How to 𝑨𝑪𝑻𝑼𝑨𝑳𝑳𝒀 Use Firearms - Project Zomboid [pre 41.73, strats still applicable]

If you didn't catch the title, this video is pre 41.73+. Big adjustments have been made to firearms, making some stats and tips in this video old. The strategy, however, is still viable.

Here's a list of changes (I'll cover in a future vid too):

Firearms are now close range centric.
- They now get crit boosts the CLOSER a target is (it was reversed).
- Raw damage is now flat at all ranges (used to increase at longer ranges).
- The M14 is reworked and is now a viable large caliber rifle (used to have no crit boosts on level up)
- These changes also unintentionally nerfed range increasing attachments.

You can no longer AFK grind the Nimble stat. The game now checks to see if you've moved position before awarding XP.

Your character now becomes fatigued and, therefore, tired more easily (see Retanaru's video covering this, it temperature based).

I'll update this list as I remember/find more changes.

I hope they add bows and craft able arrows with the hunting in build 42 so we can level with less risk or just with more renewable ammo

I might even build a small refuge just for leveling this. Like a higher level of a building with the stairs knocked out. Just make sure you have enough to kill all the zombies, and live there for a day or two incase the worst happens

Just saved a playthrough by going against almost all of these rules, replying on some guns from a police roadblock after my car broke down in the middle of nowhere and I was ridiculously tired...

Late, but question. I get the concept of don’t shit where you eat. But, is it not smart to initially open fire in and around your base, so you can kill every zombie within the blast radius?

Typically, my friend and I go loud whenever we first claim a base, we deal with everything that comes in, and we know it’s clear for awhile.

We also have never truly faced a horde. We have been able to handle every Helo event, or small crowds, but we always end up dying to simple mistakes with a fully stacked bases left behind. We have yet to be rolled up on by a horde, and I don’t know the odds of it happening.

Would it not then be smart to routinely fire and kill all that approach? Just waiting for the day that the horde we didn’t notice a few blocks down heard it?

from all of the things I learned, this guide is only common sense to me but I think it'd be perfect basic training for those who don't know what they're doing
one really good method you should try teaching is what I hopefully remember correctly as the 'bottleneck tactic' which is where you try to gather most or if not all of the combatants into a column or hallway and mow them down with either a shotgun or something fully automatic

Good tip, get veteran on your job, you get better aiming and reload speed. All other are easy to learn, but dying from a dumbass zombie that could have been taken out by 2 shots is bad. My friend took Welder job, and he literally died from a zombie that he had on one shot and missed with a shotgun cuz he had level 0 aiming...

Another tip: If you're going to train near somewhere with a long strip of short fences (Like the farms to the west of Rosewood), zombies are incredibly easy to shoot when they climb over and faceplant onto the ground, just hold down the alt key while aiming to target them

Know that you get a damage buff with guns in schools

got the game couple of days ago and me and my friend were driving in the middle of nowhere when we saw 2 police cars so we decided to stop we killed a few of them then more and more came so we got in the car but the car didnt work so we started running for the woods my friend got another car picked me up then ran in to a pole and wrecked it then we started running again trying to find a place to break wich we did then after we had rested and eaten we got into another car got home with me 5 bites him 3 bites so we just sat down healing for the next 3 hours then someone started breaking the door so i went to deal with it but got another bite then my friend came we dealt with it then right after i got up the stairs again i just dropped dead

I kept dying whenever i used guns unless i was on the field far from city so after so many tries i wanted to try to be terminator,got mod that expands vanilla weapons for diversity which also affected spawn rate cause of more types,then found mod for delta force trait which gives 9 strenght and aiming,8 fitness and reloading for 10 points,so now when i started first i cleared dozen houses with melee weapons then when i had enough 9 mill and shotgun ammo with glock and shotgun with exstended mag i start blasting,took me whole in game day to clear area ,they just kept coming,in the end i killed over 600 zombies in 1 day which would be impossible in normal run

"Don't train near your base" isn't actually that bad of an idea, depending on where your base is. If it's in central Louisville and there are 100s of Zombies within hearing range, then of course you shouldn't. However, if your base is in a relatively safe location, firing your gun and attracting Zombies is a decent way of ensuring you won't get snuck up on by some Zombie hiding behind a tree right next to your base.

The more perks mod with brita’s weapon pack makes guns 100x better. The terminator perk with an m60 is a horde clearer

My main issue with firearms is the fact that it is stupidly hard to get the m16 assault rifle, but it is extremely garbage, jamming every 10 rounds, missing half the time even with high level aiming and practically falling apart after shooting a few magazines

In my experience with a car, a target area to either make a WAR ZONE for a week or so/target building (mall etc) and at least 100-200 ammunition you can make wonders happen.
It wont be cleared any time soon. But keeping your head on a swivel, your car close by or at least somewhat accesable through the tides and you shouod be a o k to go guns blazing.. just not right on top of your base/ anywhere else you havent otherwise cleared fully and NEED to be relatively safe. Cause if you cannot kill HUNDREDS at a time you will have to leave and come back to finnish the job in that area later.

The makers of the game love to brag that PZ is the most realistic zombie outbreak survival game, yeah because I could imagine zombies spawning in an already cleared building.

9 times out of ten modded or vanilla, I use nothing but revolvers when it comes to guns, you can drive while shooting, and barely care about having to aim for the head for a one bullet kill, plus less weight and less tedious reloading. Other than revolvers any pistol at 9x19 or 45 apc is fine because of how frequent those ammo will be found, for dealing with hordes tho any non-magazine using rifles, or non magazine using shotguns with more than 5 shell cap performs really well, the only magazine based firearms worth using in my opinion are: for vanilla - 1911 pistol, M16 AR, M14 Rifle, and from Brita - Taurus, M60, Colt 1911.

I don't think the "nimble walk against a wall" thing works anymore. Otherwise solid tips.
