How to Update your Uconnect 8.4 System

yea bull shit my 2018 dodge journey uconnect doesnt even work correctly cant even use any apps from the phone im using and diff ones to see if it may of been the phone after 3 nope nothing and uconnect menu dosent even show up!!!!!!!! doesnt even have the update to get the nav so much bs , and i go to the site this is what i get

How to download image without VIN? Cannot reinstall corrupted system by myself because with use of VIN I have everything up to date....

Where's the link to just download the last update? I reset my radio and need to re-install the update from ages ago, but because I did it once with this Uconnect VIN checking website it says it's already done. I need to re-download the file and can't get it.

I have a 2015 challenger Scatpack, the update fixes the issue where Engine stuck on “street” mode only. After firmware updated, I am now able to set engine to Sport. Hope this helps.

I did this & it worked great but now I have to recalibrate my navigation. It tells me to find a main road with open sky but it's not working. Now I'm curious what else doesn't work in my truck. I will have to run a test of all the buttons & see.

I tried this multiple times with two different computers. An HP and an Apple. Both times, after typing in my VIN and clicking "search for updates" everything froze and no updates popped up. So this is garbage. I will NEVER buy another Chrysler. I've gotten nothing but garbage customer service from EVERY dealership I've been to (in multiple states), lackluster communication (if any), and the last dealership left my car absolutely FILTHY when it was returned to me (in Texas). Now, after being told by a dealer in Florida, California, AND Texas that I need to call Garmin for map updates, I find this video online that says I can do the updates MYSELF. Of course, then it doesn't even work. No wonder so many Americans are turning to foreign car manufacturers.

My Jeep has failed 4 times now at 14 of 15 at the hd update. Am I out of a radio now?

This worked:
1. download the archive to laptop
2. open the archive and put the files - uncompressed - on a 2G flash drive formatted as FAT
3. do not insert the flash into car yet
4. start the car. Wait until fully booted up
5. now insert the flash drive
6. wait. It take a long-ish time for the system to verify the files

this was easy. I upgraded my radio so I had to use a VIN associated w/ the same radio part number. snagged from an ebay ad description w/ the same radio part number that included the donor vehicle's VIN. The hardest parts were finding the right VIN (look *carefully*) and waiting for the upload to finish. It will give you instructions onscreen the whole way. It will tell you when you finish. Once the upgrade is successful and it says you can take out the USB- take it out!! but only when it says you can. also, keep the motor running in a safe place AND don't go anywhere. If you didn't change radios (it's original) then of course you just use your own VIN. cheers.

So I have a 2022 Jeep Gran Cherokee WK and when I placed my VIN in the box, the search ran and then stopped but said nothing about any updates or any response of the status of my U-Connect 8.4" 4C Nav system... What does that even mean? Am I supposed to guess that it's up to date? BTW, the FCA Toolbox app I installed on my PC said to connect the USB drive that I had used to "synchronize the system’s navigation data with the USB flash drive". However, after I connected that USB drive to the PC, (per the FCA TB instructions), nothing happened... One more thing; I've noticed that none of the webpages I've been to in the U-connect, U-C drive, Mopar, etc., offer the US as one of the choices to select in updating the maps manually. I'm sure there's something I'm doing wrong so I've got to keep searching.

My radio is rebooting every three minutes, while connected to Bluetooth. I want to update it as I've read it might solve the problem, but when entering VIN number it loads and then nothing happens. Do you have any direct link for the latest update to a FIAT 500L Living 2016?

They have completely abandoned Uconnect on the 12" for the RAM 1500's, still running 20.04.19...No security updates, feature updates, performance, etc... Think of that before you look to get into the newer ever more "feature Rich" versions of Uconnect, they cant properly support the products.

Just a friendly suggestion. Why not do software downloads for customers and mail them out. Some people may not be computer savvy. May save some aggravation. When you only do something once in a while it could be difficult.

Easy and simple download on a empty USB drive-> extract files on to desktop-> put the extracted files to USB-> turn car on-> put USB in the USB hub-> wait to verify-> and drink a beer-> and done

Please don't DO THIS yourself. Go to dealer. I spoiled my entire weekend with an array of errors thanks to this buggy update process. Uconnect really needs to improve the stability of this install. This put my car's battery at risk of draining out.

Had a bad experience with usb errors & infinite loops, and how I overcame. Hope it helps someone, feels so lonely sometimes being a Chrysler owner.

Short answer: Try with a flash drive that is 32GB or less, and format it under FAT32 file system on a Mac. Download the update directly into the flash drive and unzip right there. If this does not work, repeat the same with a different flash drive (a newer one).

Long answer/long story - Here is what I went thro:

I started trying with a 2TB Hard drive, as I had no more USBs left. The car read the drive and started the install process. Total 15 units, and after completing 2 units, encountered the dreadful "please insert usb flash drive" error and started rebooting and began all over again. An hour went by looping again and again, and I decided to buy a new flash drive at the corner store. I picked up a new 64GB USB 3.1 and loaded all the files. When I swapped the new USB drive, there was zero reaction from UConnect. That duh moment, man! It just did not recognize this flash drive at all. I did more research and realized I must reformat it with the older file system of FAT32. On my windows 10 laptop the only format available was NTFS and exFAT, but no FAT32 option. More research reveals I need a flash drive with 32GB or less capacity to format it under FAT32. Already bought 64GB so did more research on formatting it to FAT32. I installed a free 3rd party software called Rufus and that allowed me to format it to FAT32 but the capacity was maxed out to just 32GB, which is fine. This Uconnect update file is just 1GB. After plugging in this same flash drive back, it worked like a charm. It was the file system after all. This time it ran the updates way faster and completed like 10 Units in just 10 minutes.


All looked promising but at unit 11: Embedded Air Card, completing 67% another brutal error came up as below:
"Sierra wireless: bolo file install failed"


This one is even more deadly with 1000s of others published on forums about being stuck at this step. My entire day has gone by trying different things, and I had given up. My focus then shifts to not having my battery drain out because even if we turn off the car, the update process continues running. I tried a few different things others suggested like "Directly extract the zip file inside the flash drive", and "try unchecking the 'Quick Fomat' checkbox when formatting the drive", but no luck. 8 hours had gone by and I had one last attempt - to use my Mac instead of Windows. This wasn't recommended anywhere, but I tried.

I used the Disk Utility application on Mac and formatted it under "FAT 32 - MS Dos" file system, downloaded the files directly into the flash drive, and unzipped it right there.

Plugged this thing in and went to sleep, and it looked like it was still running next morning but 10 minutes later I did a second check-in, and I got the "Uconnect successfully updated" message finally, was so much relieved.



I do this type of troubleshooting as part of my day job in the software area. Starting with an unknown problem and figuring it out is what I do for a living but come on Uconnect, how can you guys have such a brutal and unpredictable update process and expect normal people to self-install this crap? It ruined my entire weekend. We should be able to install it with any usb version or file format, or otherwise don't advertise that this will take only 25 minutes of my time. It was more like 12-14 hours of struggle.

- If there is a certain version or file format that the system expects us to provide, then mention that in the installation instructions and we will follow it.
- Also the update first checks the integrity of the iso image early in the process but if the flash drive continues to fail and loop endlessly after that, I am not sure what integrity you are checking.
- This cannot drain my battery out by endlessly running. There should be a way for me to revert back to my previous version, until I can get help from dealership.

This is bullshit! I have a 18 Journey with Uconnect 3 8.4 and was told by Dodge that they weren't going to be pushing updates anymore to that version of Uconnect. I will never buy another vehicle with Uconnect installed. Just to say that the Journey was never really updated in its lifetime. Same vehicle every year. Uconnect 3 is a TERRIBLE system.

What's the latest released version for Uconnect 4C NAV with 8.4" display?

Unconnect would connect to my new phone. Updated. Now it connects phone but not media and even the aux will not work and radio keeps shutting off. This experience makes want to shoot my radio like Harvey Keitel in the Bad Lieutenant.

Long shot but i upgraded to an 8.4 uconnect from the small stock one on my ram, i know the 8.4 i have now needs an update but obviously when i use my vin it tells me no update
