wow how many years did i go without knowing about this tool !!!! Thanks for sharing
ОтветитьI bought the Southwire affordable version, but it doesn't show the instructions on how to use the fuse lead on the testing probe. Any ideas? I don't know how to use this device. I have a fuse that keeps popping my parking lights, so I'm not sure where to put the testing lead? In the breaker fuse box?
ОтветитьThat's looking for an open not a short
Ответить$100 !!!!
hahahaha, F that!
Junk..... don't buy it. It won't work .
Ответитьgood info
ОтветитьWhere can I purchase that tool
ОтветитьIndonesia hdr
ОтветитьJust so happens I do LV cabling; however, because I'm also restoring a 1992 Toyota ST185, I will use this method to troubleshoot engine / body wiring harness issues if they arise. Great idea, thumbs up!
TRUST !!
I know this is years later. But could I use this device for a motorcycle wiring harness?
ОтветитьThis is meaningful material. A book I read with congruent topics was a milestone. "A Life Unplugged: Reclaiming Reality in a Digital Age" by Theodore Blaze
ОтветитьOk. I’ll plead ignorance. How do you know where the shirt is. I just heard a lot of noice but what’s the difference when the short is found? Thanks.
ОтветитьExcellent video, Brian!
ОтветитьYou didn't really tell me how to find the break in the line.
ОтветитьI have to probe my car, and was turned onto these types of tools. But now I know, that’s not great for probing
ОтветитьI wish you would demonstrate finding a short circuit
ОтветитьShort and open are two different things, you seem to have confused them. You are demonstrating open circuits , not shorts.
ОтветитьWhat's the name of the tool?
ОтветитьI am not so good with electric things, but I am trying to find a short circuit on my car, how should I do with this tool? Because the video shows how to find an open circuit, wich is not my case. Thanks!
ОтветитьThese have gotten WAY cheaper! Under $20.
ОтветитьTerrible video haha. The example of see it stops beeping as you’re moving it a foot away from the wiring harness baha
ОтветитьBut how does it find short? Signal everywhere....
ОтветитьI have a version of this tool made by another brand and did not think to use it. Bought to locate wires behind walls and it served its purpose Harbor freight has this tool for under 30 bucks.
ОтветитьCan you use this device to find short or broken wire in the house? My garage door shocks me when it rains
ОтветитьWould this work to find shorts in an electric fence?
ОтветитьWait... can I use this on a wiring harness ON my bike? And how effective would it be?
ОтветитьGuess this is a good way if you can get to the harness.
ОтветитьI've learned a lot of things as an electrician but I never thought to use a toner to find a short because whether it was commercial/residential electrical automotive electrical, I never had to find many shorts.
I like using this example the best. If a surgeon can open someone's brain or heart and put it back together, then they must be very "smart" or "intelligent" right?
But if they can do that but they don't know how to change a flat tire, does that really make them smart? Just because they learned our were taught how to do one thing well, it just makes them good at that thing but not necessarily smart or intelligent by any means.
This young kid that worked at our gun part manufacturing/CNC warehouse was the programmer for the CNC machines and was by far the smartest kid in the room. He was autistic and has Asperger's too.
With that being said, he did so many stupid things, you wouldn't believe he was as smart as he was if you didn't already know.
Watch a video called, "college students can't answer basic questions," and you'll see what I mean.
Hi Brian: Please show us how the tool works to locate the short. I have a situation that the wires are partially shorted and small amount of current crosses. I want to locate the short instead of tearing up the wall.
ОтветитьHA Aliexpress has for 1/5 th the pr. Different brand but probably made in the same factory!
ОтветитьIf you turn down the volume on the tool, it would work a lot better.
ОтветитьI need a few more beers to understand this.
ОтветитьHello thanks for the video and help. I have a quick question. Will this allow me to find a ground short in my wiring in my harness. Since it’s not a break it just has a short?
ОтветитьAs a retired Electrician with over 50 years in the trade I would find this just another useless tool. The sound would drive me crazy. Just a light would be enough.
ОтветитьThank you! :)
ОтветитьThanks for posting this.........wow 12 years ago......I have missed out on having this tool in the Automotive trade............Clayton
ОтветитьYou didn't show how tne tool fiound the bad spot or the problem
ОтветитьGreat tool Brian 🙌 I will buy my own because I trace lots of shorts on trucks at my shop
ОтветитьThank you!
Ответитьall this tool does is trace a wire. This tool can't be used to efficiently test for open circuits in bundled wiring. This tool can't ID shorts , no way. I use a tool similar to this all the time. In the industry this tool is known as a tracer.
ОтветитьYes…
great video / great tool
Just not very accurate..
ОтветитьGreat tool and very intelligent outro. I respect the want for feedback
ОтветитьI like your direct no nonsense style. thanks
ОтветитьTool name?
ОтветитьI use my toner often to find shorts
ОтветитьIt is not a short …… it is an open ……. A short blows a fuse. ….. an open is a break in the circuit ………
ОтветитьAlthough I don’t think it would be my go to tool, I can certainly think of times and places it would work well.
ОтветитьThe first one like I ever saw was the Power Probe one, I believe the ECT3000 (too lazy to look it up right now). Anywhere comment on how this one compares to the Power Probe?
Ответитьi beleive my car door harness is shorting out my alternator because it affects my alternator in my 99 trans am it s some where in my door idk mabe its my alternator but it does charge up n start after sitting
