Chimerism is pretty common in plants. Besides their is a case in judicial hostory called Lydia Fairchild case in which a women almost lost her 3 children custody because she had this condition and none of her babies has her DNA.

Does anyone know where to go or how to detect if you have chimerism? I mean is there a test you can do to be sure? I have two different colored skin on my right leg and I always thought they are normal from birth! But after seeing this, I am not so sure anymore!

Tragic how people insist and insist she is in fact two people. Having two sets of DNA doesn't really mean anything in that discussion. Identical twins share 100% of their DNA....are they one person. Should they get a show where they preach how they share one passport?
An embryo isn't in any way equal to a person. Taking a morning after pill doesn't make you a murderer (as it can abort an embryo is some cases) and an embryo doesn't per definition have a heartbeat or a brain.
So tell me about the person that doesn't have a brain or heartbeat, but you found some DNA laying around somewhere.

I also have an obsession of being a twin. I still have until now. Especially when my mom had an accident when 5 months pregnant and lost lots of blood. I turned-out okay, but I used to wonder if I had a twin who got miscarried during the accident. I used to dream if twin babies.

She's a chimera. For her to say, "I am my twin," isn't accurate. She has throughout various parts of her body her own DNA and her twin's DNA.

I didn't know where this was going from the title but the moment they showed her stomach, I knew. I immediately thought of the chimera cats. I've never seen it in humans though!

I have the same kind of pigmentation on my both arms.... Since birth i have this birthmark. At first no-one noticed it but when i grew up a, i was first one to notice, and i told my mom about it, my mom said, its nothing, its just tanning... You skin is tanned due to sun-rays... But even after 7 year i have them, so i went to a close friend's family doctor and he told me to get my blood checked... I did and i found out that i have chimerism.

I just learned about Chimera today. It blows my mind that a Mother actually absorbs the cells from her babies into her organs. I also read about this situation where a guy who suffered from serious drug addiction issues throughout his life, was left handed and right footed, he found out he had this condition, he apparently also suffered from autoimmune issues because his hair was falling out in patches. My kids are twins, it makes me wonder if they in the womb, could have absorbed some of each other’s cells? Maybe this can explain the closeness between twins in life. This really is absolutely fascinating. I’m so happy that this young lady was able to get to the answers and improve her health!

Everyone says “this is cool”. And whilst on paper its very special. Its also kind of scary, if she didnt figure it out her health would decline further and further over time as her body effectively attacked itself. Hopefully she is on a medication to help her immune system cope with the differences that is her body.

I am not a medical professional I am very likely speak nonsense, but I am curious, hence there are 2 immune systems is it possible to remove one of them by bone marrow removal (chemo, radiation etc) and than replacement with her own bone marrow from dominant immune system. I imagine that some bones have the right bone marrow for dominant twin , while the other one are coming from more parasitical one.
