I Should NEVER Have Listened To Your TERRIBLE Linux Idea...

Just wanted to quickly clarify the whole ctrl + D vs ctrl + U thing. I did initially use ctrl+u to set up booting off a USB. Once I did that, it didn’t want to boot off the USB because I didn’t correctly set up the boot media. Which is really hard to make for specific ARM based Chromebooks, like I explained at the end of the video. It was only then that one of the guides to me to use ctrl + D, which confused me and all the shouting started. 😅 Oh, also remember bots are bad, mkay.

I have been dealing with a similar situation recently on a Lenovo AMD based Chromebook I bought after seeing the exact same Lenovo page on installing Linux. My fault for taking it at face value and not seeing your video on this one until now. :)

I don't know how good ARM support is on Linux. If you aren't used to installing Linux already, you made your first experience way worse than it had to be.

Just once for a new gaming build try Mint, Fedora, or Garuda. I'll bet you have a way better experience, even on several modern titles. Unless you like everything exactly as Windows does it.

I went through the same thing just trying to install the arduino IDE natively (Get out of here with your web environment). I ended up using crouton to run linux simultaneously. Which worked perfectly until someone pressed space bar on startup and wiped the entire computer while I wasn't there. Because a big white screen that says "PRESS SPACE BAR" is a brilliant idea google. Thanks for that. Months of work gone. Lesson in regular backups, etc. I have a toughbook from 2008 running linux mint and I'm happy. The keyboard died on the chromebook shortly after it got wiped, so it's been reduced to spotify duty at work now.

Chromebook is already using 'Lie Nux,' because Chrome OS uses the Linux kernel.

Like. You coudnt pick the worst device to install Linux on. I know. Linux run on a potato. But a ARM Chromebook with a random low end CPU, you can make it work? Maybe. But its not gonna go well at all... You probably get more luck on that celeron "gaming" pc that fits on yohr hand...

Also, forget Steam. Steam won't work on arm (with exception, and this Chromebook is not one of them).

Honestly if you got a cheap Celeron Chromebook you will have some chance to make it useful. A ARM one? It's useless as it seem.

ChromeOS is closer to linux than Android is to linux these days. Incredibly nice to google to basically just release a google flavored linux pc.

Amen to this video! I have an arm based chrome. It is a mess dealing with Linux on the arm processor. So frustrating that it will make you hate Linux.
However, I have put Linux on many non arm processors with no problems at all. Still not a full Linux, but good

I have tried to get linux on a arm and even an intel chromebook, neither worked.

This video is closer to a anti chrome book video than a anti linux video because besides the one problem I also have with linux that being many instructions by random people on the internet not working. This installation process requiring a computer science degree is the fault of the chrome book.

Installed Linux on a Chromebox 3 (N65)
I even managed to install Windows 10
I followed mrchromebox steps which allows you to flash the UEFI to a generic UEFI and boot from any bootable USB. Works like a charm I must say.
Having said that, the machine is back to ChromeOS, gave it to my 9y old daughter with a external screen, pink bluetooth mouse and Keyboard.

Linux is one big "arduous process". It sucks.

It somehow makes me feel good inside knowing that Dawid is just as capable at "doing Linux" as I am. (Sorry Dawid)...

Debian has ported 3 levels of it op/sys to work with ARM. 2 with 32 bit systems and one with the 64 bit newer systems. Perhaps using Debian will solve your problem.
