Proprietary software wasn't a serious societal problem until the internet became commonly used. Privacy invasion through telemetry is the real crime against humanity. Closed source code simply can't be verified not to contain privacy invasion.

It wasnt stolen. It was given to them while we were ignored even though we were screaming from the sidelines... Ignored as usual by people that think they are smarter than everyone else. Let me tell you, if you think you are smarter you aren't. Sorry. There is always someone smarter than you, and if you really are the smartest then someone bigger will come along and get you anyways. There is always something there that can knock you off the pedestal. Fucking morons, all of us.

bringing bad actors down would be very easy in this case. But here we see clearly the double standards applied. It is very painful to watch American history tellers because they only know half the truth and ignore the important international players. Luckily the world is not the USA and only very few learned something from the self inflicted hypnosis of the Americans. They promote competition instead of collaboration, turning everything into a fight and emotionally charged counter reactions. Endless. But also try to organize the free minds into a senseful counter movement and you see how this branch is for real from the inside. Hackers have never done anything for the good of society although some tried it and than got hypnotized by a pile of dollars.

If data has value, tech giants owe us money, maybe they could start by paying their fair share in taxes ?

Completely bizarre & simplistic take on historical events. Government contributions to technology is barely worth mentioning, everything useful was developed by the private sector, intel, Microsoft, Apple, etc or open source maintained by an army of volunteers
Not to mention that Starlink, government idiots couldn’t achieve anything like that if they had 10 lifetimes.
Non tech people have no idea how much time, cost and effort goes into writing good quality software.
Silicon Valley is satanic though I do agree.

They know the Internet was stolen,
they sell it to CCP of mainland China because they don't believe CCP will hang them dead with the ropes.
Samsung and Korea are mostly infiltrated and watch out about TSMC and Apple.

Why? $$$ - money from lobbyists to Senators and congressmen who sit on plum committees who decide our futures (did you know a Senator has to PAY to get a seat on a committee? What does THAT produce?) . For one…

Really mundane voiceover. It’s like someone woke him up at 3am and said, “record it now.”

Get some bite, bro. Report on edgy subjects with some edge. No one wants to get onboard with a meek, damp rag…

It's too late. It started when Google figured out how to mine us for data and no one stopped them.. not the government and not the users. At first the government had power over them, but it was no time at all before they saw the incredible opportunity available and not only embraced it, but took advantage of/created any reasoning necessary to make it legal to do so. There is no way the powers that be are going to give up the biggest and best surveillance system in the history of the world. Already it's impossible to unplug and live a normal life. I have no doubt within my lifetime they will find a way to make it mandatory to participate. We created our own dystopia.

I got into this game in 86 and by 95 the 1-800 game was big and pagers lost their luster to flip-phones. By 96-99 I had developed a life-style marketing vehicle that moved from fuzzy gif images to jpg which would levolor-blind in slowly @14.4 on a dial-up modem. I got recruited into corporate America and rubbed elbows. Sadly I missed the potential and vision. Now I exist in the margins. It was 01 when the bubble burst and I walked away from it all. I am truly sorry for any role I may have played to have helped to release this evil upon the planet. I too believed in Googles message of “don’t be evil”. And I like that message, left. It will not end good. It will not end good. Poof! goes the soul at the click of a button. Just so ya know… “WE LIVE in PUBLIC”.

Built my own z80 baased microcomputer back in 1977 and wrote my own graphical processing language that handled object oriented objects that one selected and knew how to interface with main code intuitively, also hacked msdos to create stdos graphical 3d, and later when html came out investigated vrml and x3d codes, i remember a world before bill gates, and i became a software analyst, gave it all up watch just watch the internet putrify and software quality get worse all the old aspirations have vanished in favour of commercialism and porn, its not what i dreampt would become of it,
are pockets of creativity and quality but only on the fringes. All hail the wide wacky web i guess
