Hi Dikko, I'm at the point where I am remeshing the eyelids to the head and my computer is not liking it. I have a RTX 3080 which should be strong enough to do this. We are a while away from the rigging to be ready for animation, what is the solution for this? The remesh I'm using a digit less then 001m, still slow. What is the solution to this? Thank you, I really apprecate it.

Time blocked out 6 hours for this, ended up spending 3 days TT half because of all the learning, but half also because wow sculpting is fun!

I was planning on making the character in my pfp when I started this whole thing, and I've gotten through all the steps to this point without too much difficulty. But after watching through this whole video... I feel stuck, particularly at the very beginning.

I don't know how to continue along when this character has a dog and a long snout that just pulling from the round cube will help with. Do I need to use another shape too to block out this head?

I've tried looking around for other videos about furry heads but at the end of the day, I feel like I need advice on how to do it from the actual tutorial otherwise I might mess up further down the road...

Trying to figure out the eyelashes is kind of a pain to me, even going frame by frame in the video isn't helping me understand the steps.

i'm finding this series to be really helpful so far, however some of the techniques used are giving me trouble

as of the moment i'm having issues with remeshing and smooth sculpting the model, every time i remesh and get it to look like the blocking, it lags my pc and it's edges are so plentiful it looks like it's been painted black and the smoothing itself isn't working well with it, half of the time it looks like the mesh is getting cut into slices

do you have any advice on how i should deal with this or a way i can circumvent it and still be able to continue following the series?

First of all, thank you for making these tutorials, they were a tremendous help when I first started out sculpting! I tried following along about a year ago but gave up after this part, I just couldn’t figure out how to get it smooth and nice looking. Also retopo seemed way too intimidating. now a week ago I got into sculpting again and rewatching this, I finally understand the process and workflow and the thoughts behind it. It’s all just a matter of practice, practice, practice. And using reference. And realizing some stuff really does turn out better by accident sometimes haha! Now I can’t wait to continue your tutorials and finish my character this time!

So question how would you go about making a sculpt in nomad sculpt or zbrush that you can now animation in blender?

I agree that specialization is important but as someone from an Industrial design background my training was every part of the process. Research, designing products, includes sketching, marker rendering, model making ( build prototypes out of the best material to get it down quickly, whether it be sheet metal, vacuum forming, wood, plastics, clay, painting.) 3d modellihg and rendering. The digital painting learned on my own since it was relatively new. That helped understanding every part of the process. I have used the same method learning anatomy, drawing the muscles, studies from life drawing, restaurants, waiting in line, etc. Sculpting them roughly in clay, now I just got into digital sculpting. When you draw, render and model a subject it forces you to fully understand it. Now I want to understand how to make models I can animate (I taught myself some 2d animation over the past few years. I should note that this isn't a days thing. This is years, decades of work. It's key to spend time focusing on an area until you are great at it before moving unto another. How I started out, drawing pencil and colored pencil from I was a child to college, so I had put in the time to get good at drawing, also had wood working classes in highschool so by the time I started ID in college I was proficient enough to take on something new.

It seems like my smooth brush is about 5% as effective as whats in the video. The section when he added clay strips to the forehead he was able to smooth it in about 3 strokes. It took me about 5 minutes of smoothing to accomplish the same thing. Anyone know why this might be? (My strength is set to 1.000 when doing the smoothing)

Edit - Restarted Blender and it seems a little better, still not great. I can at least resume working on what looks like the alien from "Mac and Me"

Just in case anyone else is a huge dummy like me. If the ambient occlusion color ramp combo seems to only be adding the last of the two colors you have to make sure ambient occlusion is checked in your render properties. This took me a whole night and one melt down/rage quit to figure out.

Is there a particular reason that you switch to the smooth brush constantly rather than holding down shift and left clicking to smooth out?

This far into the series and I just learned how to use proportional editing! Proof that even complete beginners can pick up and use blender. All this time I was like "how does he move so many verts if he only has one selected?" I'm really dumb lol

How would I go about making ears with gages in them when I get to part where you're finishing the ears?

EDIT:
Not sure if this will work but I boolean'd a cylinder in the ear so there's a hole. I don't think I'll need to work on the gage hole since I'll most likely just duplicate the inside, flip normals, and use that as the exterior to the gages.

Sorry if there's any bad English.

I'm trying to follow the steps around 12-14 minutes, and having a ton of trouble. I thought I followed everything - even using the empties - but when I go to apply the mirror modifier, it no longer mirrors. I don't understand what I did wrong.
