Thanks for having me Wired, it was an absolute delight to answer some questions! Hope people enjoy this one, and I’m super curious what everyone’s favourite question was? (And what is left that still needs an answer!?)
ОтветитьOn the subject of putting milk and sugar in tea, the two ingredients almost have a similar affect on tea as they do for coffee. It applies more to black and green teas (or matcha in this case) as those two types of tea often produce bitter earthy flavors, especially when they get over-brewed. Milk adds a pleasant, smooth, creamy flavor and mouth feel to tea, which is why milk is often used in Chai and Boba drinks. Sugar is used differently in tea to help emphasize the flavor across the different types of tea seen through out the world. As a lot of people may know, if black and green teas are brewed properly, they will have light earthy or herbal flavors and shouldn't require adding milk and sugar unless someone is making specialty drinks like chai, boba, or latte's. By the way, I am not a trained professional, just a passionate drinker of both tea and coffee.
ОтветитьDon’t humour the kiwis, James - we invented the flat white. Also the Pavlova.
Russell Crowe is all their fault, however.
If I want more caffeine per ounce drink light roast and even taste better just put a lot of coffee into the Brewer and now you have supercharged caffeine😂🎉
ОтветитьBro needs to try Ecuadorian coffee
ОтветитьMy Italian ground espresso (I think it was Lavazza) actually said on the package to keep it in the fridge. Even though people thought I was bananas when I actually did it.
ОтветитьYou said there was good instant coffee out there, but you didn't name names. We need to know what kind of instant coffee brand(s) you think is good.
Ответитьi used to drink tea or coffee before going to bed before i had knowledge of caffine and that you cant sleep after it and i started drinking it in high school to stay up but it wasnt much use except feeling warm and woke Energy drinks works better
ОтветитьAs a coffee and milk drinker, I add milk because it helps the coffee sit better on my stomach. Less acidity.
ОтветитьI grew up poor in a small town of Mexico. we couldn’t afford many things so we would plant our vegetables and raise farm animals like chicken and kill a chicken on the rare occasion we ate meat in meals. We also couldn’t afford to buy milk nor did we have room for a cow so my grandma would give us a cup of coffee to go with our breakfast. In mexico your parents had to bring you lunch at school so my grandma would make use a Torta with another cup of coffee. We were in like kindergarten. She made good coffee. one time she made a pot of coffee and left it unsupervised and I drank the whole thing and got in trouble. I’m 31 now and coffee doesn’t do squat to me. I drink 5 cups (20oz) each everyday. Surprisingly I don’t get headaches when I go some days without caffeine. I drink coffee for the taste. I can’t do energy drinks though they are gross.
ОтветитьI like taste of the coffee, but for some reasons it gives me anxiety..!!
Ответитьhis poshness tickles me
ОтветитьThe main reason why people don't like coffee at first is because bitterness is instinctively associated with poison. You need to drink it a few times for your brain to learn that it's not poison. Same goes with beer, grapefruit, etc.
ОтветитьI can answer the "when to give your kid coffee" question. I started drinking it daily at 5 years old (my father, and I are both sailors). If you do that, 1 of 2 things will happen. Your kid will grow up absolutely hating coffee, or will end up traveling around the world like I do to find new coffee's to try. You can find crazy coffee's with butter in them etc...
ОтветитьThis man's hair is impeccable! That level of hair game is well beyond my pay grade. I'm not gonna lie, I wouldn't be able to tell you which questions were asked after the one regarding temperature...😂😂
ОтветитьIf they have PhD in coffee studies....
ОтветитьGrinder is the single greatest investment that have radically changed the quality of my daily cup.

ОтветитьWeird coffee person
ОтветитьI broke my aeropress and in getting a new one found the price jumped up to 45$ i was pissed, are they really back down to 25 or did target scam me?
ОтветитьI loved this!
ОтветитьI enjoyed this!
ОтветитьWhy is Community Coffee so much smoother and tastier than the rest?
ОтветитьIntelligent video, thank you. Are you allowed to mention any of the instant coffees you have enjoyed?
ОтветитьThank you for fueling my coffee pedantry. Good stuff.
Ответить35g : 600ml H2O, paper flat
ОтветитьThe temperature my coffee is at, when I am having it, is the ideal one and it keeps changing. Duh!
ОтветитьIt's what now in France? C'est Espresso.
ОтветитьOh wow there are so many great questions and great job for answering those Q!
Ответить"Coffee is good for the heart."
Me: Hmm. Interesting. (drinks 7th mug of coffee of the day while palpitating)
Neurodivergent people, particularly ADHD but I've anecdotally seen it in an autistic relative that doesn't have ADHD, can have weird paradoxical reactions to caffeine? Personally, a strong cup of black coffee can make me quite drowsy.
Caffeine can interfere with ADHD medication, though, so I haven't had any strong black coffee in a fair while.
Whoever typed those twitter replies as "James Hoffman", in the corner of the screen, clearly wasn't listening to what James actually said.
Ответитьthis is the video that started my journey to the coffee rabbit hole man
ОтветитьGet a sub-gram scale, tho. Some kitchen scales don't have that sort of acuity
ОтветитьThat syphon brewer was definitively first done by a chemist whose coffee maker failed. I't basically just a buchner funnel over a standard round bottom flask with a heating mantle.
ОтветитьVery informative and interesting James, thanks. But please stop saying a bunch of for every collective noun. You're not American.
ОтветитьLearned a lot. And it was delightful. Thank you.
ОтветитьI love the dookie part :D It's part of my daily routine. Really make my morning duties smooth and quick, almost refreshing :D
ОтветитьI love him so much already lol, so knowledgeable!! At first I was like who is James Hoffman when searching things about coffee... but as I try to learn more about coffee and him, I didn't know he was a world barista champion or some sort.
ОтветитьWatching this video at night when I can’t go make a cup of coffee is a bit tragic. Also, where can I find more of this man?
ОтветитьLove you so much, James. Thank you for your knowledgeable gifts!
ОтветитьIn terms of re-heating coffee in the microwave, I might say that the jury may be out, a little bit, in this one.
I would say, try it. If you hate it, don't do it again.
In terms of his point about cold brew coffee vs iced coffee....
Cold brew tends to be much, much smoother than iced coffee. Just sayin'.
The best instant coffees that I have had is anything by Starbucks and Blue Bottle.
