Bengaluru Rains are nothing compared to rains in Kolkata and Mumbai. They recieve heavy rainfall every year and get waterlogged. However, water receeds in few hours. Moreover, they still rely on that old, dilapidated British drains. But see, Bengaluru though beingba new IT city, floods so fast even if it has rains than one of the major cities in the country. Sometimes I am compelled to think that present politicians are more corrupt than Britishers

Because of their fraud politicians. They loot Bangalore’s wealth and built unplanned constructions. No proper drainage system

Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink
Bangalore in the recent torrent of rain did sink
Once, a garden city, this city has begun to stink
The politicians without remorse away did slink.

The Rajakaluves that did drain the city’s rainwater
Their encroachment has caused a terrible disaster
While boats sail on the rivers and ships sail on the seas
Bangalore with boats on the rainwater looked like Venice

A stitch in time will save nine, it was once wisely said
Procrastination is the thief of time is a saying widely spread
That this disaster will soon be upon us, we had been forewarned
Like the soothsayer’s warning on the Ides of March, this warning was scorned

Hush, in the Tower of Babel, that Bangalore has now become
With each one loudly blaming the other, wonder what will be the outcome
A solution carefully thought out, and diligently should be found
A solution free from bigotry and ego if we can with dedication look around.

Bangalore was and will continue to be our country’s garden city
With parks and gardens filled with flowers, its citizens living placidly
It should become a Pensioners’ Paradise once again
Where culturally the East has met the West, an oft repeated refrain.

JAYASHEKAR GANAPATHY

Old Bangalore is on a ridge with layers , as you come towards the outer Bangalore , where the IT parks are constructed , it's relatively low and flat .
All the rains that falls in old Bangalore , because of the concretization of the central city and BDA themselves filling up lakes developing BDA layouts like JP nagar , Rajaji nagar , Domlur , Majestic Busstand, Kanteerva stadium etc , rain water from central Bangalore too comes through the HC valley and connects with KC valley which is the outer Bangalore , Bellandur, Varathur area .
Added to this BBMP giving permission to tech parks and apartments structures to be built on outer Bangalore again on lakes and blocking the drains .

Old Bangalore is on a ridge , so water will flow fast to outer Bangalore , even though many lakes are filled for projects.
Outer Bangalore is flat and low lying , lakes are encroached and drains are blocked...
Water will be on roads!!!!

Water from KC valley finally reached Dakshina pinakani river and causing even the near by village Mugalur to be flooded , where there is no development .

Great explanation on the physical structure issue. However just to add another perspective, This is just irresponsible statements from representatives and bureaucrats of Vidhan Soudha.

Who is responsible for the enforcement of the law ? Who is responsible for giving building permission ? Who is responsible for approving occupation certificate ? These elected representatives just pass the buck and say they have encroached ! Wat are you doing as an elected representative man ? Go inspect and demolish ! This whole city is under your control and run by you. Government has to take responsibility for governing they can’t sit back and take pot shots at everyone else when their own govt is corrupted

Clouds are gone, and so is the urgency. Felt happy to hear the words like “Merciless” from the government to remove the encroachments against the lakes & canals which were mainly responsible for the inundation of many housing societies and main roads in the IT sector.

Please note that I’m not against Karnataka or Bangalore which has given us many opportunities for us to grow and survive. I’m against the government authorities like BBMP, BWSWB, and Minor Irrigation Departments which are playing the musical chairs game and not even moving an inch in removing the encroachments even after this biggest disaster. I’ve not heard of a single encroachment which is removed even after this big rain and again waiting for the next biggest disaster to happen. It's easy to blame the homeowner who bought the home 1Km away from the canal, but we shall leave the land mafia who encroached on the lake or canal and are responsible for the same home flooding.

We shall bulldoze the buildings at a day’s notice saying criminal records, but we keep silent on these lake encroachments which happened around the lakes in Bangalore even after this biggest disaster. Why these Double Standards in a Double Engine Government? It's time to act and publish the list of encroachments and remove them within 100 days, or Else we shall be in the news again for the wrong reasons.

Sir, if talking about rain simple logic nobody looking in to , I will put mathematics for 3 km*3 km both side of valley zone center of that rajakaluve pass for 30' wide 10 ft deep kaluve should take discharge of 5000 to 1000 acre of rain at the rate of heavy rain 24 cm max its takes 24 hours to clear the water at the speed flow of 10 km per hour
To reduce the the time should make it 90' by 20' kaluve all lake to lake conection through out Bangalore
But what I notice only fifteen by 10 ' kaluve they are making now i inside recently done up lake rejuvenation work I am talking about only 3*3 km but hebbal , vishwabarathi and belandur should consider 5 times of that discharge to avoid water logging

Why the hell should all companies have to set up their facility in the same city...and the industry knows very well the most skilled resources are not natively belong to this city.
It is sheer herd mentality and resources also flocking from all corners of our country.
It was a trend in 1980 when the industry was in infant stage...companies were setting up their offices in Bangalore to make the customer feel pleasant. Now the condition is not necessarily to be so, when the whole world has successfully crossed two calendar years smoothly by encouraging Work From Home, Why should the public suffer by crowding at one place unnecessarily and traveling hours to reach the office and return home?
It is the time to rethink and take decisions to allow the resources to work from home.
We should understand these natural disasters are going to be part of everyone's life and ofcourse our government is not going to do the governance to mitigate the risk of overcoming such critical situations.
Of course industries mostly concentrate in one place because of availability of raw materials, and access to other nfrastructure  like ports, etc...but IT industry need not undergo any such specific requirements unless the resources stay connected thru internet.
This calamity in Bangalore is very good lesson to all employers because the Bangalore was a pleasant experience once upon a time, but after occupying 220 square kms around the original Bangalore city, we have ripped all the pleasure and left with concrete jungles replacing the farm land and agriculture.
When the leaders like Infy, TCS,WIPRO, IBM and ACCENTURE, take good decision the others will also follow if it is a mutually a good decision  for employees as well as employers.
Let's do our part to minimize carbon emissions by avoiding never ending traffic in IRRs, ORRs and all ITcorridors.

Due to increasing population , development and encroachment each year Bengaluru is extremely susceptible to flooding , the highway acts as a dam for water and Bengaluru's drainage infrastructure is unprepared to handle unexpectedly severe rainfall , so the government should solve this issue. 🙏

True Bangalore received high rainfall . What next to be done . Govt should share Rajakalvue ( flow of water to lakes) origin to understand who all did the devation while construction. Majorly seen in IT Belt . Try to bring back natural way and design streams ecologically.

Think deeply outsiders..... Yes you MOHAJIRS.
.
Had the govt of your hometown, home state......taken adequate care of your cities, then you would be working there not here. So blame your inefficient govt and not karnataka govt.
.
Bangalore has at least 30 lakh people from Bihar bengal, Up, assam, mizoram, tripura, nagaland, arunanchal pradesh.
.
Add another 60 Lakh population from Telangana, Andhrapradesh, Tamilnadu, Kerala.
.
Then another 30 Lakh Gujjus, Marwadis, Maharashtrians, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi guys.
.
So out of 1.5-2.0 crore population of Bangalore, actually Kannadigas are less than 20%. Now out of that sma population, 70% of them are the original settlers like me who were born here and have heritage since centuries.
.
Out of the people from other states pouring into Bangalore, actually 90% of them are low grade, classless blue collar, mazdoor kind of people. Not white collared people like us. Though it seems they work in MNC, IT Companies but actually when we go deeper they are classless, mannerless and Sameless people.
.
All because their inefficient govt, these hopeless fit for nothing people come to destroy Bangalore as if in the world only Bangalore is the place where they can live.
.
If they really meant that they loved your soil then they should have left Bangalore and develop their places, not blame our place. We did not go to their house and called them. They came to live here.
.
I am a IT Engineer and working in a very big MNC.
If I want I can go anywhere in the world be it US, AUSTRALIA, CANADA, EUROPE, UK, MIDDLE EAST CHINA, JAPAN...Anywhere. I have 20 years of professional experience. But I will stay where I was born and that is Bangalore. I love my soil.
.
But outsiders here don't love their soil. That is why they live in Bangalore as liability yo us.
.
I don't want to be a outsider in other places. I don't want to live shamelessly in other places. But these people live like that. Yes... S h a m e l e s s.
.
These Shsmeless guys want to live here licking Bangalore soil for 2 times food.
