WORKER GETS KILLED BY FORKLIFT

I used to work at a company that was like 50% blind for years. If we need to go do a re-ship, we would go into the warehouse yell coming through and run. It wasn’t until two years later when I nearly got killed one day crying to cross with my guide dog who pulled me out of the way did I find out that the people in the warehouse had headphones they couldn’t hear us, they had no idea we were there and we didn’t know they were there. I came very close to being smooshed that day and they blame me. I’m like how was I supposed to know this is what it was done for the years. I still can’t believe how many people escape death that day.

I drive a 18 wheeler flatbed steel hauler and from time always pay attention and never be afraid to say no... had a fd tell me to get on my trailer as he loaded a 53,**.* lb coil told him no way ... next day saw a crane fail with a man on the trailer... coil was under a ft. away from making contact when the craned failed and the coil fell. broke the trailer in half and the driver sild towards the middle. driver panic and hurt his knee trying to crawl up because he thought the coil was going to roll on him... lucky he was ok and had minor injuries... can't stress enough to always be attentive which means no phones... for you younger pl. and always communication if possible with the loader at all times. equipment can be replaced but you can't.

The man was taken to hospital and is on a great recovery

The worker was never in the line of sight of the forklift driver. Must have been horrible to realise what happened after the sound.

In a situation like this when your view is obstructed sometimes driving in reverse is a viable option but you need to be vigilant with your horn and surroundings.

Guy on forklift should’ve reversed with the pallets cause it look like the can’t really see the front or atleast lift the pallet high so he can see what’s in front of him lol

You work on any dock where massive weight forklifts are operating, everyone KNOWS it's you're responsibility to watch where you are and always position yourself in a place of greatesgt safety. Don't care how fast this guy was driving or what miscommunication there might have been, this guy "fell asleep standing" in a position of extreme vulnerability. It's a crying shame, for him, his loved ones, and for the driver of the fork who was probably permanently damaged by the experience. RIP.

This is why u just be standing where the fork driver can see u at all times

I don't drive a tow motor but at work, it's mandatory for all drivers to honk all the time.

When he turned the load, he should have waited until he saw him. You just don't load the truck, not knowing where he is. Just sad both ways. The guy who passed away trusted the forklift driver too much.

Sadly, companies cause accidents like this cus they expect workers to work at a high pace for hours and hours cus all that matter to these big companies is money. In my town where I live, a company was operating unsafe injection molding machines, and a woman was crushed to death a few months ago (company was pentair pool/sanford nc), they simply paid a fine and are back in business, it’s disgusting what these big corporations get away with

When you are forking tall loads that obstruct your forward vision, you must drive in reverse instead. That guy couldn't see a single thing in front of him. He was effectively driving blind.

Never ever leave your cab during a loading unless instructed to by a forklift driver, arrive at location, notify them or arrival and wait safely in your cab

I am a forklift driver, the smallest truck I have seen on a counterbalance is 2.5 TONNE, the heaviest I have driven is a 16 tonne and depending on which brand and model the truck is depends on how much visibility you have without even going into whether it's an open/closed cab, etc

To all the forklift operators reading this.....please use your horn. I rather have you over use it than fly around not using it or rarely use it.

I work in a factory and look both ways typically but some new works don't. I've yelled at a few who walked in the path of a not to distant forklift who wasn't using there horn either.

Yes the others should look but ultimately you are behind the wheel and you have to be able to sleep with any consequences.

Usually it's the experienced forklift driver who don't use the horn much. Please do for everyone's sake.
