I assume two accounts = having a back-up (that still has followers) when you get reported too much for spam, and Insta starts to agree and bans one.

I would guess the second account is for when the first gets blocked.

In reference to the story about “Sandy”..

I’ve known several people involved in MLM’s, which is why the business(es) have caught my attention on more than one occasion as a way to make money for my family.

And, you see a lot of them posting (status updates/captions on their photos) that they don’t/can’t care what other people say or think about their business. And, you shouldn’t either. “You just gotta go for it and take the risk! It could change your life!” So sad.

Like I said, just last year, there were TWO different companies I looked into working for. Thankfully, I couldn’t afford to sign up. 😅

Well we are in our 20s-30s and realizing we're never going to get a retirement too. Unfortunately these MLMs look more appealing when regular employment sucks too. Companies today also feel that they owe you nothing.

Several years ago, I tried Optavia as a diet and it worked. Lost 15 pounds in 4 months. Fell for being a coach a year later due to my second job loss. Being a coach was so cringe and I hated posting to FB platitudes, asking open ended questions and references about weight. Stopped coaching a year after that and only had two clients. But I am still mystified about how those coaches made the big bucks and would find clients. I did everything right and did not get clients. Any MLM is not for the faint of heart

I think the 2 Instagram thing could be in case someone unfollows you or unfriends you.

The rescue who I adopted my cats from, waived their adoption fee, because the cats would get to stay together.

I am a part of the LadyBoss community and it is not unusual to get fitness friends through there to support each other with our fitness journies. One I had accepted a friend request from started off with friendly small talk. Then they went into their spiel about ItWorks. Asking if i wanted to make extra income. I told them I work at the railroad making 6 figures so needed none. She kept badgering me so I had to block them. It got so bad the admin of my fitness group they had to issue a statement for people to cease trying to sell things in the group. It is pretty sad.

Hannah, re: the retirement through an MLM. I'm curious if the social security benefits would be the same as someone who worked a salary position? Not to mention missing 401k and other health saving benefits. A close friend whose 70, wants to work a couple more years at a salaried role because this would give her much greater benefits both with 401k and her Social Security. But SS is based off how much you pay in, right? If you are in an MLM and you are paying more into the product than what you receive, wouldn't this impact your retirement and social security benefits?

Literally the only reason I post about my work trips is I’m in the travel industry so the point is to share the locations 😂 But when I worked in corporate or a non profit, it never occurred to me to do that with any trips I was sent on.

My cats were buy one get one free too and my BOGO cat is also a big personality (a calico, go figure 😅) and I can’t imagine life without her ❤

i think the people caught up in these schemes appear to be inherently respectful, kind, and friendly because they represent some of the most vulnerable or naive parts of society. You can’t rope somebody into a pyramid scheme if they are naturally critical, judgmental, and pessimistically discerning. Those simply are not the people you are going to drag into a scheme. I realize that’s a negative outlook but I wonder if there is some truth to it. Gullible people tend to be “nice” people.

I was catching up on episodes, not fully listening when I hear Vancouver Island! I didn't even know we had Arbonne salespeople in the area. Lots of Pampered Chef and Epicure, but apparently I've thus far dodged the worst of it. Yeesh!

Wow 7 times before you accept "no?" That's soooo disrespectful.

My wife knew better than me and got involved with several MLMs before she finally realized she was basically working for free. But me and our little ones were without a mother because she was spending all her time "hustling" online. We didn't even need extra money, but my wife felt pressured to try to make money to be worth something. These companies are so predatory and tell women lies to get them interested.

I was in an MLM company years ago for a quick 6 months or so. One of the “quotes” I would hear time and time again was…”fake it until you make it”.
This was one of the reasons why I got out of this MLM and never looked back!

I'm surprised Arbonne's retirement or willable aspect wasn't mentioned in the comments. I was with Arbonne for years and at an area manager level, you can have your business be willable, I think down to 3 generations

Can confirm that adopting two cats at once is the best. I have a pair of sisters that were also born at the shelter (and also free lol) and they're absolutely wonderful.

You get multiple accounts because you can only send so many unsolicited messages in a specific time period. I didn't do Insta when I was in Amway, but I did hit the limit on Facebook once. I never got a second account but I know people did. Also some social platforms allow "report spam" and too many of those will suspend an account. Instead of waiting for the "pause" to be removed, some would create a new one.

I share a bed with both my coworkers all the time. Of course, that’s my husband and my dog. And I am legitimately self-employed, no MLM involved.

my assumption as to why she's messaging from both accounts is because if you send too many messages at once, you get blocked from sending messages for an hour or longer.

That’s EXACTLY how we ended up with my favorite cat Schmidt (don’t tell the others!! 😉) We wanted his sister, Holly, and the lady told us she was Schmidt’s buddy. He was the runt and the other boys in the litter rejected him. She offered us a similar deal and we took it (I would have taken him anyway. He stole our hearts.) Best decision ever. (I love all of our cats. But Schmidt is extra special to me.)

The coaching and meetings are a big deal for Scamway, too. Downlines are encouraged to buy motivational tapes if they're struggling - and the tapes are a product, so it further insulates Amway from pyramid accusations.

I probably take more photos with my phone than are "normal," but I have two kids and they just grow up so fast. I was also married to someone who NEVER took photos of me with the kids, so I think I'm making up for lost time!

The only reason I can think of for having 2 mlm-run accounts is maybe to do A/B testing? Post the same post with different captions or different photos with the same captions or different mixes of photos, reels, and stories to see which is performing better?

I wonder if the double Instagram accounts are because there's a messaging limit you can send from one account during a certain period of time, right?

Look I'm against mlms but the person from story 2 comes off a bit creepy/smug taking zoomed in photos of strangers and speaking as if they're practically subhuman
