The main question is not which uses more or less ram, but actually, which version is more stable than the other. [ Yes, stable ]
ОтветитьThanks for explanations, versions of Linux for a new user is always confusing thing!
ОтветитьMy first Linux experience was with RedHat Linux 5.2. I may still have the box the floppies came in. Most current experience is with Ubuntu.
I'm going with Debian.
You gave no information about the differences other than this one takes less resources than this one which takes less resources than this one, based on that anyone with a brain would just choose xfce but of course to make a actual informed decision you'd have to know what you failed to mention and that is exactly what are you giving up by choosing the ones that are less resource intensive as you didn't say anything about this this video is basically useless
ОтветитьMaté is actually a tea drink in Uruguay. I don't know why the Linux Mint people decided to use it as their moniker for one of their three distros. BTW, I am disappointed that Cinnamon does not have the fun screen savers that Xfce and Maté have. Thank you for your fun video!
ОтветитьI discovered Mint, Bodhi, Kali and Ubuntu in the same week in 2012. I stuck with Mint and Kali to this day.
ОтветитьAlso how big of a deal is the HHD vs SSD for mint? My HDD is 2tb anyways but just wondering if the type itself matters or the capacity is the issue.
ОтветитьLOL "start mining bitcoin". The other day I opened my download folder (windows) and see a file I didn't download. I check properties and signature. It was some crypto company lol. Although the signature was not authenticated, so may not have anything to do with that company. Point is this is why I'm switching to Linux lol. I'm still gonna run AV on my Linux though. Just to feel better. I don't really download stuff from browsers and if this is true that the mint team vets everything they put in their app store, then I shouldn't need to worry. But it still feels better to scan stuff.
Ответитьhey
i'm currently using Mate but it slows down laptop when i do browsing on brave browser
even SSD & 6gm ram is installed
should i go for XFCE ?
Linux meh
Ответитьxfce can connect to cloud like google/microsoft? mate can? (cinnamon can)
ОтветитьFirst time i watch this video on your channel and it is very informative, polished and easy to understand. thank you m8
ОтветитьCinnamon has a resource leak of some kind. There's a common bug that's unsolved where Cinnamon uses a huge amount of CPU.
Ответитьif you're a newbie at this, I recommend making an automatic, clean install.. and don't do a manual partitioning.
I did that and my first Mint experience was even slower than windows 😅
I have some hardware left from the time that I was mining. Intel Gold G6400, 8gb ram DDR4 3200mhz and an NVME Disk. What is recommended for that hardware? The machine will be used mostly for browsing and some light photo editing.
Ответитьany recommendations for me ! gt710 - i5 4590 T 8gb ram ! ( i want to play some games like rocket league and farlight )
Ответить17 minutes and I learned next to nothing from this video. I already knew Xfce was the lightest. But what are the substantial differences between these OSes? Does Cinnamon have some core feature(s) that Xfce or MATE don't? That's what people need to know.
I don't need a 17 minute video that is basically, "this one's faster than this one, try it and see what you like." I could have come to that conclusion on my own.
I'm watching this video so I don't have to install an OS, realize it doesn't have something I want, then change again.
Installed it but used the OEM option and didn't verify the ISO as it was tooooo complicated. Please advise and shall I reinstall like you say?
ОтветитьI successfully run Cinnamon Mint on an HP Stream PC13. It has judt 2Mb ram and a 32Gb SSD. It runs perfectly.
ОтветитьHow can somebody be skinny and fat at the same time?
ОтветитьMy favourite after 8 years is xfce. I tried MATE and cinnamon and they crashed. I have been with Xfce for the past 5 years❤
ОтветитьMate is very good desktop enviorment
ОтветитьI am new to Linux. If you want to get another desktop like KDE can you choose it rather than those three?
Ответитьi recommend mate
ОтветитьDon't forget about their new Debian-based option. It's likely to be the one that takes over as Canonical de-emphasizes their end-user desktop efforts.
ОтветитьDereck Taylor, Thank you very much for the wonderful overview and history of the Linux Mint Editions and their Desktop environments, and to boot I learned I new overviews of Linux Mint. Subscribed
ОтветитьBut... muh KDE?
ОтветитьThe "once upon a time" KDE .
But , my favorite flavor is "Matè" ... And i like the right pronunciation of it .
Does Ubuntu or Mint cinnemon Need more CPU Ressources,? I have enough RAM and an SSD but an Pentium 6200 :)
ОтветитьThank you very much for such a good video. Keep up the good work!
ОтветитьHey folks! Turn your old computers into Linux machines! I just installed Mint Cinnamon 21.1 version 5.6.7 on a 2013 ASUS Q500A with an Intel i7-3632QM (4 cores, 2.20 Ghz) + integrated graphics, 8gb RAM,, and it runs incredible when compared to Windows 10, which had been turning it into a brick with every subsequent windows update. It's certainly still a little slow, and I wish I had looked a little harder at which version to get because I bet it would feel like a rocket with a lighter flavor of Mint. Revive your old hardware! I don't regret it, and neither will you!
ОтветитьXfce is a way of life!
Ответить10 year old machines can easily run cinnamon. If you don't have a quad core, maybe prefer xfce.
ОтветитьI would probably run the xfce Linux 🐧🖥️. My windows 7 Tower keeps crashing with blue screen error, & I've had technical tech savvy & looks like 10 is killing my windows 7 medion Tower which was bought from Aldi, in the 2-year warranty is had the tower since 2009. & Windows 10 is very sloppy, I use to be happy with 32-bit in windows XP ran like bloody vortex, if Linux ran that 32-bit I would feel right at home and be very happy Linux looks a little bit like XP service pack 3. My best bet will probably be xfce Linux Mint 🐧. Vanessa Linux Mint. But I've practise a bit in chrome book 📖 terminal commands 👍🏿 Audacity software runs fast. It only took me less then five minutes to install in Linux tool 📚📖. Terminal Commands are great but being informed by wine 🍷 which can help U install fl studio 9.
Ответитьxfce
Ответить🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣ur linux uses 700 mb i just started taskmanager and my windows uses 5.4Gb🤣🤣
danm...
Hi. I just want to say that Linux Mint is better for beginners than Zorin Os. That's all.
EDIT: and if you're not a beginner, Linux Mint is still better, so Zorin Os isn't good for anything really.
Know what linux I started with? Kali. Big mistake.
ОтветитьI chose Xfce, everything suits me!
ОтветитьI don't use Mint, I use EndeavourOS but I do use the XFCE/XFWM4 DE/WM. I am very happy with them so far. Super light and easy to use. It lets me set my desktop up how I want it, allows me to set my own keybindings for tiling. If you want to use tiling, you can. If you don't, you don't have to. You can make it whatever you want which I appreciate.
ОтветитьGnome 2 was the best ever. Any desktop that does not by default clearly shows a difference between window in focus and windows not in fucus is broken design.
ОтветитьMight try Linux again when windows 10 support ends but last time I tried Linux, I didn't like it. The other issue I have is how to replace Visual Studio. I haven't seen anything for Linux that comes close.
Ответитьvery nice, going with xfce simply because it's going on an ancient machine and retro is for the feel.
otherwise cinnamon looks great, I might upgrade to it from win10, I just downgraded to windows 10 from windows 7 finally, it's awful!
I'd go fo cinnamon. It looks really cool. I have also used XFCE on old hardware but now I use MX instead.
ОтветитьWhat is the minimum hardware for Linux Mint Cinnamon ?
ОтветитьPeople don’t remove applications from Windows once installed ?? That makes no sense.
ОтветитьFunny thing is these are the 3 DEs I tend to use everywhere. Even on Arch.
ОтветитьMy main pc I run windows but on my laptop I really love Linux Mint Cinnamon. I’ve tried a few and just didn’t click with them always came back to Mint. Wife uses Macs so I’m always hopping all over the different machines for various reasons. I like being familiar with all of them to be honest.
