic cunt telling me I'm a bad person for not cooking everything from scratch.

Surely the biggest supermarket scandal is the crazy bonuses the big wigs award themselves. Literally million year on year while we, the idiot consumers buy the cheap items so we can afford to eat a meal and heat our homes.

Perhaps ASDA thought they could get away with a poor pay rise, by relying on staff discounts. A very wrong thing to do.
Nothing wrong with the principal of multiply buys; it's just what they are offered on, better to offer on cheap fresh fruit, vegetables, basic grocery and hosehold necessities and cheap fish and meat, than junk food. Oddly chemists like Boots do multiply buys on basic cosmetic items like antiperspirants and toothpaste, and no one complains, so it's clear that cheap junk food is the problem.

Maybe some beef then some horse, pig, dog, cat, rat, raccoon, snake .... whatever is available, that's what you are eating. Think before you buy you morons. It's your own damn fault.

most companies sell their good produce to cheaper stores and good quality food and drinks ,some of the food that you do not buy goes to other companies to be mashed up and mixed into food for pigs or other animals at the zoo
some stores have a box where you can buy and donate food
sometimes it is best to research some facts before the emotional process kicks in and having a rant
some people on low wages or benefits go to these shops a few go else where for a quick fix
down to the individual in how they budget
these middle class lefties are the worst they cry out ofr the poor to be helped but they use a mouth but not there own money to help or take actions themselves .
yes it is hard but depending on the situation there is families and friends alike do not go for loans as it will not be a fix only get you in a bigger hole
look out for your options

Surely, with regards to food wastage, if you have a product in your store, you order 100 and sell 5 and throw 95 away, but when it's 50% cheaper you only throw away 5.

You have 2 choices, don't stock the product so you don't get any losses, OR if you're going to keep the product and are OK with chucking it away, simply lower the price, its a damn site better than writing it off as wastage.

Marks and Spencers only targeted Aldi for their catapiller cake because they thought Aldi is a easy target and M&S completely forgot that other grocery stores had similar catapiller cakes.

I think Jamie Oliver had good intentions about wanting the country eating healthy, he is greatly out of touch. Due to a number of people couldn't afford certain healthy food items due to the people being poor, the inflation of the prices of the food, the country going into another recession and certain number of food products are pricey (IE food that are claimed to be organic & specialized food stores (Whole Foods/Holland & Barrett's)).
