As crazy as it sounds... Going from a 13700K to a 14900K might be worth it with a 4090, since it's possible on the same motherboard. I sometimes struggle to get full usage on it at 3440x1440 with a 7950X. Except in new games with RT. In Cyberpunk for example it's still 100% GPU limited.

I upgraded my 13900k to a 14700k. Honestly it feels slower.

Rumors expects that next intel socket will hold 2-3gen. Until 2026.
Do you guys think that move from 5800x. To 15600, with a high end mobo, to get 16900 or 17900 would be a good move?

Having seen the reviews, for 14th gen, I would say stick with the 13700k, and hold off for next year's chip releases.

The 14th gen appears to not be much if any of a upgrade Vs 13th. I’m still plugging away on a 10850k and 3080 happily at 1440p 240hz monitor. When I think of upgrading then look at cost vs % of upgrade I say no way.

Not the best answer. If Jacob is concerned about bottleneck and like many people here doesn't really know how it works. Without waiting for reviews, almost for sure 14900K won't give him more than 15% more fps than 13700K. The thing is, only when bottlenecked and man won't even notice 15% fps difference. Also being bottlenecked isn't bad by itself, but it's fine until you are satisfied with framerate you get - if somebody is satisfied with 40 fps, for now he will get it from 4090 paired with 9900K. Other things with 14900K upgarde are higher multicore performance and potential smoothness coming from more cores, but if he was about it, he would have 13900K now. Plus stop overusing point with ,,if you have money for $X card, you have money for $X anything" - it stops making sense the moment somebody ask you question about something being WORTH IT and he knows better if he has such money or not ;)

Excellent advice with great knowledge. I've got a strix 4090 and a ovelclocked 13900k on water at 6.2ghz still bottlenecked lol

I think the statement of reaching 6ghz is not complete, on single core would of completed that statement. 13th gen is at the same speck as it newer brother for the 900 model, 5 fps for a few seconds is not worth it. I think the rumored Nvidia Refresh might get you more of a bump then upgrading from 13700k to 14900k. But, I will wait for tomorrow to see if they really made a good step

I miss XD. Don’t all keep in contact? As for the 14900k as much as I’m itching to upgrade my 10850k I’m waiting for 15 and 16th gen. I don’t wear a skirt but I want it to seem like I’m wearing one with my next upgrade.

But doesn’t frame gen mean that you can let the GPU make up for the limitations of the CPU?

Regardless of which way he wants to upgrade, tell him to wait for Black Friday and Cyber Monday which is around the corner.

If you're not using a 3-$1000 monitor setup or a 50"+ $10k TV, 4k is the 2nd biggest nothing burger after Ray tracing 😇
I just want to sensible upgrade path from a 3070 that doesn't cost $1,600!

If you're gaming on a 4090 then you should be running whatever CPU is the fastest available.

Going from 13700k to 14900k is only worth it if you have top end graphics card

I guess if the gentleman with a 13700K and an RTX 4090 should move to the 14900K then I should as well. I have an all core 5.2Ghz 12900K with an RTX 4090 and was debating to go with the 14900K or go sideways and build a Ryzen 7950X3D system. The Ryzen motherboard will last longer and I will probably move on to the 8000 Series when that becomes available. I swore I would switch to AMD after the last Intel microcode update for "supposed" security threats, it nerfed my 12900K. I was able to get 5.3 to 5.4Ghz with 4Ghz E-cores when it first came out. I would get a score of 900/12575 in CPU-Z, now after the microcode update it stays at 854 Single thread and 11798 in multithread. I can even raise it to 5.3Ghz and the score will not change. Reminds me how Apple got caught slowing their phones down so their customer base would have to upgrade their phones. Thank you for your programming, another great episode.

I've got a 10700k with 4090 on a 4k 144Hz lg monitor. I'm not sure I see a point in getting a 14gen just for 4k gaming. Sunken cost fallacy a bit to spend more now when next year the 4090 will still pair great with 15th gen
