You gotta check out Christian Guerrero as a vocalist! He's the only singer I've ever seen that can easily transition from a rich, smooth, luscious tamber into heavy distortion and back in a single note. It's honestly one of the craziest things I've ever seen live.

I’m so excited to see the results of this research. I wish I could afford the $750 tier. I would love to have my gutturals growls and screams analyzed.

Would be cool to get Tom Keifer (from Cinderella) involved. He lost his voice twice and was told he'd never sing again even after surgery. He spent years going to every vocal coach he could find and learn as much as he could and he's now back to 100% vocal health, can still hit all the notes from his old Cinderella songs.

Regarding your voice study have a look at a beat boxer called D-Low . What he does is extraordinary. Seriously how he makes sounds using all soft pallets tongue throat etc etc is beyond belief . He would be a great subject in the study .

It might be worth reaching out to Sam Riegel of @criticalrole who's recently gone through throat cancer treatment and has spoken about how it's affected his voice. As a voice actor and musical theatre performer, there could be a lot of ways in which in which his pre- and post-surgery vocals could contribute to this research.

Elizabeth, I may have found another line of research for you. I had a bad cold over the weekend, and noticed that my speaking voice was quite a bit lower than normal. I checked on the piano, and much to my surprise my range was over an octave lower than usual. I am only 5'6", but I was in Geoff Castellucci territory. I don't know how much of the effect was caused by thickened mucus, and how much was caused by the cough drops I was consuming, but it occurred to me that if it was the cough drops, this could be a trick for basses to hit those low notes, especially at the end of the day when the range loses those lowest notes due to fatigue.

Libby Lux of Bridge City Sinners may be someone you want to see about studying. She goes from almost theatrical singing to blood curdling screams with little effort. Check out the live version of The Legend of Olag Hai.

Distorsion can really improve clean singing, every time i Scream for a bit my clean singing voice and speaking voice gets clearer some how
