Mini Mill Gear Replacement - New Metal Gears for the Mini Milling Machine!

i just upgraded mine to steel gears it a bit noisy

press the bearing from the outer ring not the inner one. you can damage the bearing pressing it from the inner one

My gears just went today flycutting aluminium so I'm going to have to replace them so thank you for the video.

I was wondering if you where going to put a little grease on those new gears ⚙️

i see everyone switching to belts over the gears, im lucky enough that i can make the plastic gears with 3d printers but ive seen the metal gears an ive been tempted to buy them but havent cause i had always wanted to go with the belt cause everyone suggest it over the gears cause the belts isn't as loud while the plastic gears noise have never bothered me i could see the metal ones being quite a bit noiser an with where i have my mill its not in a garage or shop, i have it an my lathe both in a bed room along with all my 3d printers so i try to keep the noise tto a minimum if i can, the mill has never given me issues with its noise an everyone else in the house says they barely know when im using it but the lathe on the other hand they do notice but are not bothered by it so id like to keep the mill in the same position, id like to be able to run it late at night like i do now without it bothering those who are sleeping so the belt has always been what i had planned on but its so much cheaper to go with the metal gears an id like to get them just so i dont have to worry about replacing them anytime i end up screwing up, im new to this some i happens. can u say how much more noisy the metal gears make over the plastic. i know it wasnt running in the beginning of the video but i assume u have used them an know how they sound with the plastic gears.

Should have replaced those bearings too. With some taper rollers or angular contact. That head stock is almost identical to a mini latte head stock

Questions: 1) how much force was needed on the hydraulic press, and 2) the brand of grease for the gears?

Note that I’ve had the machine since 2005 or so…

So I ordered all my gears separately to save money which really wasn't much, my concern is on the larger 2 gears the set with the spacer on yours well mine came all 1 piece so I'm concerned it's not going to work. What my concern is the gear dimensions are perfect but because they are all 1 piece the bore is the same inner diameter as the smaller one and my original plastic gears the biggest one has a slightly bigger bore diameter.

Would of liked to hear it run.

I would say, someone either jammed the cutter hard, by a part coming loose or dropping the head while running, or shifting gears while running. Hope none of that happens to me. Cheers
