The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Patch 4.02 - The Best It's Ever Been - PS5 vs Xbox Series X/S

CDPR really do put tremendous effort into their games no matter how old they are. I wish other western devs would put as much effort into making sure that their catalogue of older titles played well on modern platforms. Even with that god awful launch of cyberpunk they’re still the gold standard of video game devs in my eyes.

I just got it on Xbox realizing I can do cross progression..ps5 has better graphics but runs alittle slower and drops frames a little but not really noticeable and series x run very smooth and I think even has better load times buy literally just a milli second but kinda looks cartoonish a bit.. doesn't really matter I just loved the game and wanted it to have on quick resume.

Pro tip for all the console peasants, the only proper way to play Witcher 3 is PC.

RT is so pointless here, 60 FPS -> sub 30 FPS for negligible visual gains. Ridiculous.

Yet, swimming is still a waking nightmare and drowners fail to succumb to pheromones. Those sea bound Skellige question marks will have to stay undiscovered for now.

what resolution was this used on? what if my monitor is 165hz 1080p, will it lock to 60 on performance mode?

Best looking performance so far, on PlayStation, only when not inside of conversation cutscenes where the characters look like they are constantly blurring like the scene is being aggressively resolution scaled or some shit. And as long as your not in Toussaint where the clouds constantly flicker. Neither issue is present on Xbox so little weird they still haven’t fixed it. For me it is unplayable on ps5, too immersion breaking in an immersive rpg.

So i still haven't tried playing an updated ps4 game on ps5. Do you have to pay for the upgrade and if so will just playing the game normally still see some improvement in frame rate over the ps4 for games that haven't gotten an upgrade?

I paid $25 for the GoTY edition of Witcher 3 back in 2016. I never played a Witcher game but heard great things for part 3. 7 years later i just now got a series X and am still on my very first playthrough for Witcher 3 with almost 300 hours put into it. Ive gone a year or two without playing it and just slowrolled it but the game is amazing and one of the best games ive ever played in my 35 years of gaming as im 40+ years old and have been gaming since the nes came out. The load times are so much faster on new gen and the game does play a little smoother. Ill probably end up putting in over 500 hours with the DLC for this great game. Very satisfied with my series X so far.

I just bought a physical copy for my PS5 playing it for the 1st time ever tonight!

Man now I can play as Henry Cavill (witcher) in ps5 sad he is leaving witcher nf but he is right writing of witcher nf is bad

So I have only ever played about half an hour of Witcher 3 - got a week off.

So going to finally play it on the series X

I can’t even play the game! I have a series x and the game crashes over and over for me. I didn’t have this problem before the next gen update. I’ve deleted the game and redownloaded it 3 times and still it crashes. Anyone know how to fix this?!

The grass is so bad now, all blurry and without interaction on PS5. The water is still not as good as it is on PC. I hope they will fix that in 4.04

Is it just me or has the draw distance on XSX been getting reduced since 4.01? I feel like I’m seeing flickering and lower distant object detail where there was none before. Someone give me a sanity check.

When the original update came out... I was beyond angry. Either they should have released it with a "Beta" disclaimer, or held off and fixed it before releasing. Currently on my 3700x and 2070 Super I can finally play 4k 60fps locked and no stutter. RT off with a mix of High/Ultra/Ultra+ settings, DLSS performance, and Hairworks off. At launch, it was broken for midrange and lower hardware, no matter the resolution, graphics settings, or DLSS usage. I'm still glad to see it get better, no matter how angry I was/am. But after temporarily destroying a game I paid for multiple times, I'm still ill about it. Just less ill. But I'm from an era where games released finished. This is essentially a re-release, and should have been treated like one. The "Just fix it in post" practice among devs/publishers needs to stop. Forgive, but don't forget. PS: At release there were a lot of PC hardware elitists with more money than sense, telling me that "obviously" my hardware was to blame. Well, whatta ya know? Look at me now.

Just get going on The Witcher 4. Wasting damn time.

Tbh I was well excited over the re release but I was really disappointed I had to choose between frame rate and ray trac tracing I was hoping to get both so ovvs I'm playing on performance but it don't look much better than ps4 and I can't play with Ray tracing with it being laggy

Trying so hard just to match 60fps like on pc lol. It’s a console it will never be as good as $1200 graphics card.

Im really disappointed with the fps on the ps5 with ray tracing image having as low as 24 fps it's basically unplayable at this this point but the game runs amazing on ps5 with no ray tracing im really impressed with the Xbox series X with ray tracing keeping that 30fps but honestly I'd even be extremely happy with 40fps for both consoles so it doesn't go below 30fps

4.02 fixed some issues but also caused some issues, look into that when you can.

A Nvidia sponsored title could be the most broken game ever and Digital Foundry would still shill the hell out of it while ignoring the VRAM issues with frame gen and RT. Brand new 4070 GPU and 12 gb isn't enough for DLSS 1440p on this title if RT and frame gen are on. Non stop crashes on 4.2 In 4.1 performance would sh@% the bed after a hour of play, less if you fast travel. Thanks for stealing peoples hard earned money Nvidia and Digital Foundry.

What baffles me is how is it possible that developers doesnt have the tools to see the game runs like shit when they drop the patch? I mean you can just play it to see it runs like shit.

when ray tracing is lagging and you have an tv who has vrr, just activate force vrr for all games in the ps5 settings and it runs very good i have the samsung qn85a (for ps5 version)

Cdpr is the master at making their game unoptimized so that the playsers have to spend money to buy new gpus

I remember a few months before this update was launched, I tried a go on my Ps5, and right off the bat felt sluggish fighting the ghouls right at the early start of the game with Vesemir. Felt like something was off with the FPS. I played a bit and stopped, felt weird on the Ps5.
Then I heard about this update and decided to give a go, and boy, the difference, I believe even the gameplay has changed, literally everything feels way smoother and more fluid, also the graphics are looking way better. It used to crispy, now everything looks more polished. They did a great service for the last gen, and all for free. Amazing work.

I just bought a ps5 and was glad to find out PS Store upgrades many ps4 games (Cd version only) to ps5 version for FREE! .

I'm not very satisfied with this level of performance though. 60fps locked with Ray tracing and 120fps without it would be something but I guess that's a dream that's only achievable on a good pc

I recommend everyone here watching Neon Knight's video exposing the issues that this exact patch still hasn't fixed covered in this DF video.
The game is nowhere near "fixed" and is still downright unplayable in some situations. CDPR, if you're reading this, please don't make it so that the only way for the Witcher 3 to be the masterpiece it used to be is by reverting to the old versions. If you guys really thought this new edition of the game was needed, make it work. Don't make this Cyberpunk V2

I seriously can’t get over how they’re still continuing to work on this game and come out with new editions and patch updates. 8 years ago was when I first played this game on my PS4, and now I’m playing it on my Series X. The Witcher 3 will probably always be in my top 5 favorite video games.

Well, it certainly is not "the best it has ever been" on PC.
It is more or less the worst it has been for many years on PC: Crashes every other minute, stuttering, low FPS performancewise.
And flickering of shadows and textures in the short moments one can actually play.
On PC patch 4.02 has been a major step backwards.

Using ps4 saves over the ps5 should bear priority. I stunt ever to install the ps5 update to start my trophies all again

Cdpr should fix pc version. Drops down to 120fps on novigrad with rtx4080.

Yeah 40FPS 120Hz would be a good compromis

i have a glitch where my camera rotation speed is bugged to 1 and i can't get it higer.

These videos show that there's always room for improvement in performance. Kudos to CD Project RED for putting the work in and shame on those developers/publishers that never bother to patch improvements in their titles.

I can finally conduct my definitive play through…. I have been waiting for this fix, I appreciate cdpr sticking with it and fixing the mistakes. I still have ptsd from Bethesda next genning fallout 4 4 or so years ago, breaking it on Xbox then dipping. Happy to see cdpr didn’t go that route it speaks positively to the future of that studio.
