They say Sinead O'Conner's version of this song is the best, but after listening to this here rendition, I'm not so sure ...

Kudos to Ireland, Foggy Dew is a great song, especially this version, it represents the gracious Irish spirit of defiance. To us Macedonians especially it is valued because we feal connected since early 20th century when Roger Casement has supported our Macedonian St Elias uprising of 1903, and Macedonian liberation from the Ottoman Empire. We are proud for Ireland's success, especially that remembrance and admiration is alive today in the city of Bitola, because Ireland has thrived, but Macedonia is still struggling with the consequences, since it was divided in 1912 by Greece, Serbia and Bulgaria, Christian neighbors that proved to be even greater despots and tyrants for Macedonians than the Muslim Ottomans. Erin go Bragh!

My favorite part; T'was better to die neath an Irish sky than at Suvla or Sud El Bar

Sud El Bar (Seddülbahir) and Suvla is site for the landing at by the British during first world war. (in Çanakkale/Turkey)

we said then too; Canakkale is impassable.

Greetings to the free people of Ireland. People should not die anywhere other than their own homeland.

If you don't know how to play the irish song - just give it to The Dubliners. And they will do it great.

Lyrics:

It was down the glen one Easter morn to a city fair rode I.
There Armed lines of marching men in squadrons passed me by.
No fife did hum, nor battle drum, did sound its dread tattoo.
But the Angelus bell o'er the Liffey swell rang out through the foggy dew.

Right proudly high over Dublin Town they hung out the flag of war.
'Twas better to die 'neath an Irish sky than at Sulva or Sud El Bar.
And from the plains of Royal Meath, strong men came hurrying through.
While Britannia's Huns, with their long range guns, sailed in by the foggy dew.

'Twas England bade our Wild Geese go, that small nations might be free.
But their lonely graves are by Sulva's waves or the fringe of the Great North Sea.
Oh, had they died by Pearse's side or fought with Cathal Brugha,
Their names we would keep where the Fenians sleep, 'neath the shroud of the foggy dew.

But the bravest fell, and the solemn bell rang mournfully and clear,
For those who died that Eastertide in the springtime of the year.
And the world did gaze, in deep amaze, at those stout-hearted men, but few,
Who bore the fight that freedom's light might shine through the foggy dew.

Back to the glen I rode again, and my heart with grief was sore.
For I parted with those valiant men, I never will see no more.
And to and fro in my dreams I will go, I'll kneel and I'll pray for you,
Oh, slavery fled, ye rebel dead, when ye fell 'neath the foggy dew.

Quando scompariranno loro fino all'ultimo Dubliners ancora in attività, chissà se come nella migliore tradizione folklorica Irlandese andranno a riposare nel Sidhe, come i loro magici e mitologici antenati Tuatha De Danann!!!

Great job boys, absolute class as always! I just think it's such a shame that Canon O'Neill when he wrote the song mentioned "The MEN" at least 4 times, but the WOMEN of the Rising = ZERO times. All honour to those great women of Cumman na mBan and the ICA, may their courage and loyalty to the cause during the struggle for freedom never be forgotten...God bless you all Ladies.❤
