I was just watching this movie today. My 3rd time actually. I can’t choose between Sleepless in Seattle or You’ve Got Mail. And yet seeing Tom & Meg in this scene makes me think how tough it is these days to find a nice fluffy romcom. And I’m not just talking about the two leads star billing. It’s not the only essential ingredient. This movie is as sweet as pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving.

There are almost no Bookstores anymore. Borders closed and there are just a few Barnes and Nbles Bookstores left- at least in NYC There are maybe a few Independent Bookstores left.

So good to see Meg Ryan when she looked like Meg Ryan. These 2 could've done 10 movies together an I would've watched them all.

For what it's worth, Fox Books stores are closed now thanks to Jeff Bezos.

Even in 1998 $350K in annual sales wouldn’t pay for the inventory, rent, staff, and leave enough to pay for Kathleen’s lovely apartment.

This is the gold standard in chemistry for romantic comedy. It’s what most movies lack.

In a few years both of them were wiped out by the internet and e-books so their argument was about bupkis.

The ironic thing about this whole movie is that ultimately, the book superstore idea didn't last long and Joe Fox will be the one out business in 10 years.

I think Joe is a bum, never like him, never will. A real scumbag.

I'm in my 40s, and I keep thinking of 1998 and this movie as not that long ago, because I remember everything so vividly. But watching this movie now, 24 years later, it does seem dated. Not in a bad way mind you, but you can tell it's very late 90s.
